Dear Bayelsans,

My good people of Bayelsa State, I feel happy and great to inform you that construction of many of our developmental projects are well on course.

On Friday and Saturday, I took time out with some top government functionaries to move round project sites and behold, what I saw gave me joy that we are"progressing and steadily" so, indeed.

At the site of the road linking several communities in Southern Ijaw from Yenagoa, we have taken the road from Ayama end through Aguobiri and now the contractor has covered a number of kilometres approaching Angiama. This is interesting.

The Glory Drive and Igbogene-AIT Outer Ring Road, the 2 roads expected to further open up Yenagoa are going very well too.

Then, at Igbedi road, I was convinced the contractor is doing a great job. The work is moving fast too.

I was also at the road linking Onopa to the new GRA, we are happy the contractor is on site working.

It was on Saturday that we visited the site of ongoing construction of the new media complex within the premises of Radio Bayelsa in Ekeki. That is massive and already going to the 3rd floor.

I feel very excited and happy that we will be providing a conducive environment to our state/owned media organisations, Radio Bayelsa, NDTV and New Waves. Yes, we care.

Let me assure our people that I am the chief supervisor to all the projects and shall from time to time visit the various sites.

Thanking you all for your continued support and understanding, your government of prosperity is committed to the completion of all the ongoing projects.

NCAA APPROVES COMMERCIAL FLIGHT OPERATIONS AT BAYELSA AIRPORT
..IT'S A DREAM COME TRUE - GOV DIRI

After months of expectation, the Bayelsa State-owned airport, on Saturday, finally got the nod of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to commence commercial flight operations.

The NCAA Director General, Dr. Nuhu Musa, presented the regulatory body's approval letter to an elated Governor Douye Diri in Government House, Yenagoa, after the team completed the mandatory inspection of the airport and its facilities.

Dr. Musa said the airport met all airspace standards and is one hundred per cent ready for daytime flight operations.

The governor's Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah quoted the NCAA DG as saying that the approval was sequel to the report of the agency’s inspection team, which prior to the visit had certified that out of 29 gaps, the airport was able to close 26.

He noted that other requirements were non-safety related and that work was already in progress to achieve night flight operations.

He said the agency had to limit flight operations to daytime as the runway lights were being installed, noting that once completed, full approval would be granted.

Musa commended the state government for the quality of work done at the airport and the capable personnel from the state that facilitated the issuing of the licence.

Responding, Governor Diri, who was full of joy, expressed appreciation to God for making the long-awaited day possible.

He said issuing of the operational licence was a winding journey that began from the administration of his immediate past predecessor to when he assumed duty over a year ago.

Senator Diri commended former Governor Seriake Dickson for his foresight in ensuring that the state had its own airport.

He noted that Senator Dickson started the project, which had been on the drawing board of past administrations and saw to its completion before handing over to him.

He said his administration was therefore determined to ensure flight operations commenced as he set the machinery in motion to get the NCAA nod.

His words: “This is a dream come true for our state and our people. I thank God Almighty because this journey had been a winding one from my immediate past predecessor and I have been in the saddle for over a year waiting for this licence. Today, God made it possible.

“I also thank my predecessor, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson. This airport had been on the drawing board but he took the bull by the horns by starting the airport and virtually completed it. May I on behalf of this government and the people of Bayelsa appreciate him.

“As I came on board, having seen what he did, my administration had to cross the T's and dot the I's. Having been briefed on certain requirements, I wasted no time in approving what was necessary to ensure that the airport was ready for use. Today, we have the approval for the airport to commence commercial flight operations.”

Diri also expressed appreciation to the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, the NCAA DG and officials for the approval and promised to do all it takes to get full flight operations.

He averred that all the necessary facilities and equipment were in place and would be installed in no distant time, especially all the runway lighting system.

He said the importance of an airport cannot be overemphasised, particularly in the South-South region that is the centre of oil and gas activities in the country.

"Bayelsa State is a major contributor to the oil and gas business in Nigeria. Bayelsa is the centre not only of oil and gas but also other economic activities within the South-South and the South-East.

“So, the Bayelsa airport is critical not only to Bayelsans but indeed the people of the South-South, South-East and by extension the nearby countries. We are at the border with the Gulf of Guinea,” he said.

