Thank you to all of you who sent me your ideas for our farms logo! We had a lot of great ideas come in and this was a very difficult decision for our family to make. After a family discussion- What we have decided on one that was sent to us by Dawn Woody! Thank you so much!!!
I borrowed this from a friend.

I have been super fustrated over this lately, after seeing something like this floating around I though this was a great time to share a little information on store bough eggs!
Saw these prices for eggs at Walmart this weekend.
WALMART.
And I wanted to take a second to educate on what the difference is.
In the first photo you see: Free Run Omega-3 eggs for $6.94
Free run= not in a cage, but still in a community building. Think 10,000 chickens on the concrete floor of a large "barn". No access to the outside. But they aren't kept in cages, right?
Omega-3 = an omega 3 powder supplement sprinkled in their processed feed. Much the same that we as humans would take in a vitamin supplement. Less than 3% of that translates to the eggs.
In the second photo you see: organic, free range brown eggs for $6.28 (was $7.07)
Organic= 20% of their feed is certified organic. Yup. That's it.
Free range= they aren't in cages. They MIGHT have access to a covered, outdoor run but it isn't mandatory.
Brown eggs do not equal unbleached. All commercial eggs go through a bleach bath.
In the third picture you will see: free range eggs for $6.27
Free range just means no Cages. They are allowed to live in a community style. Often they have a covered outdoor run, but it isn't mandatory to have that in your advertising.
All of these eggs are similar in price to ours. With advertising that makes you think your getting the good, all natural stuff, when in reality....if you saw how these chickens were raised you'd cry over the mistreatment 😭
But for $6(or in some cases as low as only $5!) You can get eggs from Pastured Poultry. And what does that mean?
It means our chickens are doing what you think Free Range Chickens are doing. Running around the grass, eating bugs, and soaking up the sunlight. (Because did you know, that a chicken that has access to sunlight lay's an egg that 50% higher in Vitamin D?)
Our eggs are washed, but in lukewarm water, not bleach or other chemicals. 🤢
Someone holds our chickens daily, most are hatched from our own eggs. And the love and care we put into all our animals can be seen in the color of the yolks, felt in the thickness of the shells and tasted in the creaminess of the eggs.
So if your going to spend $7/at Walmart for "free run" eggs, why not spend $6/at a local farm, support a small business, get them DELIVERED to your door, and get better quality?
And it doesn't have to be through us. Support any of the many small farmers this summer and taste the difference for yourself💖 Thank you 5S Farms for this information
Happy Friday y’all!!

Productive evening! Got chores done as a family also finished the meat chicken tractor this evening! Even hung out for awhile to watch the storm roll in! Thankful for the rain!
In other news around the farm in an attempt to keep martini away from cinnamon so we can dry her off, and since she’s so easy to lead I took her to the other barn with the pigs. I should have recorded it but I was in complete awe and disbelief and wtf just happened mode I couldn’t even believe my eyes…. After going around and trying to trample all the bugs and kick them in two full crazed jumping bucking laps around the barn. She ran up to the gate which was shut and locked with a Hotwire running in front of it looked at me standing there and looked down at the gate. And JUMPED IT … I was in shock like what in the hell just happened. She trotted straight back to the cattle barn and inside and stood there like let me back in that pen.i was in such disbelief I felt I had no choice after the amazing display of acrobatics she just did in front of my but to give in and let her go back in. So now plan b when I get the courage to do that I’ll record it!!! Hopefully far less eventful!
