🎉 We’re very excited to finally share all nine tracks of our debut compilation “connected” with you! It is extremely important to us to showcase how many highly talented female composers are out there in electronic music. All nine track of this compilation have been composed with modulars synthesizers and explore the extraordinary sonic worlds of Hélène Vogelsinger, Panic Girl, Alissa DeRubeis, Julia Bondar, Anna Wang, Arushi Jain, An On Bast, Yumi Iwaki and Elin Piel. Please dive in and support us if you can: https://iuwerecords.bandcamp.com/

Anna Wang is a pop songwriter, producer, Ableton enthusiast, and synth nerd from Madison, WI. She fell down the modular rabbit hole while in search for the perfect sound, and hasn’t looked back since. Current favorite modules: Sinfonion, Plonk, Tides, Chronoblob, Prism. Listen to her track “Excursion” tomorrow on our Bandcamp.

01/10/2020

The deep and understanding relationship between Anna and her machines is instantly apparent during her performances as she glides effortlessly from modular synthesizer to drum machine via effects units. The results of these performances capture both the audiences ear and eye, immersing and encapsulating them in the entity that is An On Bast. Listen to her track „How And When“ now on our Bandcamp.

30/09/2020

This is what An On Bast says about her composition for i u we records: “The composition and sounds I made in "How and When" are connected with my reflection about being peaceful and comfortable in a state of not knowing. It is about not feeding the worries about what will happen, how and when. Good news is, fear is a choice. Sound design for this track comes from my modular synthesizer - a few drum modules and Verbos Complex oscillator as sound sources, Teenage Engineering OP1, Novation Peak, Roland TR8S and a few external effects. “ Listen to her track now on our bandcamp ✨

30/09/2020

An On Bast is the moniker of electronic music producer and composer Anna Suda from Wrocław, Poland. Her largely improvised concerts, utilising hardware instruments, hop between melodic techno, experimental and ambient genres. 2006 marked the beginning of Anna's illustrious career when her debut album was published and she was subsequently selected from thousands of candidates to participate in the Red Bull Music Academy in Melbourne. Yumi’s inspiring setup. Listen to hear track “Sardonyx” on our debut compilation “connected”, which will be out this friday.

28/09/2020

To celebrate the very first release of our label we decided to give away two of our beautiful cassette tapes including a Bandcamp code for the digital version. All you have to do is like this post, tag two friends in the comments who might also be interested and share it. The winners will be announced next monday. Good luck! https://iuwerecords.bandcamp.com/

28/09/2020

Yumi’s track „Sardonyx“ was recorded like a livejam with her modular synthesizer. Featuring Rings, Plaits, Clouds and Ripples from Mutable Instruments, the Morphagene and STO from Make Noise, Tiptop One and Doepfer A-120 VCF1. Everything was sequenced by Squarp Instruments Hermod. Yumis voice was sampled and sequenced by the OP-1 from Teenage Engineering and then output to Strymon Magneto with other modular sounds. “This song didn't have the title until Panic Girl asked me. I listened to it again and again, then the orange gradation striped pattern that is not regular came into view. So I named this song “Sardonyx”.“ Listen to Yumi‘s composition on our debut release, that will be out this Friday ✨

25/09/2020

Yumi Iwaki is an electric sound artist and lyricist based in Tokyo. She layers sound with her sampled voice, modular synthesizers and small synthesizers particularly OP-1 and OP-Z. As a singer-songwriter, she released two albums in Japan. Listen to her track Sardonyx on our compilation „connected“, that will be released on October 2nd.

21/09/2020

Elin Piel about her composition for our connected compilation in her own words: “Sunday 8 is about insomnia and when days morph into each other. I used a modular Eurorack system only with OTO Machines BIM and BAM as end of chain. The track is recorded live in one take.”

20/09/2020

Elin Piel is a synthesizer enthusiast from Gothenburg, Sweden. Though she’s been making music for most of her life, the love and passion for modular synthesis didn’t arise until late 2016. It started out as a therapy tool to calm a washed out brain but then slowly became a public spectacle with live sets, workshops and lectures. She likes just as much to linger in glimmering ambient worlds, create dark pulsating beats or loop the night away.
We're very proud to have a composition of hers on our debut compilation "connected", which will be out on October 2nd.

