Norris Tennis Initiative to host Christmas Tournament

Great boost for Children as Norris Tennis Initiative has announced the staging of a daylong Christmas Tennis Tournament.

The Tournament will feature under 14 boys and girls.

It will take place at the famous Invincible Sports Park in Monrovia on Saturday, 23 December.

The Chief Executive Officer of Norris Tennis Initiative, Norris Ben is calling on humanitarian organizations, philanthropists, and well-meaning Liberians to help sponsor the program.

He said several prizes will be given to deserving winners at the climax of the competition to best-performing players in both male and female categories.

In order to Rescue the Sports Writers Association of Liberia (SWAL), we have brought these great personalities forward. They have come from the Integrity team embedded with lot of positives which is highly supported by majority members of our organization (SWAL). Many of our veteran sports journalists have started sending us congratulatory messages because of the decision we made by bringing these people forward to redeem our noble organization and resuscitate its sanity both locally and internationally. And we told them that we are not in this alone but for the image of the organization.

While we still awaiting the election on December 9, 2023, my WhatsApp, messenger and direct messaging lines are all full with congratulatory messages from both public and veteran sports journalists.

Flames completed final training session ahead of Lone Star encounter on Friday

Malawi Football delegation comprised of players, technical staff and administrators is expected in the country, tomorrow, Tuesday for their opening match with Liberia for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The Flames, as they are affectionately called, completed their last training session on Monday at the Bingu National Stadium before their trip.

The delegation left Kamuzu International airport in Lilongwe at 16hours GMT and will spend a night in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia before proceeding to Liberia on Tuesday.

The match will take place on Friday, 17 November at the SKD Sports Complex in Paynesville at 4pm.

Meanwhile, Lone Star Coach, Ansu Keita has released a 23 man squad ahead of the encounter including 17 foreign based and 7 locally based players.

Some of the notable names includes: Williams Jebor, Murphy Oscar Dorley, and Sampson Dweh both playing in Czech Republic, Joel Johnson, Seth Herbellert, Mark Parbai, Tonia Tisdell, among others.

The Lone Star of Liberia will also be at home to Equatorial Guinea on Monday, 20 November.

Home based Lone Star senior team complete another practice session on Tuesday at the SKD practice pitch in Paynesville City ahead of the CHAN qualifiers.

During Tuesday's session, Coach Ansu Keita’s boys drew 0-0 with a Second Division side, Black Man Warrior FC in a practice match.

Liberia Taekwondo Federation receives materials from partners ahead of it's National Championship

The Liberia TaeKwondo Federation has received 16 pieces of TaeKwondo body protectors from the Executive Director of Go Team Liberia, GTA.

The materials are intended for the up coming Championship beginning this Saturday, May 20 to 27, 2023, at the SKD Sports Complex Gymnasium in Paynesville.

Liberia Taekwondo Federation President Master Junior Pewee Russian thanks Go Team Liberia for the gesture on his official page.

Meanwhile, this competition is the first in the history of Liberia for first time in over ten years.

Stakeholders of the iberia National Handball Association have elected new breed of officials to steer the affairs of the institution for the next four years.

They were elected at an Elective Congress held in Harbel Margibi County on May 14 and 25, 2023.

Those elected are: Mr. J. Aratus Larkpor, President, Mr. Varney Kawah, Vice President for Administration, and Mr. Samuel A Hasay, Vice President for Operations.

Others are: Mr. Hadji Musa A Sesay, Secretary General and Mrs. Deborah G. Hiama, Treasurer.

Liberia's Amputee National Football team head Coach, Victor Benson completed another training session ahead of the 2023 Amputees Nations Cup.

The 2023 edition of the tournament will take place in Cairo, Egypt beginning November 3-9.

Liberia has record three titles, runners up twice, and a 3rd place finished to have been classified as the most successful country on the African continent.

The Amputee Lone Star is also preparing to participate in the eight nations para games expected to be held in Accra, Ghana from the 3rd to 12th of September this year.

At the climax of the session, the President of Liberia Amputee Football and Sports Association(LAFASA) Cooper George spoke with the players.

Mr. George urged the players to be focused and continued to put their country on the map in terms of amputee football.

Mouctarr Fofana apologizes to Gardnersville

Suspended Gardnersville FC Coach, Mouctarr Fofana has apologized to the club President, Secretary General and Technical Director.

Recently, Coach Fofana was suspended by a 2nd division Club Gardnersville FC for time indefinite without salary following their 4-1 defeat to Paynesville FC.

According to the club statement, his punishment was at the result of his refusal to take instruction from the Technical Director Mr. James Salinsa Debbah.

However, Coach Fofana in conversation with our reporter on Saturday, March 4, 2023, indicated that he when against the rules of the contract by discussing the issues to the press; something which made him to openly apologize to the club.

He added that such situation will longer be repeated while appealed to his bosses to consider his apologizes.

" I'm wrong for going public with this issue and trust me, such will not be repeated anymore, he said".

" I want for my bosses to listen to my cry and forgive me for wrong doing, suspended Gardnersville Coach Mouctarr Fofana appealed to his bosses".

Liberia Football Coaches Association on Thursday kicked off a five day beginner coaching course at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium with several grassroots coaches.

Facilitator, veteran female coach, Eurphemia Wilson drilled the coaches on the various topics: who is a coach, the role of a coach, coaching philosophy, the four components of coaching, warm up procedure, the laws of the game amongst others.

Some of the participants include: Atty Benedict Yarsiah, SWAL member Webster Cassell, World Girls Team Manager Zainah Kamara amongst other.

