"Wait for someone kind.
Wait for someone respectful, not only in the beginning stages of the relationship when things are bright and beautiful, but also when things get hard. Wait for someone who respects your boundaries and does not force you to do things that you’re not willing or ready to do.
Wait for someone who is giving and does not keep count of the good things they do for you.
Wait for someone who challenges you mentally. Someone who inspires you to be a better person.
Wait for someone who takes their time to learn and understand you.
Wait for someone who is consistent with their efforts in showing you how much they care about you.
Wait for someone who wants to be part of your world, and wants you to be part of theirs.
Wait for someone who lets you know you’re on their mind, someone who checks in on you, someone who wants you to know that they care for you.
Wait for someone who is willing to commit to you, someone who is willing to choose you.
Wait for someone who makes love feel easy, calm. Like coming home.
Wait for someone sincere. Someone who doesn’t confuse you because their actions match their words. Wait for someone honest.
Wait for someone who does their absolute best to not hurt you, someone who strives to protect your heart.
Wait for someone who will choose you over and over and over again. Love is a choice you make every single day. You deserve to find the kind of person who shows up for what you share, someone who believes in it.
Wait for someone who’s not perfect, but rather, real. Perfect is an illusion. Real is where you find something rare and special.
Wait for someone who reminds you that love was always meant to be soft."

You’ll always have you
Who is your greatest protector, teacher, lover, and friend?

No, it’s not your partner, mother, or best friend.

The answer is you.

Let me put it this way. If you had a hundred good friends but were not a friend to your own self, you would always feel alone.

However, if you had just two good friends but were the greatest friend to your own self, you would always feel fulfilled and at peace.

Yes, the people in our lives play immeasurably valuable roles. They give us love and teach us lessons.

But you are your own greatest everything. Remember this.

What if I could imbibe my life with the clarity of thought, precision, control and simultaneous surrender that I am able to wield as a performer? Wouldn’t life change inexplicably for the better?

I wanted to work with a friend who could perhaps capture moments that I am completely unaware of during the performative experience. In 2020, Anup and Vivian joined me on tour and captured our journey during a series of Shivaratri performances. We created two books that describe this journey from two different perspectives: the performer’s perspective and the viewer’s perspective. Finding Shiva is written from the performer’s perspective while Discovering Devi conveys the viewer’s perspective through a selection of photographs.

I refrain from saying ‘experiencer of dance’, as the one dancing and the audience both experience the dance, therefore this phrase does not distinguish one from the other.

Did you know elephants can be held captive by their minds?

There was a man in Africa on safari who saw a group of captive elephants, each with a rope tied to their ankle.

He was confused. They were gigantic creatures, some being over 13,000 pounds…

Yet they were being held in place not with chains or cages – but with ropes driven into the ground by stakes.

The man asked the elephant trainer, “Why don’t the elephants break free?”

The elephant trainer replied:

“When they were very young and much smaller we used the same ropes to tie them. At that age, it’s enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.”

The elephants were all physically capable of breaking free, but remained in captivity due to a lack of BELIEF.

Because they did not believe they could break free, they never tried.

Not only did the elephants’ beliefs keep them captive, but set a precedent for all the elephants around them, too.

It’s as if they thought, “If nobody else could overcome this obstacle, how could I?”

However, if ONE elephant believed they could break free from the ropes, what do you think would happen?

I believe that if the other elephants witnessed one of their friends achieving freedom, they too would immediately attempt to break free.

Because when we see someone else reaching their goals, we often feel MORE motivated to pursue our own.

It’s as if we’ve been given permission to openly pursue our best selves.

No longer are we forced to stick with decisions and beliefs that don’t benefit us…

Just like the elephants, we are often trapped in believing that the world around us is incapable of truly changing, so we don’t dare to even try to change it.

What would happen if we took back control… and broke free from the ropes and stakes that keep us fixated in our current reality?

We would grow immensely and become a stronger version of ourselves.

And those around us would begin to break free from their limiting beliefs, too.

We would experience the DEEP amplification of purpose, presence and energy that healing those around us provides.

