"The National Museum of Philippines building and its surrounding areas match our requirements for President-elect Marcos' inauguration. Preparations are already in full swing to ensure that it will be ready by then," sabi ni Angping.

"The safety and welfare of our people are paramount. As such, we chose to avoid disrupting the medical care being given to the COVID-19 patients housed there. That's why we opted for the National Museum as the venue," dagdag niya.

Ivan John Uy bilang head ng Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).

Five more nominees added to BBM’s list of incoming cabinet

FIVE more nominees were named today as Secretary-designates to various departments of the incoming administration of President-elect Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos, Jr.

In a press briefing, incoming Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles told reporters that those nominated for the cabinet positions are:

1. former chair of the Commission on Information and Communication and Technology (CICT) Atty. Ivan John Uy, as Secretary-designate of the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT);
2. former Manila Rep. Naida Angping, as Secretary-designate of the Presidential Management Staff (PMS);
3. Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Assistant Governor Amenah ‘Mina’ Pangandaman, as Secretary-designate of the Department of Budget and Management (DBM);
4. Liloan Mayor Esperanza Christina Frasco, as Secretary-designate of the Department of Tourism;
5. and renowned journalist and public servant Erwin Tulfo, as Secretary-designate of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Uy, apart from being in the cabinet of former President Noynoy Aquino (PNoy), is also the current corporate secretary of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) and a Humprey fellow of the University of Minnesota.

He is also a well-known information technology (IT) law expert and a regular resource person for both houses of Congress and the Senate on IT matters.

Uy said he will focus on the digital infrastructure which was among the main programs and campaign promises of Marcos.

“The president-elect’s vision of a digitally empowered citizenry actively participating in the increasingly digital economy would greatly help address nagging issues on poverty, job creation, bridging the digital divide making us globally competitive,” said Uy who added that he will promote and strengthen the digital economy, digital education and e-governance.

For her part, Angping is also not new in the public service as she served three-term as a congresswoman in the third district of Manila and with vast experience in international relations and diplomacy.

Angping, who won Ms. Caltex in 1970, also served as technical assistant of the Office of the Governor of Leyte and executive assistant of former China, Saudi Arabia, and US Ambassador Benjamin Romualdez

Meanwhile, counting over two decades of policy development and finance expertise, Pangandaman led various government offices before landing the role of managing director of the Office of the Governor and Executive Offices of BSP in 2019.

Pangandaman is also a former assistant secretary of DBM and former chief of staff of the late Senate President Edgardo Angara.

DOT Secretary designate Frasco, on the other hand, is a two-termer mayor of Liloan, a first income class municipality in Metro Cebu.

Frasco also served as the spokesperson of incoming Vice President Inday Sara Duterte in the last elections.

The DSWD Secretary designate is a known public servant, popular television and radio personality.

Public service is also not new to Tulfo, who has been helping the public for more than three decades.

Apart from being a veteran journalist, Tulfo has long been known for helping through his “action center,” which became a refuge and destination for the oppressed people, particularly the poor.

People with financial, medical, and other needs seek refuge in Tulfo’s action center for help.

Boosting diplomatic, trade ties discussed during courtesy visits to BBM by envoys from Singapore, UK, France, and EU

INCOMING President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr. on Monday (May 30) received ambassadors from Singapore, United Kingdom, France, and European Union during separate courtesy calls at BBM headquarters in Mandaluyong City.

First to visit Marcos was Gerard Ho, Singapore Ambassador to the Philippines at around 9am followed shortly by Ambassador Laure Beaufils of United Kingdom.

At around 11 am European Union Ambassador Luc VĂšron also paid a visit followed by Ambassador Michelle Boccoz of France who arrived at about 12 noon.

During their private meetings, the envoys vowed to strengthen the ties in trade and diplomacy, as well as their common interests in democracy, self-determination, and economic recovery.

Singapore Ambassador Ho faced the media following his meeting with President-elect Marcos to discuss his short meeting with him.

“As you know, Singapore and Philippines are friends and close partners. (Our) countries are both founding members of ASEAN and successive generations of Singaporean and Philippine leaders have worked together for the peace and prosperity of the region,” Ambassador Ho said in his opening statement to the media.

“In fact, during our conversation earlier with president-elect, we talked about all the conversations our founding father Mr. Lee and his father Mr. Ferdinand Marcos had talked about when we were discussing developments in the region and working together on it,” Ho added.

The Ambassador also discussed the economic reforms between the two Asian countries.

“I think with the resumption of cross-border travel, as well as the passage of a lot of significant economic reforms in the PH, we are hopeful that we continue to grow this bilateral economic relationship with the PH and it will continue to flourish,” the ambassador noted.

“We see a lot of growth potential in the Philippines and we hope to see more and more Singapore companies coming into the Philippines’ market,” Ho added.

