WeahOutCampaign Press Statement for immediate release!
WeahOutCampaign sympathizes with former Chief Justice Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott, for the loss of her daughter and calls on the Liberia National Police to show independence and neutrality in the ongoing case and ensure that Justice is served to this grieving family; condemns the chairman of the CDC, Mulbah Morlu, for his reckless statement made against Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott; demands the opposition community organize a joint civil disobedience against the Weah-Led government with the sole purpose of putting an end to the many unaccounted mysterious killings across the country, the high level of insecurity, intimidation, and witch-hunting of critics of the Weah-Led government; send a caveat to the National Election Commission (NEC) to be very cautious about the various dates for voter's registration across the country;
Fellow Liberians, to our dismay, the entire nation got up to terrible news of an alleged arm robbery attack on the home of former Chief Justice Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott left her daughter gruesomely murdered on February 23rd, 2023. This news was not only shocking, but it left many aggrieved and disappointed in the Liberia National Police (LNP) for the level of negligence after Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott had earlier reported arm robbery attack and threat to her life to the police on two separate occasions. As millions of Liberians mourn the death of Charloe Musu, we want to join them to extend sympathy to Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott and her family for the unfortunate loss of their daughter. This and the many mysterious murders across Liberia should have never occurred had we had a very serious Leadership and an effective and efficient security sector. However, we want to caution the Liberia National Police-LNP that we are following up with this case and this case should not be business as usual. At this point and approaching elections, the least we expect from the security sector of this country is for citizens to live with fear and insecurity. Therefore, we, WeahOutCampaign demand Justice. Justice void of foul play as you, the Liberia National Police-LNP have created fears among citizens and made the public create suspicion, and such is at the detriment of the state.
WeahOutCampaign condemns CDC chairman, Mulbah Morlu, for his reckless statement made against Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott. Speaking to the press on Thursday, March 2, 2023, Mulbah Morlu made some flimsy statements that "The late Charloe Musu was not the biological daughter of Cllr. Gloria Musu-Scott. Her real mother is in Maryland county. I am constituting a team to meet with the late Charloe’s mother”, said Mulbah Morlu. This statement was not only reckless, but it was a pure display of ignorance of our cultures and traditions. Maryland like the rest of the 14 Counties of Liberia 🇱🇷, we do not separate our families and this is why the big brother son will refer to his father's junior brother as "Dad" such that you Mulbah Morlu, who has departed his cultural and traditional lineage would consider as your 'Uncle'. This is something we understand, but what we, WeahOutCampaign will not condone is disrespecting Cllr. Scott, who struggled so hard to give a future to Charloe Musu, by educating her and doing almost everything for her before her death. This is not politics and you, Mulbah Morlu should've known better.
Fellow Liberians, the level of insecurity, intimidation, and witch-hunting of critical opposition voices since the inception of Weah, into office is something that we all can easily relate to, but the current wave of insecurity, intimidation, and witch-hunting of critical opposition voices in the wake of elections is alarming and such a concern should claim the attention of every well-meaning Liberian. To this point, the opposition community who wants to claim state power and has promised the Liberian people a better country and a decent government should now begin to give hope to our people and ensure that their security remains Paramount. And to do this is by staging a very serious, pragmatic civil disobedience as a wake-up call to President Weah and his gang. The everyday press releases and press conferences, the laissez-faire and the white-color attitude of the opposition community on these very critical and concerning issues are not helpful, it means absolutely nothing to Weah and his gang, and such an act is giving Weah hope and the false sense of ragging the forthcoming election. This needs to end now.
Nevertheless, we, WeahOutCampaign believes that to ensure a level plain field in the upcoming elections, the opposition must jointly stage a radical protest action and put Weah in perspective. Against this backdrop, we, WeahOutCampaign are calling on the opposition community to immediately effect stage a mass civil disobedience against the Weah-Led government and inspire hope in our people.
As the October 10th, 2023 elections approach, the National Election Commission (NEC) has published timetables for the voter registration exercise. According to the National Election Commission (NEC), the voter registration exercise will begin on the 20th of March in six of the 15 counties of Liberia, representing phase one.
The six Counties are Gbarpolu and Bomi. Cape Mount, Margibi, Bassa, and Montserrado, and phase one will run from 20 March to 9 April.
While phase two will run from 21 April to 11 May with the rest of the other nine Counties including B**g, Nimba, Lofa, Grand Gedeh, Maryland, River Gee, River Cess, Sinoe, and Grand Kru Counties.
What these timetables suggest is that the voter's registration exercise for phase one which includes Montserrado County with almost two million population will last for just 21 days and not even a month or two and the same with phase two which also captures Lofa, B**g, and Nimba Counties with the population of little over 300,000, 400,000 and 600,000 respectively. Well, we do not know whatsoever what informed this decision, but what we can say to this effect is that the stipulated time (21 Days) for voter registration with little or no publicity is not enough. We are calling on the NEC to readjust from 21 days to at least 30 days (a month) for the voter registration exercise or better stay revert to our normal timetable of almost two months for voter registration. With this, almost if not all, but the majority of our people will be able to participate in the voter registration exercise. Let's not create an excess burden on our already struggling people who are constrained by the terrible state of our economy.
