How to Breastfeed Baby in Trail Magik Carrier: [Share this with a nursing mom!]
Being able to breastfeed and hike at the same time has been so helpful especially when my toddler is in a rhythm and I don’t want to stop.
After baby is done, I just tighten the strap back up so she’s in the correct position. So quick and easy!
Be sure to check out the trail.magik carrier! This one in particular I collaborated on with them so it’s extra special to me 🥰 Use HaileyOutside10 for 10% off!

Flying to Europe with little kids is no joke 😅 This was a very long day and I definitely have some regrets of how we scheduled things.
For anyone curious why we didn’t fly straight to Belgium, I found decently cheap round trip tickets to Paris and booked them for 2 weeks. We wanted to visit other countries so we decided to take a train to Belgium and do Paris at the end so we wouldn’t have to travel a long ways the day we flew back to the states or just book a single night stay.
It was a ton of traveling though and I think I’d rather just spend a little more to fly directly to wherever we want to stay. But hey, we’re building character, right??
Glad we made it though and Belgium has been a dream so far!

Capitol Reef National Park Family Friendly Hikes [Save this post for later]:
Capital Reef National Parks is one of our favorites! It’s not the most popular, so it’s less crowded and has some really incredible views and rock structures. I find it to have way more kid friendly trails than Zion national park!
Oh, I have a whole YouTube video up about our trip to Capitol reef if you want to check it out!
What to Hike:
Lion’s Head- This trail is not actually in the park, but in Teasdale, which is very close. It also means it’s dog friendly!
Length: 1.9 mi RT
Elevation gain: 132 ft
Rated: Easy
Highlights: The lion’s head is a formation of a bunch of sand stone rocks making it a paradise for kids to scramble and play
Cassidy Arch: This one is in the park, so no dogs. It has some quick elevation gain at the beginning to get up to the top of the canyon.
Length: 3.1 Miles
Elevation gain: 667 ft
Rated: moderate
Highlights: incredible canyon views, really cool back view of Cassidy Arch.
Goosenecks and Sunset Point: These are technically 2 different trails but they both take off from the same parking lot so most people do them together. Goosenecks is more of a lookout that an actual hike. It also has more of an epic view so if you don’t have time for a hike, I highly recommend goosenecks.
Length: 0.8 miles
Elevation gains: (I didn’t track this but it’s not much, maybe 200 ft)
Rated: Easy
Highlights: incredible canyon views
Hickman Bridge: this is an iconic hike so go early if you want to beat the crowds!
Length: 1.7 mi rt
Elevation gain: 416 ft
Rated: moderate
Highlights: wide trails and a really cool arch to walk under
Where to Stay:
cabinsatcapitolreef is my favorite Airbnb I’ve ever stayed. The cabins are beautiful with an incredible view of Capitol reef. They are right next to town for convenience. They have three bedrooms as well as a loft and are so well done. I’ve stayed here twice now and have loved both experiences!

Mountain biking with this girl was a highlight of our camping trip this weekend.
Fruita, Colorado has so many amazing trails and plenty of easy ones which was great for her first rides! I already can’t wait to go back 👏🏼
We are using the macridemore seat which we’ve used for my oldest too. It’s meant for kids to start riding around 2 years old up until 5 years old.
Her little handlebars are from kidsrideshotgun! I love them because they’re small for little hands and they have a rubber lining which is more comfortable than where they hold onto adult handlebars.
I am no expert mountain biker so I’m happy to answer anything I am able to about our set up but if you’re looking for some real info about biking with kids, head over to laurhronek and christian.peper!

3 Things You Should Always Do Before and During Your Backpacking Trip:
My mom went on her first backpacking trip at 10 years old and has been on hundreds of trips since. She and my dad took me on my first backpacking trip when I was 14 and has been my go to resource ever since.
Here are 3 things she taught me to help me feel my best when out backpacking:
1. Trim your toenails before you go: This quick and easy thing will save your feet. You don’t want your toenails hitting the front of your shoe or cutting into your other toes.
2. Start hydrating 3 days before your trip: You likely won’t be drinking enough water while backpacking so making sure you start off hydrated will help keep your body functioning at top condition and from getting sick.
3. Stop and fix a hot spot right away: If you start to feel a sore spot or “hot spot” on your foot from your shoe rubbing, sit down and put a bandaid or moleskin on it. This will reduce the friction and will hopefully stop a blister from forming.
Do you do these things? What’s something you always do to feel better on a backpacking trip?

