Angeles City Science High School's (ACSci) Parol-making team was awarded as the division winner of the "Isang Bituin, Isang Mithiin" National Parol-Making Competition last Tuesday, November 5.

Under the guidance of Mr. Alberto A. Sangalang Jr., the student-participants who displayed creativity and excellence in parol are Mikyla Cody Henzon, Maria Daniela Fernando, Ivory Shane Fernandez, and Kate Yanga.

Bringing their winning parol, they are hailed as the representative of Angeles City to compete among 148 entries of parol from various public secondary schools across the Philippines.

In an interview with the team, they revealed that what inspired the parolโ€™s design was the theme itself, as well as the previous lanterns made for the school-based parol-making competitions.

โ€œThe central image of the Nativity reminds viewers of the essence of Christmas, while materials like paper clay from recycled paper, mussel shells, salakots, and broomstick fibers highlight resourcefulness and sustainability. Each element, from recycled glass to traditional Filipino symbols, adds depth and reflects the connection to community, nature, and heritage.โ€ They added, also emphasizing on the use of environment-friendly materials while still showcasing Filipino identity.

The National Parol-Making Competition enters its third consecutive year in 2024, proudly showcasing the artistry and efforts of Filipino students in the making of parol to celebrate the upcoming Christmas season.

Energy was at an all-time high during the school year 2024-2025 Teachersโ€™ Week as the festivities began last October 1, 2024 in Angeles City Science High School (ACSci).

Celebrations began on the 1st of October with a harana prepared by the ACSci Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG) in collaboration with the ACSci Ambassadors of Music (AAM) conducted in the Junior and Senior High School faculty rooms.

In the afternoon of October 2, Wednesday, a teachersโ€™ version of the ACSci Intramurals commenced with a Zumba session for both the Junior and Senior High School faculties followed by games of volleyball and basketball played by and between the Senior High School and Junior High School teachers.

Grade 12 Indomitable Stallionsโ€™ screams filled Angeles City Science High Schoolโ€™s covered court as they clutch a nerve-wracking overall win against their lower counterparts in ACSciโ€™s Intramurals 2024, awarded last Monday after the schoolโ€™s flag ceremony.

With a final score of 230 points, Stallions closely gaited over the Grade 10 Vicious Dragons and Grade 11 Devouring Wolves as the first runners-up and second runners-up, with each having 220 and 195 points respectively.

Awarded first as the queens of chess, Gabrielle Fame Fabian and Maria Dannize Anne San Diego bagged bronze and gold respectively, starting the momentum for the Stallionsโ€™ victorious run.

Maintaining the Grade 12 high for table tennis, Christian Ivan Cunanan was hailed champion for menโ€™s singles, while Jan Jaz Monica Sumastre and Casey Camille Cruz settled for silver in womenโ€™s doubles after falling short from the Vicious Dragonsโ€™ Shane Margarette Atienza and Akemi Julia Beltran.

Meanwhile, Nikhaela Dizon stomped over the competition defeatless with a gold in womenโ€™s singles in badminton, while her male counterpart, Robert Dominique Chico fearsomely put a valiant effort with a silver medal after getting the short end of the stick against the Ferocious Tigersโ€™ champion, Jacob Manalo.

Another bronze medal was added to the Stallionsโ€™ saddle as the womenโ€™s volleyball team, consisting of Nicole Pineda, Sophia Espana, Jossaine Cunanan, Mariel Lazaro, Narelyn Tingson, Nicole Manson, Jersey De Ness, Kate Ellorde, Jera Enriquez, Heart Flores, Maxine Reyes, Chelsea Velasquez, and Faith Velasquez, courageously grappled against champions from the Ferocious Tigers and second runners-up from the Vicious Dragons; team captain Nicole Pineda was also awarded as part of Mythical Six later on.