This photo was taken from Arushi Jains live performance, where she was warming the stage for Suzanne Ciani on April 13th 2019 at the Mezzanine in San Francisco.

17/09/2020

Arushi Jain about her track “Moksha”: “It is written in Raag Khamaj. I want to encourage my listeners to remember past moments of victory over self-doubt and fear. If my mind had a intervention for itself, this is what it would sound like. The melodies are slightly upsetting, the drifting vocals resonant of thought that is hard to escape, and the slowing pace encouraging of contemplation. Eventually, somehow, all the elements fade into stoic state of self acceptance. Moksha, also called vimoksha, vimukti and mukti, is a term in Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism for various forms of emancipation, enlightenment, liberation, and release. It refers to freedom from saṃsāra, the cycle of death and rebirth.”
Listen to her track “Moksha” now on our Bandcamp page.

Arushi Jain is a San Francisco based sound architect and modular synthesist. Arushi brings out the vibrancy of Hindustani Classical music (the traditional music of North India) in modern electronic movements, by composing electronic music heavily inspired by her background as an Indian classical musician. Her art is contemporary hindustani classical, played with modular synthesizers, samplers and her voice. Her work has been featured on FactMag, MixMag, Magnetic Magazine, Bandcamp, XLR8R, VOGUE - to name a few.

Alissa is not only an inspiring musician, she is also the co-founder of the Synth Library, that was created in Spring 2016 in partnership with 4ms Company . It is a unique resource for hands-on access to eurorack modular synthesizers, modular synthesizers, dj gear, recording equipment and other electronic musical instruments for people of all experience levels. Listen to hear track “It’s A Parade” soon on our bandcamp page.

14/09/2020

Alissa Derubeis track is titled "it's a parade", because “we are all on a quick walk through this world, and we have to decide when it's time for a parade or a protest, or if we will just be dragged through time, and the difference between being a mean and bitter woman, and standing up for the rights of people.”
This piece was composed and performed entirely on eurorack modular synthesizers.
Samples were sourced from Cher, Audre Lorde, Angela Davis, Ursula Le Guin, Lily Greenham, Andrea Dworkin, Naomi Klein, and a march for justice.

13/09/2020

Alissa DeRubeis currently resides in Portland, Oregon. Alissa enjoys playing improvised music, making up experimental scores, layering voices, listening to lectures, and imagining a better future. While sample heavy, her music is composed and performed on eurorack modular synthesizers. currently resides in Portland, Oregon. Julia Bondar works carefully with her powerful and well thought out modular system and feels that everybody should relate to music in a very unique way. Her track „Dramatique Waters“ is the fourth track on our connected compilation, which will be out on October 2nd.

10/09/2020

Dramatique Waters is the fourth track on our upcoming compilation and has been composed by Julia Bondar, an electronic producer, singer, and songwriter.

Julia started her journey of musicianship doing demos for Endorphin.es eurorack modular synthesizers to help her partner Andreas Zhukovsky, founder and developer of the Endorphin.es brand, to promote and demonstrate the possibilities of the freshly engineered modules for the market. Shortly Julia becomes co-founder of the brand.

This served as the main trigger for Julia to develop her musical skills and knowledge about synthesis and enter the small but friendly modular synth scene consisting of artists that have grown exponentially over the recent years.

Julia works carefully on her live performances, to deliver quality structures and sounds from her powerful and well thought out modular system. During her performances, she conducts her instruments with great confidence to emulate a feeling of raw power all orchestrated in a small box right to the dance floor. ⬘

❀ The first track on our upcoming compilation “connected” is from the wonderful Hélène Vogelsinger, a french singer, composer and sound designer. In her modular synth project, she explores different places and connects with their energies to create unique and suspended moments. Her pieces are a combination of evolutive patterns, ambient textures, voices, orchestral instruments and recording fields. Her creative universe is poetic, spiritual and soul searching.
