Why was this moment THEEE moment of the week for me?
* Since 2019 there has been a question mark hanging over Aiden's head regarding where his heart and desires will fall as he gets older.
* As a little kid, he liked princess pencils. Charlotte made fun of him and Cameron didn't understand why Aiden wouldn't just pick something else so he wouldn't get called "gayden."
* With a little time and a sprinkling of SORAS, Aiden found himself entering his teenage years just as Cameron was taking off to college.
* Now at a more appropriate time in Aiden's life to explore these feelings and the potential impact on his relationships, he informs his mother of something she's well known, he likes a boy.
* Elizabeth has been prepped for this revelation for years. Mothers know. They always know. Elizabeth read books, consulted with Brad and Lucas, talked it through with Franco, and landed on how to react: by not reacting.
* The authenticity of this scene was off the charts. Aiden started with gender neutral pronouns, telling Elizbeth everything she needed to know: This was the moment.
* Liz opened the door for her son to speak truthfully, "I'd love to hear more if you want to share." It was up to him to tell her that his crush was male. It was up to him to tell her anything, and in that he knew what she was looking to have confirmed.
* Aiden says "his name is Tobias." He studies his mom's face for a moment, seeking the comfort and acceptance that he knew he'd get... but was terrified to be wrong about. She smiles. He knows everything is gonna be OK.
* Liz doesn't say "OH YAY! WHOO! A DUDE! I'M SO PROUD OF YOU!" She doesn't make the moment huge. She treats it as any other conversation with her kids...
* She compliments Tobias. She says he had her support in the science fair. The only thing she does is thank Aiden for telling her. Really saying "thank you for trusting me."
* Aiden hugs his mother. AIDEN punctuates the new reality of life in the Webber home with a hug to his mother, who couldn't be happier to have bonded more deeply with her kid who is about to start some big life stuff.
WHERE DOES IT GO FROM HERE?
With Kristina's LGBTQIA+ Youth Home opening at the start of the summertime, the groundwork has plenty of time to be laid out in regard to the LGBTQIA+ characters on GH. Kristina, Aiden, Blaze, Brad, Lucas, and Felix have all had their moments and this is a great opportunity to really showcase some wonderfully deep storytelling of a community greatly underrepresented in the soap landscape.