Ho also confirmed that Singapore President Halimah Yacob invited Marcos to visit their country.

However, he clarified that there are no details as of yet as they are still discussing the schedule of the two leaders.

Ambassador Beaufils of the UK also insisted on the good relationship of their country with the Philippines.

“So, I am delighted that I just came out of the meeting with the President-elect which was really useful, very informative, and very warm. I was able to set out that the UK already has a really strong bilateral relationship with the Philippines and a strong friendship between our countries and between our peoples and that we intend to take that from strength to strength over the course of the president-elect’s administration,” Beaufils noted.

“We were able to discuss areas of particular joint interests where we want to further work together and expand and broaden and deepen our collaboration. For example, as you know, the president-elect is very focused on the economy and we
boosting the economy after the pandemic and we were able to discuss what the UK has been doing in that space and what more we would do support businesses, to support trade, to support investments and infrastructure in particular,” she added.

Beaufils added that they also talked about climate change, energy, peace process in Mindanao and also human rights and media freedom.

“And I said I was very much looking forward to working with the next administration,” Beaufils averred.

Ambassadors from France and EU did not allow media interview due to prior commitment.

Only last week, Marcos, received United States ChargĂ© d’Affaires, and the Ambassadors from Japan, South Korea, and India during separate meetings Monday at BBM headquarters in Mandaluyong city.

The envoys also assured Marcos of their willingness to provide necessary assistance to hasten the country’s recovery from the ill-effects of the pandemic.

Business groups praise BBM for appointing Economic “A-Team”

INCOMING President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr., has received praises from the business community for appointing his economic managers who have no political colors and who were known as the best and considered as “A-team” in the sector.

Marcos recently announced the nomination of Arsenio Balisacan as National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), while outgoing Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor Ben Diokno, was nominated as finance secretary.

Diokno will be replaced by Felipe Medalla as BSP governor while Alfredo Pascual has also accepted his nomination as Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) secretary.

“Very reassuring, most of them have been in the public service before. Ok naman ang mga track record nila and they have done well,” said George Barcelon, president of Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) in an interview on a television network.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Exporters Confederation also praised the appointment of BBM’s economic team which it claimed was not a political accommodation and is confident will serve the public truthfully.

“We are very happy with the choices. Yung unang fear namin baka magiging political appointees. Yung mga ‘yun ay kinausap at some of them, pinakausapan pa magsilbi,” according to Sergio Ortiz-Luis Jr., president, Philippine Exporters Confederation.

For its part, the Management Association of the Philippines (MAP) is very confident that the small businesses will be protected under the leadership of Pascual, the incoming DTI secretary.

“He (Pascual) knows what he’s going to do, of course with the DTI a lot of uplifting in the SMEs, I think the Filipinos are one of the best business people, you give them a space automatic may sari-sari store, automatic they would know how to sell. So imagine that if we give them that platform to really become business people, to really become entrepreneurs, we would really have a very strong economy,” Donald Lim, president of MAP, noted.

Also, political economist Calixto Chikiamco, branded the economic team of Marcos as the “A-Team” in the business community because of its vast experience in the government service.

“All of them have academic credentials and also they all have the experience. Medalla, Diokno and Balisacan all have PHDs in economics and were former professors in the UP School of Economics,” said Chikiamco in the same interview.

“While Pascual used to be a consultant with ADB and former President of UP. So they’re all tried and tested, so the business is quite confident in the competence of this new economic team,” he added.

Balisacan, who served in at least three presidents—Joseph Estrada, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Noynoy Aquino—believed that apart from being an expert in the business industry among his qualifications is that he has no political leaning.

“I think the incoming president knows very well that I don’t have politics in my blood and I just do my work. So it should not really matter who I work with,” Balisacan said in another interview.

“I worked with Pres. Estrada as well. I was Undersecretary of the Department of Agriculture when he was president. I worked with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and of course Pnoy at the highest level. I really did not put any politics at all into my work,” he added.

For, Diokno, it’s duty call when he accepted the nomination as Finance department head.

“Duty calls I think because right now we have a very good team at the BSP, I know that Philip Medalla is a good replacement for me and the President says he needs somebody who will be responsible for running the economy and that’s it. How you can refuse the president who was elected by 31Million Filipinos. So, that’s the story,” Diokno said.

It is done! Congress proclaims Marcos 17th President, Sara VP

Congress, sitting as National Board of Canvassers (NBOC), on Wednesday proclaimed Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos, Jr. and Inday Sara Duterte as the duly-elected president and vice president, respectively, in the recently-concluded national and local elections.

The proclamation came two days after Congress convened as NBOC and conducted what Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri described as the historic and fastest canvassing by Congress ever.

Zubiri led the Senate contingent for the NBOC while House Majority Leader Martin Romualdez led the contingent for the House of Representatives.