We all deserve to change our own circumstances, lead by example, and serve as inspiration for those around us.

If you resonate with these notions and want to free yourself from your current situation, whether that be your job, your mindset, your attitude…

And live with more inspiration, energy, and purpose, and intention

It’s been a long time since I am into new beginnings and building my new life but I took the time to look deep. To reason and to go a little bit inside

Take a long, honest
look at your life.
Not at its flaws, but at its joys. What’s going well? What just feels right? What do you love, cherish, and enjoy the most right now?

Acknowledging the blessings of your life only creates more blessings. Choosing to actively feel gratitude and appreciation for the good around you is a central part of your greater purpose.

So today, ask yourself this:

What do I love and why do I love it?

What am I thankful for and why am I thankful for it?

What am I thrilled about and why does it thrill me?

You’re learning how to feel true gratitude. Welcome it with open arms. 💛

There is beauty
Around you, within you, waiting for you.

The problem is that most of us are moving too fast to notice this beauty.

The solution to this is found in remembering what it feels like to live slowly and deeply notice the magic around you.

This is one of your greatest gifts. It’s also the same thing as living with pure gratitude.

So, the next time you’re feeling rushed, overwhelmed, and uncertain–– remember to intentionally slow down and notice the beauty of your life.

Because, believe me, it’s overflowing. ❤️

Let’s change the beauty standards. Body positivity is about feeling comfortable in your own skin. To own your skin colour, your stretch marks, your weight, your hair. There is not such a thing too dark or too skinny too fat or too short. Here is a reminder that your more than a number on scale and you are more than what others think. Hate on social media and even from people inside of our families will come and go. But nobody can weight your worth!
Here’s to the haters and if you agree with what you read let’s all together change the beauty standards. Stay tuned for more 🎀🧡🧡🧡

We feel the pressure,
every day.
The world we’ve created doesn’t always make us feel safe and accepted. As a result, we may feel pressured to choose things that seem right but in actuality don’t make us happy.
Buying certain clothes to fit in.
Ignoring your unique interests because they’re not “cool” enough.
Getting married because everyone else is.
Choosing the most popular path over your own path.

This way of life may feel like one you didn’t choose but followed. And it’s tiring, isn’t it?

It’s time to listen to your heart. I know it’s cliché, but it’s the only way you’ll ever feel fulfilled.

Everything you once believed was expected of you no longer matters

You like to think big.
Big dreams, big ideas, big expectations, and sometimes… big disappointment.

Abundance doesn’t always appear in the way you think it should. It’s easy to feel heavy with longing when life doesn’t play out like you imagined.

What’s important here is to choose gratitude above all else.

Gratitude asks you to push your disappointment aside. To gently hold what’s in front of you, even when you don’t want to. To understand that the more love you feel for your life, the more it will open to goodness.

Life gives you exactly what you need, at the precise moment you need it. This is true abundance.

Do you feel that? You’re growing.

This is how you heal.
Life requires you to give a lot away–– your time, your attention, your energy. With everything you have going on, rest might be the last thing on your mind.

But getting away from all the noise is the one thing you need most of all. To retreat, to go within, to allow your mind, body, and spirit the time to replenish.

You’ve been giving yourself away to people, places, and things that don’t deserve so much of you. From this moment forward, choose to protect your inner self above all else.

Let the healing continue.

Your beautiful future
is already here.
Thinking about what could be is a function of the soul + imagination. Visualizing better things to come helps you remain hopeful and tender-hearted.

And while believing in a brighter future is a good habit, getting too comfortable living outside your current moment will rob you of the blessings standing right in front of you.

The solution? Opening your grateful heart.

Gratitude is the anchor that keeps you grounded in the perfection of your now. It gives you the clarity to see your life for what it is abundant, beautiful, forgiving, worthy, happening in this present moment.

What you’ve been dreaming of is already here. Do you see it?

With a grateful heart, you can do anything. Let’s continue

Second chances are
sacred and limitless.
I know it sometimes feels like the opposite, but we live in a giving and generous world. There’s an infinite amount of forgiveness and abundance here with your name on it.