The lower batches also failed to hold their horses, as the Stallionsโ€™ menโ€™s basketball team set Lourdes Sur Eastโ€™s basketball court ablaze with a gold medal, with Neil Andrew Baluyut being hailed as ACSciโ€™s basketball MVP, and Ysheia Gundayao being awarded as the best point forward; among the athletes that also brought pride to the 12th grade are Renmark Roxas, Antoine Suller, Justin Sarmiento, Ernesto II Punzalan, Ivan Villanueva, Matt Yuso, Adonis Quirante, Jillian Policarpio, Lucas Bondoc, and Joshua Balilu.

Alongside athletes, ACSciโ€™s Mr. and Ms. Intramurals, basketball MVP Andrew Baluyut and Cyrene Gaebrielle David brought honor to the Stallionsโ€™ standing, pushing the batch to a sure victory.

According to Grade 12 Representative Lexterovi Sigua, the key to the success of their batch was the initiative and commitment of everyone involved, emphasizing the skills, creativity, and dedication of everyone, organizers, and athletes, coming together to be united by a common goalโ€”the triumph.

โ€œWorking with my co-batch representative, Lexterovi, was essential to properly organize projects and committees that supported our batch during the intramurals. Despite only knowing the basics of the sport I represented, which is table tennis, I made sure to give my best effort in training, pushing myself to play at my fullest potential to bring pride to my batchmates,โ€ Grade 12 Representative and Athlete Monica Sumastre added.

As the dust of the battle den settles, the now-peaceful animals return to their natural habitatsโ€”the classrooms.

The Indomitable Stallions secured the championship on Day 2 of the Intramurals on September 27, 2024, at the LSE basketball court after defeating formidable opponents along the way.

The Stallions began their championship run by defeating the Devouring Wolves in the first round, 59-56.

The Wolves made a valiant effort, leading for the majority of the game; however, the Stallions managed to sn**ch back the lead in the final minutes.

Earlier, the matchup between the Vicious Dragons and the Soaring Phoenix took place just before the Stallions-Wolves game.

The Phoenix nearly pulled off a stunning 25-point comeback, but Dragons' star player Mimes shut down all hopes and secured the win, 63-61.

Both the Stallions and Dragons breezed through the second round, advancing to the finals with scores of 57-22 and 43-24.

The final standoff took place at 3:16 PM between the Stallions and Dragonsโ€”Stallions maintaining their dominance throughout, steamrolling the Dragons with an overwhelming 74-29 victory.

The final round was a close match, with both teams constantly tying up each otherโ€™s points. With the match being a time constraint, the organizers have decided that the third set be a game of first to 15 points.

This was preceded by the Wolvesโ€™ first round of play against the Grade 8 Ferocious Tigers, with a final score of 21:11.

Other match-ups include the Grade 12 Indomitable Stallions and the Dragons and the Grade 7 Venomous Scorpions with the Phoenix, which all resulted in the Phoenixโ€™ victory.

โ€œIt felt exhilarating to watch our schoolmates demonstrate their talent and skill in the sports of badminton, showing that not only are the students of our school good at academics but also with sports,โ€ says one spectator, who prefers to remain anonymous.

The Grade 8 Ferocious Tigers drew their legacy in the Angeles City Science High School history after striking down their seniors and bringing home the bacon for their batch in the Womenโ€™s Volleyball match.

The semi-finals of women's volleyball kicked off in high-octane fashion, resuming the intense series that had already begun the day before.

In the first game that began not long after the series that granted the Indomitable Stallions their spot in the semis, the Venomous Scorpions faced off against the Vicious Dragons, with the Scorpionsโ€™ sting failing to pierce the Dragonsโ€™ scales as the 10th graders swept the games with 2 quick sets.

The second game of the semi-finals saw the Ferocious Tigers battling for a finals spot against the Indomitable Stallions, with a close first set that ended with the Tigers seizing victory before the 8th gradersโ€™ remarkable ability allowed them to convincingly take control of the second set, stopping the Stallions in their tracks and setting the finals in stone.

The finals between the Ferocious Tigers and Vicious Dragons began as the sun started to set, providing a close match won by the slimmest of margins, but in the end, it was the Tigersโ€™ tenacity and command of the ball that saw them once again taking a series sweep, placing the sportswomen of the 8th grade as the champions for women's volleyball.