Camping Breakfast Hack! [Share this with a friend who also loves camping!]
I love using our blender bottle to mix our pancake batter while our camping. The little whisk bottle does a great job breaking up and combining everything. You can add eggs or milk for some extra protein which I love 🙌🏼

Backpacking Trip Fail—We bailed after 6 miles 😭
This trip definitely did not go as expected but I’d take a hard day on the trail over a day in the office every time 👏🏼
Our trip was supposed to be mostly down hill (we started and ended at 2 different points) so we carried extra weight making the hike out more difficult. Also, the mindset shift of being almost done for the day to we have to hike another 6 miles uphill was brutal.
I’m so glad I was with my mom and brother though who are always positive and made this trip all the better.
Hoping to give this one another go as it was absolutely incredible 🙌🏼🙌🏼

3 Ways REI Makes Our Family Camping Trips Go More Smoothly: [Save this post for later!]
Warmer temperatures for us means lots of nights camping as a family. REI is my go to for gear needs, expert advice, and resources.
1. Pack smaller items in larger bins. Having an organized car and campsite makes it a lot easier to find things when you need them. I love the REI Co-op Pack-Away bin to store our jackets, sleeping bags, and blankets.
2. Make a comforting sleep environment for the kids. I pulled out my toddler’s REI Co-Op Kindcamp sleeping bag a couple days before we left so he was used to it and I always bring a sound machine and comfort items.
3. Plan and write down your meals before you go. This way you know exactly what food to pack and you are not trying to figure out what to make right before it’s meal time. I love referencing REI’s camping meal ideas to keep things fresh.
Do you have any camping trips planned? Tell me where you’re going in the comments!

And what feels like the coldest 🥶 I don’t want to be the mom, the friend, the woman who sits and watches while people have once in a life time experiences.
I want to be the mom who runs in and jumps into the ocean with my kids. I want to be the friend who says yes to a sunrise hike. I want to be the woman who dives into the freezing alpine lake.
I want to forget my hair and my cellulite and my makeup and have once in a life time experiences.
What about you, would you jump?

Backpacking with 2 Kids Reality:
It’s hard. My pack is heavy. Sometimes my toddler walks slow or doesn’t want to walk at all. Having to stop and help him fix his shoe while I have my almost 2 year old strapped to my front and heavy pack on my back feel like it might break me sometimes.
Getting them to bed in a cold tent while they are still riled up from playing all day can be frustrating. Waking up multiple times a night to either check on them or help them calm down if they cry is tiring.
But I still love it. Not everything enjoyable in life is easy and if I only looked back on the hard parts, yeah I’d probably never do it again. But the way I feel outside and the way my kids play and run and have so much freedom outweighs any of the downsides. I am stronger than I was 4 years ago and my capacity has grown exponentially.
So take your kids on your adventures and dance along the way

Happy Mother’s to my mom and all of you world changing women out there 🙌🏼♥️
I’m so grateful for a mom who taught me about selfless love, but also a mom who shared her love of life with me. Love you
I could write a book of reasons why kids should spend time outside, even before their minds will be able to retain the memories. But here are 5:
💤 It helps set their circadian rhythm so they sleep better.
📝 Through free play, they learn the skills to help them multitask, troubleshoot, negotiate and more.
☀️ They get exposure to vitamin D which strengthens their bones and immune system
👀 It can help increase their attention span
🍃 They gain an appreciation for nature and will hopefully grow up taking better care of our planet
These early years are vital in forming the mind of person they become and while they might not remember exact details, each one of these experiences is just another piece to their puzzle of life.
Share this with a fellow nature-loving mom 🥰

