LANDLORD DISGUISES HIMSELF AS GHOST TO CHASE DIFFICULTY TENANT IN SOLWEZI

A known business man in Solwezi District of the North Western Province has taken it upon himself to evict a difficulty tenant that happens to be a frustrated lawyer.

Information available indicate that a Mr. Sinkolongo, 38, renting an apartment belonging to Mr. Mwiinde Simon, 43, has been using all sorts of excuses to avoid paying rent for many months now.

The landlord has tried involving the police but the law student despite failing ZIALE exams twice makes them look like they never sat on a desk in their entire lives.

Mr. Sinkolongo uses law jargon and continues to brag about knowing the law. Threatening the landlord to stop inconveniencing him because he can stay in the house forever without paying rent.

It appears this kind of behaviour forced the landlord to recruit friends to be coming with him to the rented house around 02:00 hours making silly sounds and hitting the walls disguised as ghosts.

Meanwhile, it is reported that the stubborn law student stoned the landlord on the eye and when he realized these were not ghosts but his land lord and friends he accused them of stealing close to K150,000 and has filed a complaint citing being terrorized. Saying they could have caused him heart attack, tampering with his health, this is misdemeanor, the lawyer told the police today in the morning.

PATRIOTIC Front (PF) president Miles Sampa has submitted in court that former President Edgar Lungu left a vacancy in the former governing party’s top position after he
resigned as leader.

Mr Sampa, who maintains that he is the duly elected PF leader, has submitted that after
the 2021 general election, Mr Lungu tendered his written resignation as party president
pursuant to article 53 of the party
constitution.

“[Mr Lungu] thereby relinquished all functions and responsibilities associated with the said position, leaving a vacancy for the position of the party president,” he said in his defence to a lawsuit filed against him by nine PF lawmakers who are challenging the legality of the party’s October 24, 2024

Defilement suspect bites cop during interrogation

THE knee of a female police officer in Gwembe has escaped the horror of being mistaken for michopo in the eyes of a teenage suspect who dug his teeth, digging them into her skin during interrogation of a defilement case.

Aside from the bite, 33-year-old Christabel Nasilele Muhali was given a meeting from 19 year-old defilement suspect Kellyson Hambayi whose anger is reported to have been ignited by the officers questions as she was conducting the interviews.

Hambayi, who will now be charged for defilement and assault was on Friday afternoon booked for an interview at the Gwembe Police Station Victim Support Unit with Constable for the offence of defilement.

But as interrogation reached the climax, the teenage suspect thought the constable's questions became personal and got agitated, making him flare up losing his temper and leting his hands and teeth talk for him instead.

The young man managed to overpower the constable who was left in shock as the Hambayi pounced on her, unleashing punches on Constable Muhali.

When his hands could not punch any more, he ended up using his teeth to bite her on the right knee, leaving her with a bruised body.

Southern Province police commanding officer, Auxensio Daka confirmed the incident and said the matter was reported at the same police station.

“A medical form was issued for the Constable and the suspect was arrested,” said Daka.

Makebi Zulu and team abandon Lusambo in hour of need

LAWYERS from Makebi Zulu and Advocates have ditched Bowman Lusambo and wife Nancy leaving them stranded at the time the couple needs legal services the most.

The law firm indicated to the Economic and Financial Crimes Court that it was withdrawing its legal services to Lusambo on professional grounds.

Recently, Lusambo had hinted of ditching his Party PF to join the UPND but his sentiments have not sat well with his comrades in the green camp who continue to give him a social distance.

Few days after his statement, Lusambo received a slap to the face from his lawyers whom he relied on to save him from trouble, when they marooned him hours before he could account for his wealth, before the EFCC.

The firm had sent a junior lawyer yesterday to inform magistrate Faidess Hamaundu that it had ditched Lusambo, and would file a notice of withdrawal afterwards indicating that they had part ways.

Addressing magistrate Hamaundu yesterday Emmanuel Phiri said; “We wish to state that we have instructions on behalf of our client to withdraw as advocates for first and second accused on professional grounds. We had occasion to discuss with both accused and explained to the accused the implication for the said application. We shall file a notice of withdrawal in the course of the day.”

After Lusambo was left all alone with his wife Nancy by his side who is his co-accused, the ‘Bulldozer’ asked the Court to excuse him on reasons that he was unwell and needed time to engage a new lawyer who will have to study the matter before Tuesday next week.

