"If you’re like me, you want your writing to be God-centered and focused but worry that you might come off as preachy or sounding superior. You want to write about God and His greatness and love, but you don’t know how to do it without coming across as inaccurate or seeming unfounded. Either you write too much, trying to explain something you’re not sure everyone will understand, or you start writing a sermon instead of a chapter."
Wanna know how to tackle those problems and change your writing for the better? Kaytlin Phillips has three phenomenal tips for focusing your writing on God without coming off as condescending or preachy!
Check out her guest post here: https://skysthelimitpress.wixsite.com/home/post/3-tips-for-focusing-your-writing-on-god-without-being-condescending-article-by-kaytlin-phillips

It's my great honor and pleasure to share with y'all this amazing, inspirational article by Kayti Phillips! Have you ever been in the place where you want feedback on your writing, you want people to tear it a part and give you their best critique. But then, when you actually give it to them and you see the edits and critiques start coming in, you cringe. You feel like a horrible writer. Why didn’t you think to word that sentence like that? Or, why didn’t you know to put that comma there?
It can be discouraging. But as writers, it’s something we need to learn to push through and learn to accept. Feedback is one of the most beneficial tools for writers, it’s a key element for us to grow in our craft.
So how can we learn to accept critique with grace? How do we learn to not cringe every time someone makes a suggestion for our story? How do we become tough enough that we don’t shut down when feedback is given?
Allyson Jamison, our guest writer, answers all these questions and provides you with a step-by-step guide to accepting feedback with grace in her article on The Story Column! If you're like me and you struggle with constructive criticism, you'll love the tips she shares!

It is my immense pleasure to share with y'all our first ever guest article (and *coughs* first article in a while on here), by the lovely Allyson Jamison! This young writer and blogger is full of wisdom and insight about writing, editing, and more! I've loved reading her advice in the past few month...

It was a HUGE honor for us to have Selah Award-winning author Hannah Linder contribute to our first issue of Sky's the Limit Literary Journal! This young Barbour author gave us some amazing advice for querying literary agents, and this was one of our favorite quotes!
"You’re not alone in the journey, fellow writer. Put the work needed into making these steps, even if they are just stepping-stones. Dance over them every once in a while. And above all, pray for the Lord to guide you and your future agent together, in His time. No time is better than that."

NEW SHORT STORY!
On the blog today, we have young writer Lydia M. Jupp with her story "A Girl's Best Friend"!
Deborah Jane had lain in bed all day, her pillow wet with tears and her feet refusing to move. Her pet wolf climbed up beside her, trying to offer comfort, but Deborah’s eyes teared up when she saw him.
I must get up, Deborah argued with herself. They’ll take Timber if I don’t get him out of here. Staggering out of bed, Deborah got ready to go. She could hardly look at Timber as she got into the car, ready to take him to the Caring Paws Wolf Sanctuary. While driving, Deborah’s thoughts went back to the tragic night when she was told that she had to give her Timber up.
Finish the story in today's post!

"I have learned the true stance of a gunfight—to keep my eyes fixed straight ahead on God and not look to the right: contest wins, book sales or good reviews—or to the left: not finaling in contests, low royalties and scathing reviews and above all else, guard my heart."
What an honor it was for us to have award-winning author Julie Lessman share some of her best tips for both writers seeking publication and newly-published authors in our first issue of ! Her wit, wisdom, and plentiful experience is incomparable in equipping writers for life as a published author!
If you're currently seeking publication, just published, or polishing up your novel to start querying...then Julie's article (and the rest of the amazing articles) in Sky's the Limit Literary Journal will no doubt help and inspire you in many ways as you embark upon this exciting journey!

Cover letters...they can make or break your submission to myriads of publishers, from short story contests to big-name magazines. Crafting the perfect one can be a daunting task, which is why we've broken down a writing cover letter into manageable steps and have defined each necessary aspect of a cover letter in our post on The Story Column!

You know, there’s one thing missing from Sky’s the Limit Press...and that’s cover letters. We don’t require them at this stage—in fact, we currently require minimal formatting or, well, anything from our writers but their writing. Are we being too lazy and informal to inspire professionali...

In our first issue of The Journal, Hannah Linder shared all about agents and Issabelle Perry gave some fantasy advice on handling rejection...so we thought this was a great time to discuss the art of querying!
Querying is an easily mastered art form, believe you me. My first try, I succeeded, and since then I’ve become an internationally-lauded professional, apprenticing thousands in how to send a long but vague email, including your full, unedited first draft, out to the first email address you find on a publisher’s website.
I can see seven mistakes just in that one last sentence there. Can you?
For starters, querying isn’t easily mastered. It takes time and practice, and I learned that the hard way, so instead of forcing y’all to repeat my amateur mistakes, I’m going to walk you through everything you need to know about querying, from The End to Sincerely, Brand-New Author!
