Pierrot Postal is a farmer in the Argonne region near Verdun. Every year Pierrot digs up on average 3 tons of unexploded ordnance. Here he shows his friend photos of his village and surrounding farm land just after . Some of the heaviest fighting in the area took place where Pierrot is standing today. Remnants of war are always closer than you think.

A farmer holds up a 100yr old German fuse from that he found after ploughing his fields. The magnitude of debris left over from two world wars is scattered everywhere. Today this still poses a threat to the livestock and machinery all over northeastern France and much of Europe

Artillery shells extracted from a river near the Belgian/France border. 100 year later they are perfectly preserved. Farmers dumped them into the river shortly after ww1. It is estimated that hundreds of shells still sit at the bottom of the river Othe and it will take many more missions by the French Départment du Dèminage to remove them all. These shells are still very dangerous and threaten the water supply, livestock and humans....this slug didn’t mind though
