🎉2024🎉

I am so excited to continue sharing how I have been documenting our family.

BIGGEST CHANGE - I have switched from the Project Life App to Canva. There is something so important to me about being able to see and edit projects as a whole. I created templates that still look like PL pocket pages but really appreciate being able to bounce around.

CANVA has given me so much flexibility with my projects. Out of the 5 listed, I have 4 different size projects (12x12, 8x10, 6x8, and 8.5x11).

I have enjoyed watching everyone in this community create and share over the last year, I am now ready to dive back into creating and sharing!

Documenting December • Day 05

I am definitely getting into a rhythm with this project. I have decided that I like the full page of photo(s) on one side and a template on the other. I think it’s a nice balance of white space and photos.

How is your album coming along?

Documenting December • Day 04

I didn’t have a photo for the story that I wanted to tell (about appreciating traditions) so I included a photo from when the kids were little (2011).

Documenting December • Day 3

Julia has the opportunity to be a Christmas Elf and help little ones shop for their parents! She had so much fun!

It’s hard for me to accept that she is not the “little” one anymore!

Documenting December • Day 2

My DD albums tend to be 25 holiday stories rather than events happening on specific days. We decorated our big tree the day before Thanksgiving but I knew that I would include it! There are no rules in documenting!

Whew, it’s been awhile. What better time to jump back into sharing my documenting journey than in December???

As much as I absolutely love hybrid, I am not in a season of life where I can make time for it. So this year I am making an 8x10 digital book using templates (and maybe a few more along the way) and digitalis from this season. I plan to keep it simple and to the point.

I can’t wait to follow along with all of your projects this season!

EASTER Sunday

Easter is one of my favorite holidays (for lots of reasons) but one being that I love all of the family traditions that come along with it!

I hope you all (who celebrate) had a wonderful Easter! If you have not documented your festivities yet, I highly recommend you take a look at Easter collection for this year. The minimalistic design lends itself to allow your brightly colored spring photos to shine!

SACRIFICE and SERVICE

I have been blessed. When I think of sacrifices that I have made in my life, my list is short. The obvious sacrifice that comes to mind is giving up a career to be a stay at home mother. I hate saying saying it that way because it sounds like I wish it were different, which is far from the truth. But there was a day when I dreamed of an office in a high rise building and tailored suits. As a child, I watched many around me struggle. Low paying jobs, paycheck to paycheck. I knew from a young age that it was my life’s goal to not live like that. I was the first from my family to get a bachelor’s degree, with aspirations to continue my education.

But then God reminded me that I don’t always have the best plans. I was blessed with two healthy babies (just 19 months apart) and very quickly knew that my role as mother was now my number one priority. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be present in their lives with little distractions. So when I think about my biggest sacrifice, I can help but also think about my biggest blessing.

My app is keeping my head above water with documenting events weeks later. My number one piece of advice while choosing to document your family’s stories is to keep a journal. This isn’t new to many of you but it’s worth saying again!

WEEK 6 | inserts

Most of week six, my daughter and I were traveling. There were too many photos to include in my weekly layout so I decided to include inserts. Often, each insert is about a single event that happened throughout the week (one that had lots of photos that I wanted to use).

What do you do to include multiple photos?

1. Organize photos into folders
2. Edit photos
3. Insert photos into “pockets” using the PL App
4. Insert white cards into journaling spaces
5. Airdrop page to my MacBook
6. Add journaling in Photoshop Elements

WEEK 6 | right

The right side of my layout is usually the end of our week. This is an example of minimal photos, so this page became all about one day.

My #1 tip for a family yearbook album is to be flexible. Always remember the end goal, to get your stories told, and go from there!

1. Organize photos into folders
2. Edit photos
3. Insert photos into “pockets” using the PL App
4. Insert white cards into journaling spaces
5. Airdrop page to my MacBook

Week 6 | Left

For me, the stories and photos are all I need. I know that decision fatigue is real and for me, keeping the design simple works.

Find what works for you!

1. Organize photos into folders
2. Edit photos
3. Insert photos into “pockets” using the PL App
4. Insert white cards into journaling spaces
5. Airdrop page to my MacBook
6. Add journaling in Photoshop Elements

Easy! The fact that I have been journaling along the way also adds to the ease.

Following the process that I shared earlier today (and I will include in every post this week).

I really am loving the focus on stories for this album.

WEEK 4 - LEFT
2022

I really have to get back in the habit of taking more photos. I am liking the extended journaling that I am including, I am definitely diving deeper into what’s happening in our lives.

How is your album coming for 2022?

*I rarely blur things out in my layouts on here but this one isn’t my story to tell :)*

WEEK 3 • LEFT
2022

I have had a lot fewer photos for January due to us all having CoVid (If you have been following along, we have all four had it now over a 4 week period 🤦🏼‍♀️).

It does feel a bit freeing (at least for a month or two) that we will likely not get it again. I am tired of talking about it 🤣

So instead of all of the kids photos, this week you get Hudson photos (our 4 year old Cavapooshon).

W E E K TWO • L E F T

More words, more stories. This is my goal for 2022. Finding the balance of photos and stories that feels right for me (which will likely be different for you).

This is more than a hobby. I am in the business of preserving of memories and I don’t take that job lightly. What works for each of us will be different but at the end of the day, if the stories are told then we are all doing it “right”.

Do you prefer to document real time or a bit later?

• pros of documenting real time is that I can journal real, authentic emotions from the event.

• pros of waiting is that I have a better idea of the overall story I want to tell.

No real right and wrong here. Quite honestly, I do both 🤷🏼‍♀️, depends on the event and mood.

Family Yearbook 2022
week one • left

To be honest, I am not married to the app for documenting 2022 but there are several reasons that I keep coming back:

1. It’s easy. I can do it anywhere. Carpool line ✅ Orthodontist office waiting room ✅ From my bed at 4am when I can’t sleep ✅

2. It’s consistent. I know my albums don’t have to match. I know that I am creating them for me and no one else. But there is something so satisfying about them all matching!

3. I kind of love all of the dreamy white space it allows me to add!

2022

• family album (similar to years past)
• 6x9 digital blurb books to document small stories in more depth (inspired by )
• 6x8 physical albums for each kid (these will be used to document stories about each child, no real guidance on frequency of these layouts)

• Week in the Life
• Day in the Life
• December Daily
• 1 Sec a Day video project

HOW I PLAN TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

• Allow myself to change my mind. If something isn’t working, change it.
• Remind myself it is okay to use the same photo in two different projects.
• Keep documenting fun. If it becomes less than fun, something about the process needs to change.

Jumping on the train this year. I have had the desire to play with physical product and what Breyer time to play than in December?

I started my album with a layout about our recent trip to Disney (from the perspective of Christmas).

The layout design was inspired by and her spread.

Do you document December differently?
