Eastern Cape, South Africa. Severe droughts take their toll on the area as rivers dry up and all are affected as farmlands and towns find themselves without water. Here in a local rural township, the effects are felt in full force as locals of poorer communities struggle to find drinking water. Weeks without rain have caused all water reserves in the town of 'Aliwal North' to dry up.

Groups of South Africans from neighboring provinces have begun donating and transporting bottled water to be distributed to communities in need.

Kishore Vaswani, a member of Rotary, assists in heading up the water distribution program.

As the water continues to be donated and the basic need for drinking water is being met, the locals of Aliwal North can only hope and pray that rains come soon.

Protests flared across America as people gathered to grieve and demand justice for George Floyd, a 46 year old black man who was killed while in police custody. Demonstrations that began peacefully soon turned violent and dangerous as businesses were looted and a Minneapolis police precinct was set ablaze.

This incident marks the latest in officer-involved deaths.

Incidents like these sparked the rise of the Black Lives Matter Movement who hold protests speaking out against police killings of black people, and broader issues such as racial profiling, police brutality, and racial inequality in the United States criminal justice system.

George Floyd’s last moments, captured by a bystander’s camera, might have stirred the nation to the streets, but this event is a small part of a much larger issue.

Derek Chauvin, the police officer who pressed his knee to Floyd's neck for at least five minutes, was arrested earlier on Friday. But this did little to halt protesters in Minneapolis as demonstrations continue to rage on.

SpaceX is finishing the final preparations to launch its first humans to orbit and perhaps restart human spaceflight in the United States

Two astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley will pilot a brand new seven-seat spaceship called Crew Dragon, the first brand-new spaceship in nearly 40 years, on an experimental crewed test flight.5

Founded by Elon Musk in 2002, SpaceX has worked for nearly a decade in association with NASA to design and build this spaceship. NASA, who in 2011 retired their last space shuttle have invested more than $3.1 billion with the hope of launching astronauts from US soil once again.

The crews mission known as Demo-2 will be to fly to the International Space Station, dock with a football field-sized laboratory and stay up for 110 days before returning home to earth.

If all goes according to plan, the astronauts should lift off atop a Falcon 9 rocket at 4:33 p.m. Eastern Time on Wednesday, May 27 from Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

To prevent a lack of food in the nation a Vietnamese entrepreneur has invented a 24/7 automatic dispensing machine providing rice free of charge for those affected by recent events.

Handicapped individuals are given rice parcels seperately and do not have to stand in lines

All rice being distributed is sourced from donations by benefactors. Although this solution has been efficent in preventing a large number of individals from being without food, there are still some who remain in need.

In townships like Thembalethu in South Africa the economic effect of Covid-19 is felt in full force. As children who previously relied on schools and aftercare programs as a source for food now find themselves unfed. Organizations such as Life Community Services handle the severe lack of food in poorer communities during this Covid-19 crisis. While the entire nation of South Africa has been on lockdown, aid workers have been managing food distribution programs in and around communities affected by poverty by feeding up to 600 children daily at various distribution points.

As the number of Covid-19 cases within South Africa increases, serious measures are undertaken to prevent the spread of the virus. Teams of emergency service Workers tasked with the decontamination of public transport vehicles work tirelessly focusing their enegry on high density areas.

Here in Thembalethu township a combination of firefighters and emergency volunteers handle the decontamination of local homes and public toilets as the first case of Covid-19 was announced within the township.

With the uncertain future surrounding South Africa's extended lockdown it would seem that their work has just begun.
