These grey days are certainly starting to become all too common.

Rather than let a lack of proper daylight prevent me from taking the camera out, I instead see it as a bit of a challenge to capture something that I might not necessarily bother with.

Mornings like this make my brain hurt.

Not because of the cold, but because I'm thinking about the distances involved in what you can see hovering above at 4:45am 🥶

That flickering dot above the white light on the Forth Bridge - that's Sirius. A mere 8.6 light-years away, which is approximately 50555098402206.21 miles.

The numbers get well and truly mind-boggling when you realise that the three 'stars' (only one of them is a star; the other two are star systems) that form Orion's Belt are roughly 740, 2,000, and 690 light-years away.

As a 'photographer' I enjoy watching other photographers faffing about with all their accoutrements for a shot I can't quite see the point of taking.

Maybe I've spent way too many years down by the Forth and know when it's going to be a sunset worth capturing or just watching. 🤷‍♂️

I guess the photographer in me saw a different shot worth taking from the confines of a filthy car.
