Disappearance of Odetta Maambo
Odetta Maambo, a resident of Chongwe and former mobile money agent, has allegedly absconded with approximately K80,000 in float funds from over five mobile money agents.
Odetta Maambo, described as a beautiful, humble-looking, respectful and honest-looking baby-faced lady with soft lips and a fresh face, a Tonga lady, who acted like not Tonga for Tongas are only known of mabisi, Odetta requested float funds from multiple agents. In the days leading up to her disappearance, she asked for float from more than five people, with confirmed transactions totaling approximately K80,000. The agents, who had previously entrusted her with funds due to her seemingly reliable nature, expected her to provide hard cash in return, as was her practice as a mobile money agent.
However, Odetta's sudden disappearance has raised suspicions. Her agent line and personal line became unreachable, and attempts to contact her at her residence were met with an empty house, eerily reminiscent of the lyrics to West Life's song: "An empty house, an empty room, a hole inside my heart." The affected agents were left in shock, where other agents could only faint and re-fainting, kwenze (mutileni manzi) pour some water to regain conscious, (ati benze kufenta nakufentuluka in order to re-faint), the pain was too such that others entrusted her with over K23,000 and had previously found her to be faithful and reliable during their months-long association.
The circumstances surrounding Odetta's disappearance are unclear. It is possible that she may have been scammed by individuals who promised to multiply her funds but instead absconded with the money, leaving her with no option but to flee. Furthermore, she's sometimes seen online on Facebook.
The disappearance of Odetta Maambo with mobile money float funds has caused significant financial distress to the affected agents. A thorough investigation is necessary to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and to prevent similar incidents in the future.