His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa State today visited Amanyanabo of Nembe Kingdom, His Eminence King Edmund Daukoru.

Gov. Diri was primarily in Nembe city to pay a condolence visit to his Special Adviser on Investments, Dr. Jonathan Robinson Obuebite, over the death of his father, Late Chief Robinson Baratuaipre Obuebite-Aneri.

Governor Diri, requested the monarch to ensure sustenance of the peace in Nembe to attract development opportunities.

"We are here to pay homage and let you know we are in Nembe for this condolence visit. We are here also to request that the peace we are enjoying in Nembe will continue to reign.

I have said it over and again that no place can develop without peace. We need to exhume love. Let me appreciate you and other leaders of Nembe for ensuring that peace returns to Nembe", Gov. Diri said.

The Governor later visited the family house of the deceased, the Dede Group of Houses and residence of Dr. Jonathan Obuebite.

BAN ON THE USE OF MOTORCYCLES IN YENAGOA CITY

It has come to the Notice of Bayelsa State Government that motorcycles are still operating in the Yenagoa Capital City.
Criminal activities are now being carried out by individuals using motorcycles.

Riders and intending ones should be reminded that, there exist a Law prohibiting the use of motorcycles within the State Capital, Yenagoa;-

BAYELSA STATE MOTORCYCLE OPERATIONS (PROHIBITION) LAW, 2012.

It is important to stress here that, the Law is still very much in existence and will continue to be enforced.

Government will not take it lightly with anyone who violates the Law and No one including the Security Agencies are exempted in the Ban on the use of motorcycles in the State Capital.

Please be warned that defaulters will be brought to face the full arm of the Law.

SOUTHERN IJAW LEADERS Laud GOVERNOR DIRI FOR ROAD PROJECT

Leaders of Constituency Two in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State have expressed gratitude to Governor Douye Diri for the ongoing Yenagoa-Oporoma road project.

The Governor Diri administration has undertaken the project from where the previous government of Senator Seriake Dickson stopped.

Speaking in Government House, Yenagoa, when they paid a courtesy visit to the governor, leader of the House Assembly and member representing Southern Ijaw Constituency Two, Hon. Monday Obolo Bubou, stated that the visit was to appreciate him for what they described as the bold step to complete the Yenagoa-Oporoma road.

Obolo said the singular action of the governor has demonstrated his love for the people of the constituency and Southern Ijaw at large, stressing that posterity would be kind to him and his administration.

Obolo assured the governor that the people of the constituency would work with him to ensure his administration succeeds.

Also speaking, Prof. Francis Sikoki restated the appreciation of the people as the road project had been on the drawing board for over 60 years.

He described the road as very crucial to people of the local government area and the state at large given its economic significance, stressing that they would always be grateful to the governor's Prosperity Administration.

Sikoki noted that the governor has faithfully been fulfilling his electioneering promises, which he said included ensuring that no section of the state was marginalised.

He said for the first time in the history of the state, Southern Ijaw had five cabinet members in addition to other top positions, including the Secretary to the State Government.

Responding, Governor Diri restated his commitment to developing the whole state, saying that was what he was elected to do.

He thanked the Southern Ijaw people for taking ownership of the Yenagoa-Oporoma road project and protecting it as against the practice where people in other areas stopped construction work due to selfish demands.

He expressed gratitude to them for appreciating his efforts, stressing that he was encouraged to do more for people of the area and the state at large.

"In Ijaw culture, we always show appreciation. Whether you came or not, you are the ones who asked me to do it. That road is for you; it is for us in the state. You are actually the owners.

"Let me however add that you have made history. I have not heard of any other local government area where the governor is performing his duties and the people still think it wise to come and say thank you.

"Under this government, we must break that jinx of Oporoma being a local government headquarters that is not accessible by road. Breaking that jinx means we must construct the bridge to Oporoma."

Diri assured that funds would not be a problem to complete the project given its importance not just to the people of SILGA but to the state at large.

He stressed the need for communities to avoid the temptation of signing Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMOUs) with companies without involving the state government, assuring that government exists to protect their interests and to make them prosper.
