"Someone asked me "What is the worst you expect from a second Trump presidency?" and I replied "Literal concentration camps for migrants, immigrants, asylum seekers, drag queens, LGBTQ, and political activists," and they just sort of chuckled like "Wow you are unhinged."
Then I told them "I actually expect violence and a second coup attempt if Trump loses," and, again, polite almost eye roll.
Being someone who actually studies history is often frustrating. I understand that it is hard to accept. It is almost incomprehensible to most people, and our first instinct is to assume everything will work out.
History doesn't repeat, but it rhymes, and we know how this story goes. You need to be getting ready to leave, or getting ready to survive, maybe even fight, what is almost certainly coming. The pieces are being put into place.
I wish I was exaggerating or joking. I know this sounds alarmist, insane, hyperbolic.
There are a lot of smarter, more educated people who are saying the same thing. People who study exactly this sort of thing. Recognized experts in the field.
The right has openly declared a big part of their plan with Project 2025. Legislatively, there have been several rulings in the last few years, culminating with this presidential immunity. The police have been militarized, precedents have been set, and law enforcement already sees the general population as enemy insurgents - it is part of their training and culture. Law enforcement is already working with civilian militia and extremist groups.
They already tried a coup once, and there have been no meaningful consequences or changes in response.
We have seen this before.
There will almost certainly be another, probably successful coup attempt, and/or widespread violence in the near future. Waiting until it happens is too late. At the very least, get some emergency supplies together.
I hope I am wrong, but history says I am not.

"Actually, the consolidation of wealth by a small group of people is a big problem for everyone. Part of the current issue is that corporations, who's majority shareholders are billionaires, are grabbing up loads of private residential properties and driving the cost of living through the roof. Another problem is that some of these billionaires also own monopolies which legitimately decreases people's abilities to run successful small businesses. Unregulated capitalism is a big problem for everyone except the very top percentage of people who control most of the assets. Telling people that it's not is kind of gaslighting them."
