Media Release from SANParks - Table Mountain National Park TABLE MOUNTAIN USERS ARE REQUESTED TO STAY AWAY FROM THE MOUNTAIN
South African National Parks (SANParks) Rangers had their hands full this morning at their entrances stopping users from partaking in their usual day-to-day activities within the Table Mountain National Park.
This according to SANParks spokesperson Rey Thakhuli who said the park personnel are hard at work trying to put down the fire and most resources are dedicated to the fire… “with users now attempting to go about their normal running, cycling or walking their dogs we will not be able to fully concentrate on the fire especially in the Newlands Forest and Rhodes Memorial zones.”
It is for this reason that we urge users to stay away from the following areas Newlands Forest, Groote Schuur Estate, Rhodes Memorial, Devils Peak, Tafelberg Road, Vredehoek, and Deer Park sections of the park. That includes all recreation areas below and above Tafelberg Road, which will remain closed until further notice.
However, it is safe to still visit areas in the South and Central sections of the park which includes areas Silvermine, Tokai, Boulders, and Cape Point. “Those who would like to access Lions Head and Signal Hill should approach the areas with caution as the emergency personnel are in the area.”
Thakhuli said over 400 hectares of land and growing have been damaged up to this far and over 135 firefighters from SANParks, Working on Fire, City of Cape Town, NCC Environmental Services are currently battling with the fire.
He thanked residents and businesses who have responded to a call for donations of food water, energy drinks. Donations can be dropped off at the Newlands Firebase off the M3 highway or call Pat Scott – for any donations – 079 608 9991.

A budding new cafe opens in Cape Town

Capetonians will be delighted to know that a new cafe has opened and offers customers the chance to delight in all their love for flowers.

Flowers Cafe founded by the Petals Group offers the chance for locals to unleash their inner florists.

While guests are able to wander the flower filled cafe, an on-hand floral designer will be available to help them choose a blooming good arrangement of flowers found within the cafe.

In addition, guests will be able to grab a fresh cup of joe or a delicious pastry as they bask in the green and vibrant filled ambiance of Flower Cafe. Located in Woodstock on 184 Sir Lowry Road, the Flower Cafe is the ideal space to visit.

Starting off guests will be available to visit the cafe on Wednesday to Fridays from 9am to 4pm and on Saturdays from 9am to 1pm.

Flower Walker, founder of Petals Group comments on the launch of the new space

"While COVID-19 may have locked us out of hosting large events for a while, it couldn’t lock us out of helping Capetonians unleash their inner florists in our one-of-a-kind space.”

Adding that guests will be allowed to wonder around the cafe, exploring their creative side through the use of flowers.

“We want guests to be able to create whatever their hearts desire in our Flower Café. We can give guidelines if necessary, but there will be absolute freedom to play,” adds Flower.

The space was created out of the impacts of Covid-19, with the team of Petals Group inspired to reinvent the existing workshop space to create a flower-themed escape for locals.

Covid-19 protocol

In line with social distancing measures, the Flower Cafe Petals Group requests that guests book in advance with a R70 non-refundable booking fee per person. The booking fee will be deductible from your floral purchases made on the day.

Greenery and flowers are priced per stem with guests being able to purchase vases or bring their own on the day.
