#146 | Try New Things: Lola Oduwole

Born and raised in the vibrant city of Lagos, Nigeria, Lola Oduwole of is a proud firstborn of a Nigerian family. Her parents always had high expectations from her, urging her to be the role model for her siblings, and bear the weight of the "Black Tax." A responsibility she embraced with open arms.

While She had a thriving career in Lagos, destiny called her to Edmonton, Canada. It wasn't an easy decision, but she knew it was the right path for her family. Arriving in a new land, she took up a "survival job" to make ends meet while tirelessly searching for a role that would truly showcase her abilities.

Little did she know that fate had a lesson in store for her. Networking became her superpower, opening doors to opportunities she couldn't have imagined. Through networking, she found her purpose—a purpose that resonates deeply with me as a Nigerian mom raising Canadian children.

Navigating the challenges of being an immigrant mother in a foreign land has its share of hurdles. Yet, she rises above them, embracing the beauty of this multicultural journey. And that's exactly why she decided to create her IG page— to help people embrace a fulfilling life in Edmonton.

3 Main Elements in Mastering a Skill

1. Time: Time is a fundamental factor in any endeavor. It represents the duration required to achieve your goals. Mastery or success rarely happens overnight; it usually requires consistent effort and dedication over a prolonged period. Time allows for learning, growth, and the accumulation of experience. It is essential to have realistic expectations and understand that progress takes time.

2. Practice: Practice is the deliberate and focused repetition of an activity or skill to improve proficiency. It involves consistently engaging in the specific actions required for your desired outcome. Practice helps to refine your abilities, enhance muscle memory, and develop a deeper understanding of the task at hand. Through practice, you can identify areas that need improvement and work towards mastering them.

3. Patience: Patience is the ability to remain calm and persistent while waiting for the desired results. It is an essential virtue when faced with challenges, setbacks, or slow progress. Patience allows you to stay motivated and committed to your goals even when the journey becomes difficult or lengthy. It helps you maintain a positive mindset, as success often requires perseverance and resilience.

🇰🇪 New Episode🎤

#134 | Act With Intention: Christy Kioko

is a Creative, a philanthropist, and a proud Seattleite. As the daughter of Kenyan immigrants, she’s fortunate to have parents who nurtured her artistic talents. However, despite this fortunate upbringing, Christy still experienced the challenge of identity crisis between two cultures, and the insecurities that come with feeling different from her classmates. Her complicated relationship with her hair only added to these struggles. But as an adult, she is now deconstructing these old and limiting mentalities by practicing the art of enjoying the moment and embracing the idea that consistency is more important than perfection. Additionally, singing at church has given her confidence and a sense of purpose.

Driven by her passion for philanthropy, she traveled to Uganda to volunteer for an organization that claimed to help kids in need. However, upon witnessing firsthand the mistreatment of these children and the lack of transparency within the organization, she was inspired to take matters into her own hands. This led her to start her own charity drive, initially called "Operation Christmas" and will be later renamed "Operation Kumbani". Utilizing the power of social media, she was able to solicit donations and support for young children in need in Kenya.

Christy's dedication and drive to make a difference in the world is truly inspiring, and her story serves as a reminder that anyone can make a positive impact, no matter how big or small.
