I had the privilege to join the Hmong American Community of Oregon (HACO) Summer Picnic. The HACO is a non-profit organization readily to provide scholarship for colleges, assistance promote awareness to the small community and plan yearly Hmong New Year events. This picnic did more than provide food for 100+ people, they've set up a volleyball tournament with a few teams (including two teams from Washington), provided scholarships for two students for college, this was only possible with the help of board members and volunteers!
Even with individuals busy lives, "We still want to get people connected" - President Yeng Cha Dhabolt
The Hmong people have a rich history of migration and resilience, stemming from their origins in the mountainous regions of China, Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand. After the Vietnam War and the communist takeover of Laos, many Hmong individuals were forced to flee their homeland due to persecution. As refugees, some Hmong families and individuals found resettlement in different parts of the United States, including Oregon. ("Hmong Immigration")
