Though India became a free nation on August 15, 1947, it declared itself a Sovereign, Democratic and Republic state with the adoption of the Constitution on January 26, 1950.

A salute of 21 guns and the unfurling of the Indian National Flag by Dr. Rajendra Prasad heralded the historic birth of the Indian Republic on that day. Thereafter 26th of January was decreed a national holiday and was recognised as the Republic Day of India.

The Constitution gave the citizens of India the power to choose their own government and paved the way for democracy. Dr. Rajendra Prasad took oath as the first President of India at the Durbar Hall in Government House and this was followed by the Presidential drive along a five-mile route to the Irwin Stadium, where he unfurled the National Flag.

Happy 72nd Republic Day!
Jai Hind! 🇮🇳

Every year, the National Pollution Prevention Day is observed on December 2 to create awareness about the increasing pollution levels and its hazardous effect on human beings and our ecosystem.

The National Pollution Prevention Day was started after the disastrous incident of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy which took place on the night of December 2 in 1984 in which hundreds of people lost their lives after a gas leak was reported at the Union Carbide India Limited pesticide plant in Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal.

The objective of National Pollution Prevention Day is to spread awareness of managing and Preventionling industrial disasters and to prevent the pollution produced by industrial processes or human negligence. The National Pollution Prevention Day 2020 also aims to make people aware of the government's laws that help to contain pollution.

The Kargil War, also known as the Kargil conflict, was an armed conflict between India and Pakistan that took place between May and July 1999 in the Kargil district of Kashmir and elsewhere along the Line of Control (LOC).

Date: 3 May - 26 July, 1999
Location: Kargil district, J&K, India
Result: Decisive Indian victory. India regains possession of Kargil.

In India, the conflict is also referred to as Operation Vijay (Hindi: विजय, literally "Victory"), which was the name of the Indian operation to clear the Kargil sector.

The Indian Air Force's role in acting jointly with Indian Army ground troops during the war was aimed at flushing out regular and irregular troops of the Pakistani Army from vacated Indian Positions in the Kargil sector along the Line of Control.

Our country climbed to Top 3. It is scary. But we need to face it and live with it till we get a vaccine.

What we can do to help contain the virus?
▪️ Take all the necessary precautions to keep yourself from getting infected.
▪️Educate people. There seems to be some people who are just not accepting that this pandemic can prove to be more destructive.
▪️Do not go and mix with your friends. It's hard, but it's necessary.
▪️Maintain social distancing. Don't go out without any reason.
▪️This is very very important. Support your local NGOs. They prove to be very efficient when it comes to help the marginalized.
▪️Encourage your connections to donate money, supplies or even volunteer for the local NGOs.

Help share these basic things which we could do as our contribution towards fighting the virus.

When I was growing up, Rath Yatra was one of the festivals I used to eagerly look forward to. We (the neighborhood kids, a.k.a the organising team) used to decorate a small chariot (this group activity was fun!) and drive it within our neighbourhood. Our neighbours used to come out on the streets, pay homage to the holy siblings, and even donate some money in a small cashbox kept inside the chariot. In return, they used to receive 'nakuldana' and 'batasha' as prasad. Later on, that collected fund was utilised to buy ingredients for 'khichdi', and the organising team used to have a feast!
Sadly, due to the pandemic, the Supreme Court has given directives to not organise the festival this year to avoid large gatherings.
