Steve Jobs tried to treat his pancreatic cancer with alternative medicine — and it may have sent him to an early grave. For several months after his diagnosis, the Apple co-founder tried to cure his disease with a vegan diet, acupuncture, herbs, bowel cleansings, and other remedies that he found online. At one point, he even sought help from a psychic.

Though his doctors had pleaded with him to undergo surgery, it took him nearly a year before he finally agreed. By that point, his cancer had already spread to the tissues surrounding his pancreas. Jobs later regretted his decision to delay treatment, saying, "I really didn't want them to open up my body, so I tried to see if a few other things would work." But all he could do was continue treating his disease as it progressed. And when he died, he was just 56 years old.

On September 30, 1999, Hisashi Ouchi was exposed to the highest dose of nuclear radiation in human history. A 35-year-old lab technician at the nuclear plant in Tokaimura, Japan, Ouchi was mixing a uranium solution by hand directly over an open container when he accidentally poured in too much uranium, immediately causing a violent explosion.

For the next 83 days, Ouchi suffered unimaginable agony as the radiation worked its way through his body, obliterating his DNA and causing his skin to melt off and his eyes to weep blood before he finally died. And though he begged for death, doctors refused to listen and kept him alive against his will for nearly three excruciating months.

On April 3, 2000, 17-year-old Jeremy Bechtel called his dad from a party and said he was staying the night, then asked for a ride home the next morning. But when Jeremy's dad arrived, his son was nowhere to be found, nor was Jeremy's friend Erin. Friends told Jeremy's dad that the two left together in Erin's car the night before and never came back. For years, rumors swirled about their disappearance. Some said they ran away to Florida, while others said it was a drug deal gone bad. One person even said he saw them in the back of a truck with blood coming out of it. Police followed all these leads and more, but never turned up anything that might help them solve the case.

But this November, a scuba diving YouTuber who works as an amateur investigator on missing persons cases took up the cause — and within days, found the teens' submerged car in a local river, finally putting an end to this disturbing mystery.

His collection is estimated to be worth about $200 million and since 1987, he's owned and traded more than 1,000 antiquities — from ancient Grecian chests to stone death masks from Israel.

And according to law enforcement, Steinhardt got many of his ancient relics by relying on underworld connections like "crime bosses and tomb raiders." On Monday, they effectively shut Steinhardt down, seizing more than $70 million worth of artifacts that will be returned to their home countries — and slapping Steinhardt with a lifetime ban on collecting relics.

On the morning of July 20, 2001, Andrea Yates waited for her husband to leave for work before feeding her five children breakfast and then systematically drowning them in the family bathtub one by one.

She started with her two-year-old, Luke, followed by three-year-old Paul and five-year-old John. After killing each one, she took them to her bedroom and laid them on the bed. Then she came for six-month-old Mary, who she left floating in the tub afterward. Finally, she took seven-year-old Noah to the bathroom. When he saw his newborn sister in the water, the terrified boy tried to run away — but his mother quickly caught him and claimed her final victim. Leaving Noah in the bathtub, she took Mary out of the water and placed her in the arms of John on the bed, then gently tucked them all in with a blanket. On February 16, 2009, 911 dispatchers in Stamford, Connecticut received a call so shocking it took them several minutes to even understand what was happening. Sandra Herold frantically screamed into the phone that her friend Charla Nash was being viciously attacked and eaten alive — by her pet chimpanzee Travis. Herold begged the dispatcher to send police immediately and said they needed to bring guns to shoot the mad chimp. Throughout the entire horrifying call, dispatchers could hear Travis' enraged screams in the background as the attack continued. Finally, emergency services arrived at Herold's home and found Charla Nash completely covered in blood on the ground, her face all but ripped off and her fingers strewn about the ground around her.

When F***y Mills emigrated from England to Sandusky, Ohio in the 1860s, she was a petite teenager of only 115 pounds — but she carried most of that weight in her legs and feet. Mills was a victim of Milroy's disease, which caused her lower legs and feet to swell with lymphatic fluid. Her feet grew to a whopping 19 inches long, forcing her to wear shoes made of three goatskins and to use pillowcases for socks.

But by the 1880s, people with abnormalities like hers could often find work and even fame, as long as they were willing to debase themselves before paying audiences on the "freak show" circuit.

In the early spring of 1939, parents in a remote village in Peru noticed that their 5-year-old daughter’s belly became enlarged. Fearful that the continual swelling was a sign of an abdominal tumor, Tiburelo Medina and Victoria Losea took their little girl from the family’s home in Ticrapo to a doctor far away in Lima.

To their shock and horror, the doctor discovered that their daughter, Lina Medina, was seven months pregnant. Just six weeks later on May 14, 1939, Medina gave birth via c-section to a healthy, six-pound baby boy. At 5 years, seven months, and 21 days of age, she became the youngest girl known to have given birth.
