Speculation is high that Riot Games’ hit shooter Valorant could launch its mobile version this weekend after being approved for release in China just before Summer Games Fest.
A recent list of Western games approved for release in China includes Valorant: Operation Primal as a mobile title. This follows months of speculation and leaks about the Valorant mobile project, with little official news from Riot Games.
The timing of the approval is significant. This weekend, the Valorant Masters Shanghai tournament takes place, with top teams competing for a $1 million prize. Additionally, Summer Games Fest, which features major gaming announcements, is happening, with Riot Games involved.
The approval in China suggests a near-final version of the game may exist, hinting at a possible reveal and launch soon. However, it could initially launch in China or Asia before expanding to the West, as global launches often start with regional tests.
There’s also the possibility of smaller Valorant announcements or new content for the current act, following delays in releasing new agent Clove. Riot’s Summer Games Fest involvement might also focus on 2XKO, their upcoming League of Legends fighting game.
However, the recent approval of Valorant mobile in China right before these major events suggests a likely reveal of Valorant: Operation Primal in the coming days.
