Congratulations, Caloy! 🌟
𝐘𝐮𝐥𝐨 𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬 𝐏𝐇'𝐬 1𝐬𝐭-𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐠𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐢𝐧 2024 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐬 𝐎𝐥𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐬

ANGELES CITY, Philippines — A gold medal for PH’s golden boy.

Carlos Edriel Yulo executed a near-perfect floor performance in Artistic Gymnastics, winning him the first gold not only for the Philippines, but the whole ASEAN region, in the Paris Summer Olympics 2024.

Yulo also left Philippine’s mark on the Olympic global stage, as his gold was the country’s first gold medal in Artistic Gymnastics last August 3.

Filling the stadium with a roar, the golden boy breathtakingly stuck his three-and-a-half twist dismount, garnering him the highest scores of 6.60 for difficulty and 8.400 for ex*****on, totaling an impressive score of 15.000.

This score narrowly bested other countries’ bets, including titleholder Artem Dolgopyat (14.966), and Yulo’s “biggest rival”, United Kingdom’s bronze medalist Jake Jarman (14.933).

This triumph rewarded Yulo P3 million from the House of Representatives, said House Committee on Appropriations Chairman Representative Elizaldy Co on Saturday, as a reflection of their support to Yulo and future international athletes from the Philippines.

Having bounced back from his previous placement in the men’s all around (12th), the Filipino king now revs up to be an Olympic two-time gold medalist in the vault final on August 5.

Meanwhile, adding to the glory are EJ Obiena, who is now vying to win gold at the pole vault final on August 6, and Aira Villegas, who is now proceeding to the women’s boxing semi-final on August 7.

𝐀𝐂𝐒𝐜𝐢 𝐤𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐬 𝐨𝐟𝐟 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐝𝐚 𝐄𝐬𝐤𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐚 2024

Angeles City Science High School (ACSci) officially launched Brigada Eskwela 2024 with the theme "Bayanihan para sa Matatag na Paaralan" in a kick-off program prepared by the Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG), school administrators, and Brigada Eskwela coordinators that was conducted last Monday, July 22, 2024.

The beginning of Brigada Eskwela marked the occasion for new improvements to the school’s facilities with John Cayanan, the outgoing Brigada Eskwela coordinator, discussing the need for better washing facilities, drainage control, additional comfort rooms, and ceilings.

Sandy Miclat hosted the ceremony, with the opening prayer led by SSLG President Mary Felicity Ravelo and the welcome remarks given by the school principal, Marjorie D. Lacson.

The first day of Brigada Eskwela was also the day allocated for the cleaning of the eighth and tenth-grade classrooms where Alvin Lopez and Lesley Angeles introduced the grade eight and ten teachers respectively in that regard.

The following days of Brigada Eskwela 2024—expected to last until the 27th, are dedicated to improving classrooms and facilities inside the school in preparation for the school year 2024-2025 with the help of the school’s stakeholders.

Other associated programs, like Brigada Pagbasa—hosted by ACSci’s Language Clubs (ALC), will be resuming in the upcoming days of Brigada Eskwela to assess students’ reading comprehension.

Another program that will be featured during the entirety of the Brigada Eskwela is the “Bigay Aksay Community Pantry” which has been a recurring project by the SSLG wherein donated school supplies will be made available for the entire ACSci community, especially to the students in need of school supplies for the upcoming school year.

In an interview, SSLG Vice President Brouel Ocampo mentioned how the community pantry “started with the idea of community pantries during the pandemic, and now it's a staple with Brigada Eskwela”.

The community pantry includes not only donations of school supplies but also uniforms with its counterpart—“Uni For Me”, where uniforms that are no longer being used by ACSci students can be donated and will be made available to those less fortunate.

Bigay Aksay can be found at the school’s covered court and will remain until the last day of the Brigada Eskwela—July 27, 2024.

Angeles City Science High School wraps up this year’s Philippine International Mathematical Olympiad (PHIMO) and Hong Kong International Mathematical Olympiad (HKIMO) with wins—including being hailed as the “Top Performing School” in both competitions.

Concluding the two competitions by the Math Olympiad’s Training League Inc., an awarding ceremony held yesterday, July 14 at the Tejeros Hall, AFP Commissioners Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City, revealed more trophies for the school and the division on top of the students' wins.

ACSci’s coach, Mylene Balagtas earned the “Outstanding Teacher-Coach Award” wherein she also acknowledged the efforts of the students, saying that she was “happy, proud, and delighted” with their achievements as “they are the reason” why they were able to gain such awards.

Throughout the competitions, ACSci was able to accumulate 31 wins for PHIMO and 55 wins for HKIMO, surpassing the 30-win requirement each for the “Top Performing School” award.

These triumphs also contributed to the Division of Angeles City as they were also awarded as the “Top Performing Division” for HKIMO.

The 3,850 contestants for PHIMO and 2,475 contestants for HKIMO, ranging from Kindergarten to Senior High School from all over Asia showed off their wits and skills in mathematics through both contests held online last April 14 and May 26 respectively, where they adhered to strict guidelines such as a time limit and a designated proctor for fairness.
