Just 10 km from the Belgian border, Breda is the 9th largest city in the country and has many historic buildings and cultural attractions. In the 11th century, Breda was under the patronage of the Holy Roman Emperor. In the 1500s, the city was virtually burned to the ground during a major fire and then conquered by Spanish troops. Continuing its history, the city was occupied in World War II and then liberated by Polish troops. Today it is an important city in the Netherlands and a fantastic tourist destination with its old architecture, beautiful parks and quiet charm.