"We will resist any government official entering the teams dressing rooms at this stage of the County meet, Minister Quamie said"

The Organizer of the National County Sports meet has vowed to resist government officials entering the teams dressing rooms during the second phase of the competition.

Making the disclosure on the Thursday edition of the OK Morning Rush, Deputy Sports Minister G. Andy Quamie acknowledged that any official of government including: Representatives, Senators, Superintendents amongst others should visit their teams while on camp at their various hotels but going to the dressing rooms during matches will not be allowed anymore.

According to Minister Quamie, Government officials entering the dressing rooms in past brought serious embarrassment to both the players and the organizers, adding that, the dressing rooms are only meant for technical people.

The Deputy Sports Minister, is at the same time, urging officials of government to purchase their tickets and avoid using their proximity to enter the stadium along with huge number of their bodyguards.

Quarter final one will witness, Group A winner Rivercess County against Nimba at 2pm while Lofa who also won Group C will take on Grand Bassa at 4pm.

On Sunday, at 2pm former winners, Margibi and Montserrado Counties will engage in quarterfinal three.

1st edition of Serious Relationship Association Sports tournament to kick off very shortly

Thirty-two (32) football and kickball teams in Montserrado are poised to participate in the inaugural edition of a sports tournament under the auspices of a Global Organization, Serious Relationship.

The tournament according to the organizers will begin in early 2023 after the National County Sports meet.

Serious Relationship Association is none profit organization currently operating in 19 countries including Liberia.

The Chief Executive Officer of Serious Relationship, Mr. Patrick Sunny Wolo who is based in the US, told OK Sports Desk on Friday that prices will be given in various categories at the climax of the tournament ranging from individual awards and collective awards.

Mr. Wolo, however said, participating teams will have to first register with the amount of five thousand Liberian dollars as means of expressing their willingness to participate in the competition.

He acknowledged that the Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the football component of the tournament will attend the Union Dualas Football Academy in Cameroon, adding that, their organization has link with the Academy.

Rivercess County Sports Steering Committee on Sunday, 11 December staged its first fundraising rally at a local hotel in Monrovia aimed at generating more funds to fully support the county for the impending National County Sports meet.

During the fundraising rally, a total amount of two hundred eighty-four thousand five hundred Liberian dollars (284,500LD) and one thousand four hundred twenty-five United States dollars (1425usd) were raised.

Of that amount, one hundred thirty thousand Liberian dollars (130,000LD) and six hundred eighty United States dollars (680USD)are in pledges while one hundred fifty-four thousand-five hundred Liberian dollars (154,500LRD) and seven hundred forty-five (745usd) United States dollars was paid on the spot.

The Chief launcher of the fundraising rally Madam Ruth Coker-Collins provided one hundred fifty thousand Liberian dollars as initial contributions.

Meanwhile, Rivercess County are paired in Group-A alongside: hosts Bassa, Cape Mount and Grand Gedeh. They will begin their group A matches against the host on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at the Doris Williams Sports center in Grand Bassa as official opening match of the competition which will be the only match on that day.

The 2022 Spark University Basketball Championship continues tomorrow, Wednesday at the Sports Commission in Monrovia.

In the day’s opening encounter at 3pm, Best Brain International University will take on Cuttington University while United Methodist United will be hoping to collect first when they take on Stella Maris Polythenic University at 4pm.

AME University and Blue Crest College will face each other in the day’s third encounter at 5pm.

The final match of the day will witness, the competition defending champion, AME Zion University against Starz College at 6pm.

AME Zion University 57-49 points United Methodist University, Blue Crest College 47-36 points to Smythe Institute and Cuttington University foil felted to AME University.

The Sports Writers Association Of Liberia In collaboration with the Broadcasters Association is expected to host a day long sports jomboree called: Media Unification day tournament.

The tournament which will kick off at 9AM at the Zubah Town sports pitch is under the theme: "Promoting Unity Through Sports".

In the opening fixture, FEJAL Print will take on FEJAL Electronic in a heated kickball match.

The second match will witness Telecel against DJs Association.

Later in game three, E- Mission Press Corps will take on the Judicial Reporters while Broadcasters will sorthings out with Legislative Reporters in game four.

Comedian will however, Interface with Value Boys Association before the battle of Titans between Willie Togba's Reporters Association of Liberia takes on the most powerful Sports Writers Association of Liberia (SWAL) in the tournament final match.

The 5th edition of Spark University Championship is expected to kickoff on the 4th of November, beginning with Basketball.

The competition is being created with the sole purpose of promoting sports at the level of the University.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of Spark group of Companies, Aaron Nyemah, the institution is anticipating to have more sporting disciplines in every edition base on the number of sponsors.

He acknowledged that only Basketball, kickball and football are being played since the foundation of the competition, because of the poor support towards the tournament.

Sports Commission on Broad Street in Monrovia is currently undergoing massive renovation ahead of the impending University Basketball Championship.

According to the schedule, the championship will begin on the 4th of November of next month.

The project is under the supervision of Spark Group of Companies in collaboration with the Liberia Basketball Association (LBA).

The 5th edition of Spark University Championship with Basketball, Football and Kickball is expected to kick off on November 4, 2022, in Montserrado County featuring over ten institutions beginning with basketball.

The 4th edition of the basketball category was won by the AMEZU while Smythe won the Football and Kickball categories.

The Universities that expected to participate in the competition are: Cuttington University, University of Liberia, Best Brain International University, Blue Crest University, Smythe College, Adventist University of West Africa, Starz College, United Methodist University, African Methodist Episcopal University, Stellar Maries Polytechnic University and African Methodist Episcopal Zion University amongst others.
