नानक जी का जन्म पाकिस्तान (पंजाब) में रावी नदी के किनारे स्थित तलवंडी नामक गांव में हुआ था। 1469 में कार्तिक पूर्णिमा के दिन इनका जन्म हुआ था। इस दिन को सिख धर्म में काफी उल्लास के साथ मनाया जाता है। इनका जन्म पिता कल्याण या मेहता कालू जी और मां तृप्ती देवी के घर हुआ।
