At long last! The first book dedicated to reincarnation cases in Japan from the perspective of psychical research. Children who remember past lives, between-life memories, xenoglossy, the persistence of physical features, and other phenomena suggestive of reincarnation are all explored here in a series of extraordinary and moving case studies, from the 19th century to the present.

Ohkado Masayuki is a parapsychologist and linguistics professor in the Department of Language and Cultures at Chubu University in Japan. He has been a visiting professor at M.I.T, at the University of Amsterdam, and in the Division of Perceptual Studies, University of Virginia. He is an award-winning author of numerous articles and several books in Japanese on reincarnation and related subjects. This is his first book in English.

Includes a foreword by Jim B. Tucker of UVA Division of Perceptual Studies.

In this book, the linguist and parapsychologist Ohkado Masayuki examines numerous accounts of Japanese children claiming to remember past lives, from the 19th century to the present.

Uniquely, the author also explores cases of children who remember the state between lives, and sometimes even the deaths of their former personalities and the transition to a new life. Such accounts bear striking similarities to descriptions of near-death experiences. In still other cases, children recount memories before conception, and between conception and
birth, often without associated memories of past lives.

Ohkado argues that the accumulated evidence strongly suggests that human consciousness survives bodily death and continues to exist from one body to another. This book demonstrates that the little ones around you are conscious spiritual beings, who may have had profound extraordinary experiences.

The Katsugoro case, together with similar examples found all over the world, inspired the work of Dr. Ian Stevenson of the University of Virginia. With its thorough research and engaging
analysis, this book is an important new contribution to the body of data suggesting the reality of reincarnation phenomena.

"Recently published by White Crow Books, Mind Dust and White Crows, edited by Gregory Shushan and with an introduction by Andreas Sommer, provides many interesting lectures and writings by Professor James and an explanation as to his views and reservations about the survival hypothesis, especially in the chapter on 'Human Immortality.' I 'interviewed' Professor James on the 100th anniversary of his transition to the spirit world in 2010 for a magazine and a journal. The 'interview' was conducted by extracting James’s words from various references and putting questions to them."

"If there is anything which human history demonstrates, it is the extreme slowness with which the ordinary academic and critical mind acknowledges facts to exist which present themselves as *wild* facts with no stall or pigeon-hole, or as facts which threaten to break up the accepted system." -- William James, 1890.

Out now -- In this engaging and comprehensive book, the philosopher Brooke Noel Moore provides a unique synthesis of the philosophical and parapsychological aspects of belief in life after death. He explains the various theories of personal survival after physical death, discusses the mind-brain relationship, personal identity, the possibility of disembodied existence, reidentification of spirits, and alternative concepts of self. By exploring the theoretical philosophical approaches to life after death alongside a critical examination of the accumulated empirical evidence of 100 years of psychical research, Moore explains, critiques and integrates both areas of study into a complete assessment of the possibilities beyond death.

Although skeptical of much of the evidence for survival, Moore retains a level-headed perspective throughout, prioritizing reasoning and rationality over any personal prior religious or philosophical commitments. Such balance and intellectual honesty are rare in contemporary parapsychology, and Moore’s book should be seen as a model of fairness and open-mindedness for both skeptics and believers alike. Moore’s assessments of mediumship, reincarnation, xenoglossy, deathbed visions, electronic voice phenomena, out-of-body experiences, and near-death experiences are essential reading for anyone seriously interested in the ultimate meanings of these extraordinary phenomena.

Selected by the Blavatsky Study Center as one of the 49 “Cream of the Crop” Titles on Life After Death.

“An excellent book which deserves to be better known.” – Paul Edwards

“The book is excellent. It makes a good textbook for a philosophy course on the subject, and provides a good source book for the critical literature on those issues surveyed.” - Journal of the Society for Psychical Research.

Out now! Most of the world's religions hold a belief in some form of life after death. The editors of this major anthology seek a global perspective on the importance of these beliefs, based on religion, psychical research, and the natural sciences.

Eleven chapters explore the afterlife teachings of religions around the world. In order to emphasize the diversity beliefs - even across particular belief systems - some contributors write from within the traditions, while others offer critical and alternate views. The chapters cover afterlife beliefs in African religions, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism while raising a number of important questions. Is a belief in an afterlife necessary to provide meaning to the here and now? Can science provide the means of affirming such beliefs?

A further four contributions address these questions directly, and critique the belief systems from the perspectives of philosophy and psychical research. The final chapter highlights the importance of research into states of consciousness during near-death and other mystical experiences.

Taken as a whole, the book constitutes the most valuable resource on the subject to date. The editors conclude that in some respects, a global perspective does emerge - particularly that human beings are more than just our bodies, but are "composed of a physical and nonphysical element."

The contributors are all prominent international scholars, including Kofi Asare Opoku, Daniel Cohn-Sherbok, Thomas McGowan, Sulayman S. Nyang, Salih Tug, Mariasusai Dhavamony, R. Balasubramanian, Saeng Chandra-Ngarm, Bruce R. Reichenbach, Antony Flew, Arthur S. Berger, David Lorimer, and the editors themselves.