Based on the results of the official canvassing by the Zubiri-Romualdez committee, Marcos garnered a total of 31,629,783 votes while Duterte garnered 32,208,417 votes.

The two terminated the committee a few minutes after the last COC was canvassed to give both Congressional chambers time to issue a resolution containing the results of the canvassing.

The joint session was later resumed and Marcos and Duterte were officially proclaimed.

It took the committee just two days to finish tabulating more than 100 COCs from 81 provinces and independent cities, and those containing absentee local and overseas Filipinos’ votes.

Save for a few missing COCs that were subsequently produced or whose contents were certified by the concerned election officers, the canvass proceeded smoothly and expeditiously.

Romualdez thanked his colleagues in Congress, including senators, and candidates for a smooth, speedy and transparent canvass of votes for president and vice president.

At the same time, Romualdez congratulated newly proclaimed President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Vice President-elect Sara Duterte, who have won the May 9 vote by a landslide.

He also expressed gratitude to the other presidential and vice presidential candidates and their lawyers for their invaluable cooperation in the tabulation, which was carried live on social media platforms.

For his part, Marcos thanked everyone and urged the entire citizenry to help him in ushering a new era of progress for the country.

“We welcome the results of the random manual audit of votes that the Commission on Elections (Comelec) reported out. We believe that the high accuracy rate proves that the recent elections were not marred by fraud as some sectors have been claiming. The RMA results should erase any doubt regarding the election results. The people have spoken and they have chosen presumptive President-elect Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos to be the country’s 17th president,” sabi ni Rodriguez.

“I appeal to those who keep on pursuing this divisiveness, the people have spoken. The Filipino people have spoken and an overwhelming majority has voted President-elect Bongbong Marcos and Vice President-elect Inday Sara Duterte into office as President and Vice President. Learn to respect the will of the Filipino people,” sabi pa niya.

"India is one of the largest manufacturers of generic drugs. We could go into partnership para magkaroon ng production dito sa Pilipinas," sabi ni Marcos.

"I have no doubt na yung manufacturers natin ay kaya nila pero we will get advice dahil may experience ang India," dagdag pa niya.

"I think the new administration will carry forward the dialogue with the view of creating domestic capacities in the pharmaceutical sector to contribute to the health security of the Philippines," ayon kay Ambassador Kumaran.

"India is one of the strongest partners of the Philippines in the health sector," dagdag pa niya.

"We requested his continued support for the development of excellent bilateral relations between India and the Philippines," sabi ni Kumaran.

"We've been having excellent progress over the past few years and we look forward to continuing the progress and dynamism under the new administration," sabi pa niya.

“We were able to discuss many of the things that how are we going to handle the next few years in terms of the relationship of our countries,” ani Marcos sa press conference matapos ang serye ng pakikipagpulong sa mga diplomats.

“Also, Japanese Prime Minister Kishida, I even spoke with the outgoing Prime Minister of Australia, PM Morrison who had just went through an election. So, marami na talagang nangyayari, we’re already being recognized, This new administration is being recognized mukha namang wala ng problema sa recognition. Maybe the comfortable margin that we enjoy during the election has a part to play with that,” wika pa niya.

“We’ve been having excellent progress for the past few years, and we look forward to continuing the progress that in the relevance under the new administration,” sabi naman ni Indian Ambassador Kumaran.

DEEPER PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN RP-JAPAN SEEN

INCOMING President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos, Jr. is hoping to promote better and stronger bilateral cooperation between the Philippines and Japan and raise to a higher level all aspects of relationship between the two countries.

Marcos raised the possibility following a 15-minute telephone conversation with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida who called him on Friday to personally convey his congratulations.

“I thank Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida for his warm congratulatory message via a phone call this morning. We were able to have a preliminary discussion about Japan-Philippines partnership, which I said is very important and has been one of mutual benefit to our two countries,” he said.

Marcos added that he expressed hope of not only continuing but also increasing all engagements in every aspect of relations between the two countries.

Shortly after their talk, a statement posted on the website of Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reported that Kishida assured Marcos that Japan has every intention of continuing the cooperation and official development assistance to the Philippines.

They intend to do this through the Joint Committee on Economic Cooperation and Infrastructure and the Ministerial Meeting on Foreign Affairs and Defense.

Japan has been assisting the Philippines on various levels such as in economic front that includes infrastructure development including railway and Subic Bay Development and in security aspects that include maritime, and law enforcement.

“I told him that I would like to deepen the cooperation in a wide range of fields in the future and we agreed to work together to strengthen it,” Marcos said.

The President-elect further disclosed that they also exchanged views on current regional developments and both of them have committed to work together for peace and prosperity in the region.

He added they also agreed to meet face-to-face as soon as possible and engage in a deeper dialogue.