You may think that you only have one shot at success, one chance at love, one opportunity to get it right. And that if you mess up, you’ll forever feel like you’re not enough. But you’ve never been more wrong.

Think of all the times you’ve fallen down only to get back up again stronger, more humble, prepared, centered. This is the nature of patience and self-compassion. You try, you fail, you learn. You understand that you are cared for through endless new beginnings.

This is not a scarce world. You get as many chances as you need. The universe wants you to know that all is well and going according to plan. What is expected of you is to continue–– again, and again, and again after that.

INTRO TO AYURVEDA
I first started learning and studying Ayurveda about 4-5 years ago and I have just finished my Ayurvedic Health Counselor course. Note that I am by no means an expert in this and when it comes to Ayurveda, you're not ever really done learning. The information is so deep and intricate...it takes a minimum of 6 years to become an Ayurvedic doctor! BUT I have learnt a fair amount along this journey and so I'm trying to share little bits with you!
There are so many different schools of thought when it comes to Ayurveda but I'll try to be as accurate as possible with the information give out to you all!

In Sanskrit, Ayurveda means “The Science of Life.” Ayurvedic knowledge originated in India more than 5,000 years ago and is often called the “Mother of All Healing.”
When comparing Ayurveda with Western medicine, the diagnostic methods used to identify imbalances are so detailed, it can identify a condition or disease sometimes 4 stages before western medicine does. It is said that Ayurveda is a preventative science, whereas western medicine is curative. I genuinely believe combining both is the best solution :)

Ayurveda's definition of health is not just for the physical body; it is the harmony of mind body and soul. Ayurveda teaches us how to tune into our bodies and how to adapt our life in order to create an environment, internal and external that is most supportive in optimizing our own health.

On a gross level when we look around every day, we see that every single body is unique and so it doesn't make much sense to have medicines, treatments, dietary recommendations as a 'one fits all'. Ayurveda sees each individual as an INDIVIDUAL and so the way my body may react to a specific vegetable may be completely different to the way my husband or friend might.

We all have genes, but our genetic make up differs. In the same way, Ayurveda sees the elements as the fundamental building blocks of humans and nature. Our physical bodies are all made up of the 5 elements, but the proportions of each elements in our bodies differ. In Ayurveda this specific elemental combination is referred to as our DOSHA. Dosha means CONSTITUTION.

Oh but wait! It gets a little more detailed! We are born with an ORIGINAL dosha, our optimal elemental balance (prakruti, in Sanskrit). In parallel, we have our current dosha (vikruti, in Sanskrit). Our current dosha refers to the imbalances we are facing caused by whatever we are experiencing through our senses (eg. changes in environment, the climate, the food we eat, the things we listen to, the things we see every day, the scents we smell, etc.)
So once we are aware of both the goal is to adjust our lifestyle, dietary habits in order to balance back to our original..our optimal health state and keep it there!

A misconception I had at the beginning of my studies was that only certain things are considered are 'ayurvedic' like kitchari or specific vegetables. But as I dove deeper, I realized that actually everything is Ayurvedic. It's just about understanding what your body is feeling and then reacting and nourishing it accordingly. Ayurvedic cooking is where the current physical, mental, and psychological state is considered before preparing a meal. Consequently, the food choices, the spices used, and the way it is prepared is unique to the person and their current circumstance.

There are 3 main DOSHAS - | KAPHA - water & earth| PITTA - fire & water | VATA - air & ether|.

I will break down these DOSHAS FOR YOU AS SIMPLY AS I CAN in my future posts! As Einstein once said, "If you cant explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough." SO WISH ME LUCK!!! This is really putting my studying to use!

Sending you so much love

With gratitude
xx Priya ♡

Your weekly affirmation dosage!

All for your
highest good.
Something can be unexciting, boring–– maybe even a little downright disappointing–– and be everything you’ve ever needed.

The thing is, life rarely plays out in the way we expect it to. It’s not all happy, balanced, or perfectly designed. And yet, it is. Because the universe will always give you exactly what you need, in the exact moment you need it, for your absolute and highest good.

