Today, Valentine’s Day, we are bringing you a Wicked, Weird, and Grim treat: we’re going to talk about a man who literally loved his family to death.

The Burari Ritual Deaths were a mass suicide/murder/manslaughter(?) event amongst the Chundawat family in 2018 in India, with 11 of their family members found dead; 10 by hanging and 1 by strangulation. The case is passably well-known in the true crime world, more so in India. Our special guest, Shreetoma, is back to guide us through this haunting tale.

Perhaps most well known for bathing in the blood of young girls to maintain her youth and beauty, we discuss the fact that there is no actual evidence pointing to her ever doing this. So just how much of Elizabeth's fame is fabricated, purposefully or otherwise? From her reputed social work for the women of her domain affected by the Ottoman invasion to the horrific torturous acts she supposedly carried out, we describe the varied tales of Elizabeth, her ambiguous nature, and her sociopolitical background that may have encouraged others to implicate her.

This case hits especially close to home for us because it is so close to our local area, having happened in Shelby, North Carolina. Caroline particularly remembers the disappearance of Asha because of how much she related to the little girl. Modern sightings of Drekavac
Though the creature is used in precautionary tales for children, there are adults who still believe in its existence. According to the guide of a reporter of Duga magazine, numerous villagers on the mountain of Zlatibor report seeing it, and many inhabitants claim to have heard it.
Some modern sightings happened:
In 1992, it was reported that in the Krvavica, the villagers found remains of an animal unlike any known from the area, and claimed it was a drekavac. It was described as looking like a dog, but with a "snake-like" head and hind legs "similar" to those of a kangaroo. Later, it was revealed to be just a rotten carcass of a fox;
In 2003, in the village of Tometino Polje near Divcibare, a series of attacks on sheep occurred, with some villagers concluding that they had been perpetrated by a drekavac. Other villagers disagreed, seeing as the attacks took place in the daytime, as opposed to night, when the drekavac is supposedly more active.

Ara gives heartfelt apologies for the break in episodes but, in her defense: "Grad School is chaotic". This week, we get truly Wicked, Weird, and Grim and set the dark-academic scene at University of St Andrews, Scotland to discuss their haunts, spectres, and ghostywosties (technical term). Ara describes first-hand accounts from St Andrews locals and students, usually from loitering around cemeteries, ruins, or tagging along so often on ghost tours that the tour guides have given up trying to get her to leave. Caroline professes her general love for Scotland and continues the longtime practice of questioning Ara's sanity. Stick around to hear us mispronounce Scottish words (Ara has no excuse at this point) and stay til the end for our infamous bloopers.