How I Get a Free Seat on the Airplane for My Lap Baby: [Save this for your next flight!]
When my kids are under the age of 2, I almost always just bring them on as a lap baby since it’s free. But when I do that I always bring their car seat up to the gate to see if there’s room to bring it on.
Make sure you car seat is FAA approved to bring it on the plane, it will say right on the car seat if it is.
I’d say I’ve been able to about 60% of the time. Some flights have been too full, others the gate agent has told me I need to pay for the seat to bring it on. But many flights the flight attendants have been happy to accommodate me bringing it on. It honestly depends on the airline and the gate agent.
I always bring my padded car seat carrier with me to the gate so I can put it in it if I’m not able to bring the seat on the plane. And I just tag it if it’s empty for free if I can!
It never hurts to ask! Let me know if you’ve been able to bring your car seat on the plane before!

5 Tips for Packing Lighter with Kids [Save this post for your next trip! ✈️]
I have traveled a lot with my kids, including internationally, and packing light has become a necessity for making the trips go more smoothly. I have used our calpak luggage on multiple trips and the design and quality is amazing.
[AD] CALPAK is currently having their Memorial Day sale from May 18th-30th where all of their luggage is up to 45% off!
Here are some 5 tips that help me pack lighter:
✈️ Pack shirts and pants that can be mixed and matched so you have multiple outfits with the same pieces of clothes.
✈️Pack clothes in packing cubes so they stay organized and you have a limited space for how many pieces you can bring. (I’m using Calpak’s packing cubes in this video!)
✈️ Buy things like diapers at your destination. I don’t always do this, but it does save a lot of space in your suitcase. I always bring a few, though in case we can’t get to the store right away.
✈️ Wear bulkier items like tennis shoes and jackets on the plane.
✈️ Share things so you don’t pack double. My daughter and I use the same hair brush when traveling and often times I will just use my husbands deodorant.
What’s your best trick for packing light?

How I Filter My Water When Backpacking [Save this post for later!]
Treating your water when backpacking is an essential part of your trip. Even if you plan on carrying all of your water, you should always have a back up method to treat water for emergencies.
I have been using my sawyerproducts Squeeze for about 6 years and love it. It’s perfect for trips for 1-3 people. It’s relatively inexpensive and easy to use. I definitely prefer the regular one over the mini because the flow rate is much better.
I usually backwash my filter as soon as I get home from a trip, but I always bring the syringe just in case it starts to slow down while I’m filtering.
Another thing to note about these types of filters, if they freeze, they are no longer reliable. So if you are backpacking in colder temps, always sleep with your filter in your sleeping bag.
What’s your preferred way to treat water in the backcountry? What other questions do you have about backpacking?

Here’s a few things I did to feel safe on my first solo camping trip:
⛺️ Slept in the back of the subaru_usa #OutbackWilderness. I was comfortable and felt safe knowing the doors were locked.
⛺️ Kept the driver seat empty and my gear under the back seats and in the passenger seat so if I felt uneasy, I could drive away quickly and without having to get out of the car.
⛺️ Camped at a place I was familiar with and knew I could easily navigate in the dark.
⛺️ Brought quality gear that would keep me warm and comfortable at night. By trading in some old gear through @rei’s Re/Supply program, I used the gift card I got to upgrade my camp sleeping gear. I got a sleeping pad and a cozy blanket I could share with my dog!
⛺️ Last and most important, I let my husband know exactly where I was camping and when to expect me home. I had my satellite communicator by me as well in case I needed to update him on any changes.
Have you solo camped before? What do you do to help you stay safe?
Also, starting today through October 31st, Members get an extra 10% bonus on all eligible trade-ins, plus free shipping on mail-in trade-ins! This is the best time to trade-in your used gear!

Backpacking with My 3 Year Old was one of my favorite trips this year. I loved being able to spend 1 on 1 time with him outside.
We did a little over 3 miles round trip and almost 1,000 feet of elevation and he walked the whole way. This wasn’t his first backpacking trip and he has spent dozens of nights in a tent throughout his little life.
He loved it, I loved it, and even if he doesn’t remember this exact trip when he’s older, it is one of the many life experiences that will shape him into the person he becomes.
