Hypatia returns with a bold and gritty 5 song peak-time techno EP. “The Adversary” pens a new chapter in the landscape of American techno. This apocalyptic opus paints an empire in decline coupled with the rising threat of violence and oppression against the LGBT community. Since its inception, techno has been a reflection of the self in context to an an ever-changing society dominated by machines, technology, and capital. The acceptance of this reality and the vision forward, no matter how bleak, is fully expressed in this distorted corpus.
“The Adversary” begins the EP with a bowling rumble that descends through a crack in the foundations of the earth into a chorus of damned souls. A hardcore lead stabs like the gnashing of teeth in shredding variations.
“Escapement” is the mechanism of no return. Hypatia’s classical training propels this techno trance lead to spaces beyond the gravity and comfort of the tonic base. Her melodic engineering navigates like a well oiled transmission through massive harmonic gear shifts.
“Range Day” is the gloomy realization of necessary defense towards hopeless hostilities. A portrait of America’s underrepresented leftist gun culture, live samples and a shaky metallic lead represent the grave fundamental need for self preservation and hitting the mark.
“Rover” powers up Hypatia’s pension for post techno breaks in a spastic cavalcade of mechanical samples. Unrelenting shrill pads and grating squelch hooks search and destroy through the crumbling vehicle dependent infrastructure.
“Toluene” drips like a solvent suspending a new psychedelic alkaloid in a covert act of clandestine sound chemistry. The collapse of healthcare ushers in a new era of DIY shamanic visionaries healing the wounds of trauma with new chemical technologies.
Pembroke assembles a gathering of Philadelphia mystics for a seductive conjuring of
melodic house. Joining the heirophant are vocalists Giavacious and VVVIRTU whose
strange duet of haunting vocals weave melancholy shards of pale blue through the
luminiferous aether. Rōlter, technician and regular player at Pembroke Studios,
engineers a driving progressive breaks remix that builds into a swirling arabesque of
smoke filled squelches. Lancaster based DJ/producer, Major Vibes, invokes a Detroit
minimal funk remix with a bricklaying kick and twisted vocal chops. Rounding off the
release is Philly native VAXX-1 manifesting a big room techno epic with driving
percussion and tragically heroic synth chronicles.

Artist Profile: Quantum Spectres is a production project of Hypatia and Adrian Günter aka Rōlter that crystallized through the reunification of an old friendship. Their mutual love for progressive house and breaks in the halcyon days of the genre once again inspired the direction for their musical endeavors. They met in the early 2000s at the first zenith of the budding genres and spent many late summer nights in a small bedroom studio surrounded by Auralex, cannabis smoke, and LEDs, exploring the craft of dance music production.
Life, like musical trends, has a way of changing. Their circumstances separated as the dark prog craze dropped like a stone into the sea of commercialized electro house and fell victim to Beatport’s unfortunate genre categorization. This mourning of the unfinished song of dark progressive would shape the musical souls of Hypatia and Adrian in a similar fashion from 1,000 miles apart.
Life also has a way of interweaving loose ends, and the duo reunited after a decade of lost contact. While some old friends might catch up over beer and football on a Sunday afternoon, Adrian and Hypatia synced their DAWs and planned their vision for the future of progressive house. Their convergent tastes are contrasted only by their building methods. Hypatia brings an intuitive spiritual approach, while Adrian’s complex chain building adds the technical precision of his software engineering background. Artist Spotlight: Kalyptra Keres
See Young Lee, the man behind the mask, unveils his latest opus, the “Crystal Forest EP”. See Young is no stranger to the music scene. Growing up as a skateboarder & creative autodidact in Philadelphia during the 90's exposed him to Hip-Hop's golden age, Hardcore, Punk, Metal, Neo Soul, & the underground Jungle scene. In 1997 See Young was introduced to the music of Richard D. James, which subsequently initiated him into a magical dimension from which he would never return. Paul Oakenfold's "Tranceport" was released the following year imprinting a love for melodic dance music that continues to this day. He has amassed a choice skill set eloquently displayed in his eclectic DJ sets & pristine production. Such discipline emanates throughout his personal life with an affinity for the martial arts & the study of ancient mythology, symbology, & esoterics. Having toured North America (coast to coast LA to Chicago, wdup Canada!), the UK (Fabric, Glastonbury, Bestival, Sub Club, WHP, BBC Radio One), & Europe (Ibiza, Snowbombing) as a club DJ & member of Philadelphia based Hip-Hop group Plastic Little (DJ Siyoung), See Young continues to push his limits as an artist, craftsman & journeyer developing deep metaphors of the Soul’s manifestations, not merely limited to sonic articulations, but an entire metaphysical expression of life.
In his own words, See Young explains the concept behind the newest incarnation of his creative persona.
“Kalyptra means 'veil' in ancient Greek. Keres are the female death spirits in Greek mythology. My name can be interpreted as the "Death of the Veil".
The veil is simply a portal to inner reflection, just as a mirror is a portal to outer reflection. Music acts as the veil, bridging the conscious with the subconscious & unconscious as well as the temporal with the eternal. The ‘Death of the Veil’ is the moment of transference that occurs between these powerful energies.

to see beyond the myriad illusions, to pe*****te the fog of chaos, to illuminate the shadows, sometimes by temporarily becoming these very forces."
