You can learn more about navigating distressed behaviours through our Q&A with PDA adult Julia: https://ow.ly/oUKm50T4383
Distressed behaviours are often a response to feeling overwhelmed. This might look like a meltdown, shutdown or an aggressive outburst and, just like a panic attack, isn't something that can be controlled.
Sometimes understanding the cause of overwhelm can take a bit of detective work, because it's often caused by a combination of factors.
There's lots of things we can to do to support ourselves and the people we care about to make it less likely we'll reach a crisis point - and to support recovery when this does happen.

Masking is something we ALL do - neurotypical and neurodivergent alike. But what IS masking? Masking is the single biggest barrier to Autism diagnosis there is. When autistic kids mask in school it creates a dichotomy between home and school behaviours and leads to parent blame in too many situations. In this episode I look at masking and what it's like for actually autistic people, as well as advice for professionals on how to recognise masking. Autism., Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), and other neurodiversities are, while widely known, sadly misunderstood. The purpose of this channel is to raise both autism acceptance and awareness by helping to educate with understanding and looking at all facets of autism such as Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD), ADHD, Mental Health, and other related topics. I am a father to a beautiful autistic and Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) daughter. My channel is very personal and I'm very open about both the joys and challenges of life with a neurodiverse family and parenting Autism and Pathological Demand
