Response to "Enforce the law evenhandedly"
"In God We Trust." What beautiful words. It is our National Motto, even on our currency. I find it appalling that anyone can find this so offensive that they must vent openly. Well, I can vent too. No American proud of his/her Country, flag and heritage would utter such provocative nonsense as C.D. Church recently did. Your name must torture you, C.D.
Church, in my opinion, welcomed Avalanche readers to the Leftist world of atheists who don't like America, so would never embrace its greatness. America is the most kind and generous nation the world has ever known - because of its faith in God, not Godlessness.
Church's ignorance says, "The Constitution does not recognize a God, much less a Christian one." That is so laughably false but typical of the Left. They count on unknowing masses to assume, because they saw it on TV or in print, it must be true. Sadly, it works. Church, you say "counties have no religion." Well counties are parts of this great religious nation I'm about to talk about.
The U.S. Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution will forever be inextricably linked. Simply put, the former (foundation) explains WHY we exist as a nation, the latter (added on) explains HOW we exist as a nation. Our founders' intent was crystal clear to those without hidden agendas.
The foundation of our government is built around "Natural Law," a God-centered world viewpoint of that time. "Natural Law - Laws of the Creator." Sam Adams in a 1794 letter to the Massachusetts Legislature said, "In the supposed state of nature, all men are equally bound by the laws of nature, or to speak more properly, the laws of the Creator."
The Declaration mentions God four times. 50-52 of the 55 men at the Constitutional Convention were known church-goers. Many were very active church leaders. But after several weeks of non-results, Ben Franklin (not highly religious) asked them how is it they had forgotten together to seek God's help? He got them all to pray in church on July 4th.
Biblical quotations comprised 34% of all source material offered by the founders. The Supreme Court in our first hundred years boldly declared, "Christianity was a part of the common law of the land." My info comes largely from the "Times Record News" of Wichita Falls 8/4/12. I know nothing will sway CD Church's mind. He or she matters not. I just cannot tolerate deliberate misinformation constantly being spewed without ignoramuses being exposed.
It seems these days no one can have a differing opinion or lifestyle anymore without being in-your-face confrontational. We all know too well "The squeaky wheel gets the grease." But we have become a nation of victims, whiners and complainers. It gets tiresome listening to "Look at me, read me, I am the center of the universe. We have become morally bankrupt, welfare-minded, so lazy in mind and body that it now seems foreign or extreme for someone to simply and humbly say, "In God we trust." For our County Sheriff to print it on patrol cars, I think is neat.
As a veteran and proud American I admire and respect Sheriff Kirk Wakefield for being openly proud of his Country and his faith. CD Church, you obviously also know nothing about "the law" you say our sheriff is violating. Maybe you should thank God our founders made the very first Amendment "Freedom of Speech" so malcontents like you can sputter, vent and accuse, no matter how ignorant and foolish it is.
Surely, Church, you can't possibly be inferring our Christian Sheriff would be out targeting suspected atheists so explain your puzzling remark, "In God we trust" on sheriff cars "sends a chilling message that the department itself enforces religious doctrine." Are you paranoid?
What is "chilling" to me, Church is how police officers all over this land are increasingly being ambushed and murdered, maligned and spat on in absolutely alarming numbers. Our first-responding heroes are now readily cast as villains by this administration, and national media that support organized riotous jerks everywhere.
May I ask the rational rest of you a couple of questions? Be totally honest. Regardless of your faith or lack of it, if pulled over, would you rather plead your case to a Christian sheriff or an atheist sheriff? 2nd: If you met two strangers and suddenly had to trust one with all your money or your very life itself and one was revealed to be a priest, would you even bother to consider the other? If the other said he was an atheist, honestly, would you atheists out there pick him over the priest? There must be a reason. Cherish what little is left of our Christian nation, folks, and thank you Sheriff Wakefield. Phil Faustman
