Epic Fail in Lisbon
It was bound to happen, right? The fear, uncertainty, etc? Trying so hard to stay in the moment and allow space for what's next.
DAY 4 Airport Wisdom / Reflections on Quitting Our Jobs to Travel
Getting a slight respite from our travels in the British Airways Lounge in Heathrow. Are we jet-lagged? Yes! Slightly hung-over? Maybe, but what better way to start a new life chapter than to celebrate with friends? It wasn't all wild partying though. We slipped in a breakfast business meeting with some peeps from our old company, which was very pleasant, but Cliff paid dearly for that indiscretion almost immediately. The gods were not going to let us do anything related to "work" without inflicting at least a little (back) pain.
DAY 1 / OMG What Have We Done. We Quit Our Jobs to Travel
We shot this video the very first day after quitting our jobs to travel and begin the next chapter of our lives with a clear head. We look as burnt-out as we felt, which we attribute to cramming three months of work into the three weeks leading up to our departure. We share our feelings of exhilaration, relief, fear, uncertainty, but mostly excitement to try something completely new.
We were still in a bit of shock after 23 years building our agency and then selling it to CreativeDrive/Accenture. There were old habits and patterns we'd adopted throughout those years that were helpful at the time, but needed to be revisited and re-assessed. By planning our trip to Portugal to be on the heels of our exit, we were able to break some of those patterns that may have been more challenging if we'd just stayed home after quitting.

If you’re turning the page on a new chapter in your life, leaving your job to pursue your dreams, or even quitting your job to travel, then you’re not alone. We are Cheryl and Cliff Pia and we’ve recently embarked on a similar path. We’ve been married for 25 years, raised four kids, and built a successful ad agency together in NY and CA. We’ve had two near-bankruptcy level financial crises, were forced to relocate our family, survived a major health scare, and have learned a hell of a lot along the way. We’ve learned from business and spiritual leaders, had a slew of personal coaches and teachers from every discipline and even enrolled in Dartmouth Business School. Everything we’ve learned and implemented that’s gotten us to where we are today, we’re going to share in case it can be of value to you. So, we invite you to come along for the ride, give us a follow, and share your experiences with us. See you on the path.