With this yearโ€™s intramurals being their last, the Indomitable Stallions proved their determination and passion one final time, by effortlessly securing the championship title of the Womenโ€™s Badminton: Singleโ€™s Category, yesterday afternoon at the ACSci covered court on September 27, 2024.

Hailing from the Stallions, Nikhaela Dizon won the title of champion after facing off with Cherish Faith D. Gatus of the Soaring Phoenix, with a 2-0 set win and consistent lead in scoring.

The Phoenix received the honor of 2nd Place, while Athena Jersey A. Soriano of the Devouring Wolves was able to seal their spot with 3rd place.

During the first round, the finalists were faced with challenging matches that tested their ability, skill, and endurance.

The Stallions swiftly triumphed against the Vicious Dragons, their first opponent of the game.

While the Phoenix won a tough battle with the promising Venomous Scorpions, the Wolves secured a spot against the Tigers who fought ferociously until the very end.

The Tigers demonstrated the ferocity of their team by winning the championship of the Menโ€™s Badminton: Singleโ€™s Category at the ACSci Covered Court on September 27, 2024, the last day of Intramurals.

Jacob J. Manalo from the Ferocious Tigers, truly living up to their team name, won the title of champion, after having defeated the Stallions โ€“ who are now in 2nd Place โ€“ in a 2-0 match.

However, Robert Dominique Chico of the Indomitable Stallions did not go down without a fight and prevailed against Rhian P. Ramos, a new, promising talent from the Scorpions, who secured the spot of 3rd Place.

Prior to the finals, the three finalists found themselves up against challenging opponents who could retaliate their passes and shut down rallies.

The last game included the Stallionsโ€™ victory, having successfully won both sets against the Vicious Dragons.

Clashing in a fierce battle, were the Devouring Wolves and Ferocious Tigers, with the Wolves winning the first set and the Tigers slowly making a comeback to seizing the last two.

Having been given the first badminton game of the day, the Venomous Scorpions faced off against the Phoenix who won the first set and later triumphed with two sets.

The Soaring Phoenixโ€™ representative Louie Nisperos and the Indomitable Stallionsโ€™ Maria Dannize San Diego were hailed as victors in the menโ€™s and women's chess category respectively during the 2nd day of the Angeles City Science High School Intramurals held from September 26 to 27, 2024.

The game began with an intense atmosphere as the 11th graders faced the 8th, and the 10th graders battled the 12th.

In the final game, the Soaring Phoenix soared above the Devouring Wolves in the men's category, while the Indomitable Stallions unstoppable spirit trampled the Soaring Phoenix in the womenโ€™s final.

Through the cheers and yells from every corner, The Vicious Dragons make history by being the champions in menโ€™s volleyball for the school year 2024-2025.

The first round of menโ€™s volleyball concluded with the Devouring Wolves and the Vicious Dragons dominating the court against the Indomitable Stallions and the Soaring Phoenix to move on to the second round.

Vicious Dragons took the first match in their favor with a score of 2-0 against the Soaring Phoenix with the Dragons ruling the court with their fiery performance.

The second match of the first round had the Devouring Wolves taking the crown from the Indomitable Stallions in an exhilarating and close match ending with a score of 2-0.

The final match of the morning between the Venomous Scorpions and the Vicious Dragons for the second round to qualify for finals ended in the Dragonโ€™s favor with a score of 2-0.

Although the match was close and the roars of the crowd were strong, the Scorpions fell to the Dragonโ€™s powerโ€”10th graders sweeping the court through finals.

The games continued in the afternoon with the Devouring Wolves facing off against the Ferocious Tigers wherein the wolvesโ€™ determination to win made the court their den in a match with a score of 2-0, earning them their place in the finals.

The Devouring Wolves and the Vicious Dragons, the two pillars that stood up high in this event are now faced against each otherโ€”starting off with the wolves dominating the competition with the dragons unable to make a point.

Despite this, the next two sets favored the Dragons and they were able to sn**ch the crown from the Wolves, being hailed as the champion for the Menโ€™s Volleyball category.
