One of the reasons I was so excited to have my friend and former colleague, Heather Doshay, on the OtherWise Insights podcast was because I know first-hand how amazing she is at recognizing other people's strengths and helping them find the best place to utilize them.
"Spotting Talent" was the perfect topic for her and it was fun to hear her compare her experience as VP of People at Webflow with Ryan Leake's experience as a baseball scouting supervisor for the Houston Astros.

Check out what else Heather has to say on episode 7 of OtherWise Insights wherever you listen to podcasts.

If you want to be more persuasive, listen first!

In our latest episode of OtherWise Insights, journalist and best-selling author, Amanda Ripley, explains how people won't engage with each other's perspectives until they themselves feel heard.

Try it out! Next time you want someone to see things your way, switch gears and try to really understand them. Rephrase what you think they're saying until they say "that's right." Then its your turn to offer your point of view.
Give it a shot and see what happens, then let us know!

For this and other tips on asking better questions and listening, check out www.otherwiseinsights.com or wherever you listen to podcasts.

Part 2 of the "Asking Good Questions" episode is live on the OtherWise Insights Podcast. I *loved* this topic and and were fantastic guests with great tips.

This is an episode I think everyone can benefit from, whether or not you're interested in leadership. Asking good questions, listening, and curiosity are critical skills for all of us, especially the more divided we become in our opinions and perspectives.

As journalist and best-selling author Amanda Ripley says in the clip below, there is actual research showing what happens when people feel heard, and the impact this can have on our conversations and understanding of each other.

Talk about staying calm under pressure!

This is my all time favorite behind-the-scenes moment from the podcast so far. While FBI Agent, Sid Patel, and CEO of Expanse, Tim Junio, and I were recording episode 4 of OtherWise Insights, the FBI's public affairs specialist was listening in. Part way through the episode his wife asked him to remove a 4 foot snake from their backyard... so he did... while on the call!

This is a message we all need to hear right now! Tim Junio, co-founder and CEO of cyber-security company Expanse talks about how important it is to be intentional about self care so that you can sustain your energy during stressful times. Since we are stuck at home right now, many people aren't taking vacations or going to the gym, or practicing their other self-care routines. We are all experiencing environmental stress right now, so even if your normal self-care routines are disrupted, make sure you find new ways to take care of yourself.

What are your favorite routines right now while you're stuck at home? Post it in the comments!

Holly Coombs was one of the youngest ever Production Stage Managers on Broadway. It was fascinating to listen to her talk with Venture Capital partner David Hornik about rolling with the punches.

When things go wrong in a live show, you have to figure out how to adapt quickly so that the audience still has a good experience. What struck me about this episode was the importance both Holly and David place on having a team that complements your skills in order to keep things running smoothly.

As our economy continues to change, I found it helpful to hear Venture Capital Partner, David Hornik, talk about his experience with cycles in the market. His optimism and storytelling are inspiring!

As he says, "The market will come back, humanity will come back, theater will come back. The only question is when will it come back, and in what form?"

Listen to him talk with Holly Coombs, Broadway Stage Manager for Mean Girls, about adapting when things go wrong.

Right now in America, issues of race and racism are having a spotlight shined on them in a way that is long overdue. We all know that news cycles are fickle, and this cause deserves all the attention it can get while people are listening.

So, with deep appreciation of the support you have all shown me, and respect for the conversations we're having, I'm not going to release a podcast episode this week.

If you're looking for something to listen to this weekend, a few options you could check out include "Code Switch," or "Yo, is this racist?"
