The Department of Finance (DOF) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI Philippines) have amended Rule 18, Section 5 of the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of the Corporate Recovery and Tax Incentives for Enterprises (CREATE) Act, to respond to the VAT-related issues of both domestic market enterprises (DME) and registered export enterprises (REE) in the country.

The amendment will allow transitory REEs to continue availing of the VAT zero-rating on local purchases until the electronic sales reporting system (ESRS) of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) is fully operational, or until the expiration of the 10-year transitory period under the CREATE Act, whichever comes earlier.

LUNGSOD NG MAYNILA—Isinagawa ni Kalihim ng Kagawaran ng Kalakalan at Industriya (DTI) na si Fred Pascual ang pinaigting na pagsusuri sa presyo ng mga school supplies sa Divisoria noong ika-17 ng Agosto 2023.

Matapos ang paglabas ng pinakabagong "Gabay sa Pamimili ng School Supplies" alinsunod sa programa ng Kagawaran ng Edukasyon (DepEd) na "Balik Eskwela," ang grupo na binubuo ng Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau (FTEB) ay nagsagawa ng biglaang pagsusuri upang inspeksyunin ang aktwal na presyo ng mga school supplies na itinuring na pangunahing kalakal.

Ani Kalihim Pascual, “Mas pinaigting namin ang pagsusuri sa presyo ng mga kagamitan sa paaralan para siguruhing sinusunod ng mga tindahan ang aming inilabas na Gabay sa Pamimili ng School Supplies noong nakaraang buwan. Gusto naming siguruhing ang mga magulang na bibili ng mga gamit sa paaralan para sa kanilang mga anak sa paparating na taon ng eskwela ay hindi magiging biktima ng sobrang taas na presyo at iba pang hindi makatarungang paraan ng pagbebenta.”

Dalawampu't dalawa (22) sa 23 na tindahan na sinuri ay nakitang sumunod sa gabay sa presyo. Samantala, tinawagan ng pansin ng DTI ang isang tindahan matapos mapansin ang isang kagamitan na may mas mataas na presyo kaysa sa gabay sa presyo at itinatagubilinan na magsumite ng pagsusulat na paliwanag sa loob ng tatlong araw mula sa pagtanggap ng sulat.

VP Sara SONA 2023 outfit pays tribute to Moro tribe

At the second State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand “B**gbong” Marcos Jr. on Monday, Vice President Sara Duterte donned a traditional Maguindanaon dress to pay homage to the Moro tribe.

According to the Office of the Vice President, Duterte’s SONA 2023 dress is a Bangala paired with a trouser and a flowing inaul or malong.

It was designed by Cotabato City-based designer Israel Ellah Ungkakay.

“She will wear a traditional Maguindanaon dress to pay homage and celebrate the Moro tribe that are living mostly in South Central Mindanao,” the OVP said.

Hidilyn Diaz wins three golds in the 2022 World Weightlifting Championship.

MANILA, Philippines — Hidilyn Diaz has finally added the elusive World Weightlifting Championship gold to her collection as she ruled the women’s 55-kilogram division on Thursday (Manila time) in Bogota, Colombia.

The Tokyo Olympic gold medalist tallied a total lift of 207kg to beat Rosalba Morales of Colombia and Ana Gabriela Lopez of Mexico, winning all three gold medals in the sn**ch, clean and jerk, and total.

Diaz lifted 93kg in the sn**ch to win her first gold in the world championship and recorded 114 kg to top the clean and jerk.

With an assured medal in clean and jerk, she tried to lift 117kg and 121kg but failed.

The 31-year-old weightlifting icon has finally captured the missing World Championship gold to her collection which includes gold medals from the Olympics last year, Asian Games, and Southeast Asian Games.

The world championship gold is something Diaz has been chasing since settling for bronze in the women’s 53kg in 2015 and 2017. She backed out of the weightlifting worlds at Tashkent last year.

The Bogota world competition is part of Diaz’s bid to qualify for Paris 2024, where she seeks her fifth Olympics appearance.

Other Filipinos also competed in the tournament. Nestor Colonia finished seventh in the men’s 55kg division, while Lovely Inan and Rosegie Ramos saw action in the women’s 49kg class and placed 13th and 17th, respectively.

Erleen Ando will also participate in the women’s 59kg, Vanessa Sarno and Kristel Macrohon join the women’s 71 kg, while Dave Lloyd Pacaldo takes part in the men’s 67kg.