“I informed ACC that I am unwell and wish to see a doctor. With this withdrawal of the lawyer, I ask the court to give us ample time to engage the lawyers to represent us in this case. I ask the court to use its discretion to adjourn the matter to allow me to see the doctor and to engage new lawyers,” Lusambo said.

Police raid Jay Jay's Ibex home

POLICE have confirmed raiding the residence of fugitive Emmanuel Jay Banda in Ibex Hill today as part of ongoing investigations.

According to the police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga, the operation was in line with their mandate to uphold the law and ensure public safety.

Hamoonga confirmed the operation, describing it as a routine procedure within the scope of their investigative work.

However, he declined to provide specific details to avoid compromising the integrity of the investigation.

"We urge the public to remain calm and refrain from speculating on the nature of the operation," Hamoonga stated.

"The Zambia Police Service is committed to conducting thorough and impartial investigations in all matters and will provide updates as appropriate when it is safe to do so."

Petauke Central Member of Parliament Emmanuel Banda escaped from lawful custody in Chipata at the beginning of this month.

Five people including, Banda's wife were arrested for aiding his escape.

Meanwhile, news went round claiming that Jay Jay's sister, Lenny, was apprehended by police over the same case.

However, Hamoonga refuted the claim as saying the police did not detain or surround the Lenny's premises.

About one thousand people who are hearing impaired gathered at the Jehovah Witness Assembly site in Lusaka's Kalingalinga for a special convention focused on sign language. The event aimed to reach the hearing impaired community in Lusaka and surrounding areas. Maxwell Sinkolongo, Jehovah’s Witness Zambia Assistant Regional Spokesman, emphasized that the convention is part of efforts to engage the directly abled groups and spread the word of God. Congregants expressed their appreciation, noting that access to religious teachings in sign language enhances their understanding of God's messages.

Outcry at sentence for man who r***d and killed girl of 7

(BBC) The brutal r**e and murder of a seven-year-old girl has sparked outrage in Ethiopia, with many saying the sentence given to her attacker is too lenient.

Heaven Awot was sexually assaulted, mutilated and killed by her mother’s landlord Getnet Baye last August in the north-western city of Bahir Dar in Amhara region.

Getnet was last week sentenced to 25 years in prison, which he is appealing against, and the case is now adjourned until October.

The mother of the girl, Abekyelesh Adeba, tells the BBC that losing her child has left her feeling "lifeless".

More than 200,000 people have so far signed an online petition demanding a review of the sentencing "to reflect the gravity of the crime" and to offer support for the grieving mother.

One of the largest women’s rights advocacy groups in the country, the Ethiopian Women Lawyers Association (EWLA), released a statement saying they believe the sentencing was "very light", adding "the murder by itself should have been enough to sentence him to life imprisonment or to death… It’s specially sickening and outrageous when such a horrendous crime is committed against children."

Senior government officials have joined the chorus of criticism, with Minister for Women and Social Affairs Ergogie Tesfaye writing on her page that the crimes committed against Heaven were "inhumane" and saying her office would pursue the case with stakeholders.

The brutal attack has triggered heated discussions about the safety of vulnerable women and young girls in Ethiopia.

My role as Socialist Party president ended in 2021- M'membe

SOCIALIST Party (SP) president Fred M’membe has declared that his role as the party’s presidential candidate concluded after the 2021 elections, opening the door for the party to elect a new leader for the 2026 elections.

Speaking on Diamond TV's COSTA show aired last night, Dr M’membe explained that the party had initially selected him as its candidate for the 2021 elections after prolonged discussions and persuasion.

However, he emphasised that his candidacy was never meant to be permanent.

"The party leadership sat down and said we can't leave a vacuum. Like for MPs and councilors, it takes time to develop a potential candidate. We are going to Congress on September 19 this year, which is not for me, and if I am nominated to contest, I will be among the candidates," Dr M’membe said.

Dr M’membe further elaborated that his involvement with the Socialist Party was not driven by a desire to be president but to serve the party in any capacity it deemed fit.

He expressed his openness to being replaced if a more suitable presidential candidate is identified.

"If they find a better presidential candidate tomorrow, they are free to do it. I didn’t join the party to become the President," he reiterated.

Dr M’membe also addressed concerns about recent resignations within the party, asserting that the Socialist Party remains stable and resilient despite the departure of some members.

He downplayed the impact of these resignations, noting that those who left were individuals who had joined the party midway and their exit would not affect its future.

"There is no crisis. The Socialist Party will not crumble because some people left. When did they join, those who have left? They joined the party along the way and they have left along the way. It will not die, just as some other parties did not die when some members left," shared Dr M’membe