Abundance is not always shiny. Purpose is not always outwardly beautiful. Love can show up rusty, broken, uncomfortable–– and still be more than enough. You just need to open your eyes.

Your job is to embrace everything you encounter in a way that feels both grateful and intentional at the same time. Even when you don’t want to. Especially when you don’t want to.

Life is so full.
There’s an unlimited amount of good to be found here. Why then do we convince ourselves everything is bad and empty and in need of fixing?

Because focusing on the negative causes us to become blind to the joys of the world.

Whether you feel completely lost right now, on track, or stuck somewhere in the middle–– today I want you to slow down and be intentional about the way you choose to see your life.

Consider what real gratitude may feel like for you. Act with decisive love. Be deliberate in the way you recognize beauty.

You don’t need more. You don’t need change. Your most abundant life is already here, right in front of you, waiting for you to notice.

Notice. Love. Give thanks. Repeat. This is your most grateful way of being.

23/11/2021

I’ve started to understand that if we let our soul and body untreated it’s going to turn very much against us in the long term. All we have is now because without now there is no tomorrow. And I am the very first person that knows what living in hustle means without letting me be. Taking care of me. Always fighting or ignoring signs, red flags, my emotions, my pain whether is physical or emotional. But here is the thing also. I am learning to care for myself after finally being with my soulmate because I realised that If I am not well I can’t offer. I can’t be present l, I can’t be consistent and I want to. But also how important is to have by your side someone who is your best cheerleader and how important is to actually have someone present one hundred percent. And by this I don’t mean to baby sit you but to know that there is someone next to you. You can’t always be your own hero and you can’t always stay at the same old habits. We are a constant work in progress but we need to practice self care we need to love us more than anyone else does and we need to be there for ourselves. But also build an environment surrounded with people without toxicity and those who celebrate us for who we really are.

My Greek YUMMY vegan moussaka!
As long as I remember my self with my parents and my yiayia (grandma) I was always watching them cooking and tbh with you most of the things I know are from my yiayia watching her cooking with love and joy for me and my parents every single day. Moussaka is a greek dish and maybe the most popular with nice creamy divine taste ,plants and meat - but oh well who doesnt like to twist a little bit grandmas old recipes to new traditions? I promise you this one is as yummy as the original non vegan one and my husband can confirm that who is so so so picky

🌱 What will you need:
Ingredients
For the base:
2 pounds (1 kg) potatoes peeled
3 large eggplants
Olive oil to brush
Sea salt & pepper to sprinkle

For the lentil mixture:
3 cups (600 g) cooked lentils
2 cups (450 g) passata
1 cup (150 g) chopped tomatoes
1 tbsp olive oil
1 large onion chopped
2 cloves of garlic minced
2 bay leaves
1-2 tsp dried thyme
1 tsp oregano
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp coconut sugar or brown sugar
pinch of cinnamon
Sea salt & pepper to taste

For the béchamel sauce :

2 tbsp (28 g) vegan butter
2 cups (480 ml) plant-based milk
3 1/2 tbsp (28 g) cornstarch
2 tbsp nutritional yeast
Sea salt & pepper to taste
Pinch of nutmeg
Vegan cheese to taste

The magic!

Preheat oven to 200° C and prepare two baking sheets with parchment paper.
Slice each eggplant lengthwise into 4 pieces. Cut the potatoes into 1/2 inch (1 cm) thick slices. Arrange all slices in a single layer on the baking sheets and brush lightly with some olive oil, sprinkle with salt & pepper. Bake in the oven for about 20 minutes or until lightly brown.
Meanwhile, heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the onion & garlic and sauté for about 4-5 minutes. Add the tomato purée, chopped tomatoes, all spices, and salt & pepper to taste. Finally, add the cooked lentils and let simmer on low heat for about 5 minutes.
For the béchamel sauce, add the plant-based milk to a pan/skillet. Mix in the cornstarch, nutritional yeast, salt and pepper, and whisk. Add the vegan butter and bring the mixture to a boil. Let simmer on low heat for a few minutes until it thickens. Whisk continuously. Remove from heat. Check the recipe notes if you don't want to make the béchamel sauce.
Grease a larger baking dish and arrange half of the potato and eggplant slices on the bottom of the baking dish. Top with the lentil mixture, followed by the remaining potato/eggplant slices . Pour the béchamel sauce on top and spread evenly. Add vegan cheese to taste.

