To say we had a unique start to 2022 is a huge understatement to say the least. And it really all started off much sooner than you think.
As some of you may already know, our family have been going through some personal issues that I was trying to keep as close to the vest as possible. I thought we could quietly deal with it while still keeping the joy, laughs, and smiles coming your way. Then things changed faster than I could anticipate.
Duke's grandma had to be rushed to hospital for the first time around Dec. 29, 2021. She had been suffering with a leg infection simce the begining of December that she though would go away on its own. Well, it didn't. And she needed help to deal with it.
She was released on New Year's eve with medicine and told to rest. Her leg didn't seem to get better at all and only got worse. So Jan. 13, 2022; she was rushed back to hospital and stayed for 5 days while the doctors figured out what it was and how to treat it.
Turns out it was a rare fungal infection that only elderly people can get. It is so rare that she is 1 of only 3 in Louisiana to have it. She got more stronger meds and finally sent home on Jan. 18, 2022.
All the while, Duke was watched over by a neighbor. He was well taken care of and we were given updates on him daily. Grandma sure did miss her little boy.
Things only seemed to get worse from there. On Jan. 20, 2022 at 2am, lightening hit the electric meter on our house burning it and several wires in the process. Though we didn't know that at the time.
We didn't know what had happened. We thought the whole neighborhood would have been out which was not the case. That's when my heart sank that it was just us and it was bad.
We called the electric company to come out and see what was going on and was told which wires needed to be replaced and what we needed to do to get the power back. Which meant we needed an electrician.
We spent 3 weeks without power while we found an electrician, dealt with the insurance company, and fought to get the power restored. Talk about worry, resolve, and lots of batteries.
Finally on February 1, 2022; we got the power restored and couldn't be happier. We made sure other things weren't burned by the lightening strike and finally got the best night's sleep we've had in 2 months time.
There are several lessons I've learned during this time. Always expect the unexpected. You are always stronger than you think. Help can come from unlikely places. Even when things are at their worst, they will get better. Giving up is not and option. And lastly, you need patience to get through anything.
