As a candidate you can never help feeling nervous when it gets close to election time, no matter how hard you’ve worked.

The best tonic is to get out on the doorstep and talk to voters and I’m pleased to say that last night and at all our recent street surgeries we received lots of support and recognition for the things we’ve delivered - and met a fair few people who’d already sent back their postal votes for Labour!

I’m so proud to represent this brilliant community and hope to get the chance to continue to do so.

Use all three votes for Labour! 🗳 🌹

The soft-on-crime Conservatives, led by a law-breaking prime minister, are letting criminals off and letting victims down.

Vote Labour on 5th May to send a message to the Tories that Britain deserves better.

Councillors give £3,000 to local causes 👇🏻

Every councillor in Bury has access to a £1,000 discretionary budget to support any local initiative which benefits the community.

Your Moorside Action Team work together to ensure our combined £3,000 has maximum effect and we spent every penny. Our contributions are led by requests from residents and community groups.

Here’s what we’ve spent it on this year:

✅ Donations to The Attic Project and Chesham Fold TRA food banks

✅ A new picnic bench in the green space on Cateaton Street

✅ Support for Chesham Fold TRA Christmas and Easter events

✅ New tools for Friends of Chesham Woods to support their tree maintenance work

✅ A permanent, living Christmas tree in Clarence Park (coming this year!) working with the Friends group and with extra support from local businesses

✅ Selection boxes which we delivered to 40 local families at Christmas

✅ Bulbs and wildflower seeds for residents to plant on the green at the top of Goldfinch Drive

✅ Our ‘Pride of Moorside’ awards to Friends of Chesham Woods, Beat the Street, Davenports Group Ltd, The Attic Project and Ramsbottom Angling Association.

We also contributed to two Bury-wide appeals - an eco-initiative by Bury’s Youth Cabinet and the Believe and Achieve awards for Bury’s looked after children.

We’ve already had contact from several people about funding from May and if re-elected we’ll fund as many of your requests as possible. Lots of people asking about funding for Jubilee parties which we’ll be happy to support!

📢 Support our campaign for the government to fund a new Family Hub in East Bury

The government recently dished out £300m for new Family Hubs, which basically replace the Sure Start services they gutted from 2010 onwards.

Sadly, Bury did not get any money, but your nine Labour councillors for Moorside, Redvales and Bury East are working with officers on a bid for the next round.

East Bury has some of the poorest and most deprived communities in the country and this support for parents and children is absolutely vital.

We’ll need your support to put pressure on the government to cough up the money we need.

Great to get out and talk to residents in Fernhill with Moorside Action Team and Bury North Labour Party colleagues. Great to pick up local issues and remind people about the upcoming local elections and the fact that there are THREE votes! Use all three to re-elect your Labour team! 🌹 🗳

Child poverty responds to government policy, and we can see that by looking back over the past couple of decades. The rise and fall of the Child Poverty ActIn 2010, the Child Poverty Act was passed with cross-party support. It enshrined in law Tony Blair's 2001 pledge to end child poverty by 2020.