Bake in the oven for about 30 minutes or until golden brown. Garnish with fresh herbs. Say a little prayer for everyone who helped to accomplish this dish from the farmers for your veggies to the cashier of your groceries store sprinkle a little love and serve with joy!

Your weekly wisdom dose!

🤍🤍🤍You are indescribable.
We love placing ourselves in boxes with neat, shiny labels. We think these labels make it easier to explain who we are to the world. “Hi, my name is X, and I’m a doctor / mother / creative / student / teacher.”

Yes, there’s value in all these roles we gracefully take on. The problem occurs when we allow them to determine our self-worth. What you need to realize is that you are not your job. At your core, who you really are–– your energy, values, thoughts, love, power, influence, talents–– is worth so much more than a few words could ever convey.

You are indescribable. You are infinite. You are you. A forever work in progress, a perfectly imperfect human, a miraculous soul worthy of all good, loving, beautiful things. Never forget this.

14/11/2021

LIVING THAT NONG(NO ONION NO GARLIC)LIFE 🙌🏾!
SO HERE GOES..the key question I have been asked WHY don't you eat onion and garlic?

Now there are many logical reasons for this. I know...I know... I too absolutely loved those super garlicky pastas (the ones that you smell coming out of your pores for DAYS after..🙄..ok definitely do not miss that part😂) and couldn't imagine life without my dear friend O AND G ( onion and garlic). How could food ever taste good without it? WELL, I've been cooking without it at home for over 7 years now and at the end of every dinner party or gathering with excitement I ask if they could even TELL IF THERE WAS NO ONION OR GARLIC IN THAT. The usual response is...I hadn't even noticed. Onion and garlic have powerful flavors and so really what we just need to master is the ability to make food flavorful with spices and herbs, using them to enhance the flavor of the fruits, veggies & grains we eat! Spice combinations and flavor is definitely an art! Eating out can be a little tricky but it can definitely be done, I sometimes do eat it when I eat out but I just avoid cooking with it at home.

🌼Health
Ys, it has certainly been proven that both onion and garlic have many health benefits and Ayurveda agrees...to some degree. Ayurveda recognizes onions and garlic as blood purifiers and is used in many ayurvedic medicine. However, there is one essential ayurvedic principle when it comes to food. Every ingredient in the RIGHT QUANTITY can be beneficial to the body. In the wrong quantity, it could be extremely harmful.

Somehow garlic and onion have now become the base ingredients for pretty much every single dish and every cuisine, which means the consumption of both in individuals is extremely high. Since onion and garlic are both inflammatory, it is best to eat in moderation.

🌼Yogis
According to Ayurveda, onion is tamasic (makes people irritable, agitated and aggressive) in nature and garlic to be rajasic (energy-draining, disturbed sleep and drained energy) in nature. As per Ayurveda, both these ingredients produce excessive heat in the body.

As part of recommendations for a yogic meditation practice or one following a spiritual path, Ayurveda suggests avoiding both the ingredient as both are believed to distract a person’s focus and attention and increase anger, aggression, ignorance, and anxiety.

🌼The Magical Substitute
Asafoetida (aka hing) is made from a variety of giant fennel, where the sap is extracted and the root is dried to create a vibrant yellow-colored resin, which naturally has a pungent smell. Once it is cooked it comes ‘alive’ as the aroma changes and creates a beautiful flavorful substitute for onion and garlic.
When you look at my recipes you can see I use it sparingly. If you buy it in its pure form (which I would recommend), it is VERY strong and so a tiny amount goes a very long way.
A ½ teaspoon of the powder can be substituted for 2-3 minced garlic cloves or 2/3 of a cup of minced onion.

🌼Health benefits
As always in Ayurveda, every ingredient carries magical medicinal properties. Hing is often used for indigestion. The anti-inflammatory property of hing relieves upset stomachs, gas and bloating. An old Indian practice is to rub hing around the belly button of a baby to relieve gas! It also aids in purifying the blood.

TIP: Make sure you store it in an airtight container, the smell can definitely infuse into other things and can be overpowering! 😂

14/11/2021

What are the keys to happiness and success? And is that something that’s actually attainable in life?

There are 7 essential keys to happiness and success that will help to materialize both those things in your life.

1 — Gratitude

Happiness and success are preceded by gratitude. We need to happily succeed rather than try to succeed to be happy. Success should not breed happiness. Happiness should bread success. Once we’re happy, and we’re doing something we love in life, success becomes a byproduct. However, when our happiness hinges on our success, good things never come.

It’s also a matter of focus. What are we focused on in life? What do we want the most? And what are the reasons for focusing on and wanting those things? When we focus on what we don’t have, we live in a state of lack. We realize just how much we’re missing out on or how much we lack the resources to do the things that we really want.

2 — Be Present

There’s nothing like getting caught up in the past or constantly worrying about the future that more than ruins the present moment. But, then again, many of us have trouble simple being present. We’re unable to appreciate the here-and-now. Usually, we’re more worried about what will happen tomorrow or what happened yesterday rather than stopping and being present.

But what does it mean to be present? And why is this one of the keys to happiness and success? Well, similar to the simple act of gratitude, being present grounds us in the moment. We stop to appreciate the miracles that exist in every direction we look, the beauty of all the things around us, and the journey that we call life. It helps us transcend the fears of tomorrow and the regrets of yesterday.

3 — Manage Time Effectively

One habit that will influence both your happiness and your overall success in life, is the ability to manage time effectively. Effective time managers have a handle on their obligations in life, and know just how to juggle things in order to get ahead. They focus on their long-term goals and prioritize the activities that will help move them forward instead of leaving them behind.

When we don’t effectively manage our time,we increase our likelihood for stress, anxiety, fear, and worry. We get so caught up in the day-to-day act of responding to life’s stressers, that we’re unable to preemptively tackle the things that will help to avoid crises and emergencies in the future. We miss bill payments, forget about meetings, and fail to organize our activities to pursue our long-term goals.

4 — Set SMARTER Goals

Often, what holds us back from achieving success in life, whatever we might define that as, is our inability to set goals the right way. In a recent study, it was determined that only 8% of people who set goals on New Year’s Eve actually achieve them. But beyond just those New Year’s goals, we all know that many people often set goals but don’t achieve them.

Surely, you’ve set a goal in the past and you gave up on it. All of us have. But, it’s the goal-setting process that got in the way. When we set passive goals, in that we don’t actually set the goals on paper and don’t define them out in detail, nor create a plan for their attainment, we tend to either fail or give up on it. But for people who set goals the right way, the SMARTER way, success is far more attainable.

5 — Embody an Empowering Morning Routine

Everything begins and ends with an empowering morning routine. What you do in the morning, sets the pace for the rest of the day. In turn, it dictates the outcome of your life. If you want to be happy and successful, create a set of habits in the morning to help foster that in your life. The right combination of habits executed day-in and day-out can make all the difference.

We’re such creatures of habit, that we forget to do the things that will benefit of our lives because we get caught up doing the things that we’re so used to. We’re steeped in habit and routine, and not necessarily ones that serve us. Usually, we’re too busy responding to life and its overwhelming demands on us, in order to take the bulls by the horn, so to speak.

6 — Tackle the MITs

MITs, also known as the most important tasks of the day, are an integral part of success. They offer one of the most crucial keys to achieving our goals in life over the long term. It’s not always easy to go after the MITs, especially when we feel so stressed out or overwhelmed by life. But it’s a necessary act if we’re going to get where we need to go.

7 — Focus on Health and Wellbeing

Health and well being are an important part of the happiness-and-success formula, and one of the biggest keys to achieving them both. When we do things to harm ourselves by overeating, over-drinking alcohol, taking recreational drugs, and the like, not only does it have an adverse effect on our bodies, but also on our minds.
