This episode goes out with a huge congratulations to all who finished the Boston Marathon just over a week ago. And with that said, I’m thrilled to have Shana Miller, creator of Stiletto Running, back to chat with me about her Boston Marathon experience. Shana had run the Boston Marathon two times prior to this year’s, but this was the first time she ran it as a qualifier. And though a bought with COVID in January put a wrench in her training, she was going to make it to that start line come hell or high water. In today’s episode I speak with Denny Krahe, run coach and host of the podcast DizRuns Radio (DizRuns.com HQ). Denny, I think like a lot of runners I’ve spoken to, kind of fell into running – or in his case, stumbled through a Disney marathon in 2012 incredibly under-trained swearing he would never do that again. Spoiler alert: He did find his way back to running and has made it his full-time job. Denny’s first marathon story is one of my favorites because of its honesty and relatability so I won’t spoil it for anyone, you’ll just have to listen at the following link or wherever you listen to podcasts.

ICYMI: New episode dropped with , pediatric oncology nurse and marathoner. Caroline Moyer and I talk about her long-standing relationship with running that took a brief hiatus as she recovered from a terrible bike accident. But she’s working her way up to get back on that proverbial horse and is training for her first Iron Man this September.

Check it out at the following link ( https://soniaerita.wixsite.com/runningonoptimism/podcast/episode/40ec420a/25-caroline-moyer-or-recovery-after-a-bike-accident ) and let me know what you think 👇!

In today’s episode, Chris Heimerman, host of the podcast 40,000 Steps Radio shares with us his deeply personal journey to sobriety. Chris is an incredible advocate and resource for those struggling with addiction. He and I really dive into a lot in this conversation and what running meant for him before and after deciding it was time for him to seek help in battling alcoholism.

In this week's episode, I talk with Jeffrey James Binney ultramarathoner, comedian and actor whose documentary film "Once is Enough" chronicles his journey to his first 100-mile race which also happens to be one of the most difficult, the Leadville Trail 100. There is a spoiler in the show so you may want to watch the movie and then come back to this episode, or not, but either way "Once is Enough" is a must-watch for anyone, period. It is inspiring and heartfelt. Jeffrey is absolutely genuine and dare I say, the kind of optimist that draws me in.

I’m super grateful for the opportunity to reinvite two guests to chat with me. Powerlifter and endurance runner Jess of Everwild Performance, marathoner and registered dietitian nutritionist Jen Scott, and I share a well-rounded conversation on nutrition and strength and their place in running and training. It was a treat to get to pick their brains at the time time for a bit on why embracing nutrition and lifting is important to long life of running, which I don’t know about you, but is definitely part of my plan to keep doing this thing I love for as long as my body allows. Listen at the link below, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Take a listen to today’s conversation with Nita Sweeney, ultramarathoner and award-winning wellness author of the running and mental health memoir, Depression Hates a Moving Target: How Running with My Dog Brought Me Back from the Brink. Nita’s memoir personally helped me change my mindset to stay on course with my own marathon training to find my own way to complete those daunting 26.2 miles. Today we get to talk about her running journey, mindfulness, and her new book to be released this summer on making any movement meditation. Ginny certainly has a nose for good books 😉 And I’m working on getting the first episode of Running on Optimism with out This Thursday!

I read Depression Hates a Moving Target by Nita Sweeney about a year ago, but I’ve drawn on this book many times for nuggets of inspiration and wisdom. So I’m excited to share with all of you my conversation with Nita, so don’t forget to check it out wherever you listen to podcasts this Thursday, Feb. 3.

Sonia Rita's first marathon was a big one: New York.

But her most endearing memory of race weekend may actually have happened the day before at the finish line of the kid's race.

Happy New Year to all! I'm not big on resolutions, but along the lines of optimism: This is your time to achieve those goals you've been putting on the back burner. And/or maybe it's time to consider throwing out the goals you THOUGHT you should have but aren't really for you, and feel good in knowing that's ok too.

Feeling like the future’s looking bright 😎😉
2021 was a lot of things but for the purpose of this post, I’ll say I’m proud to have had the courage to start Running on Optimism this year when so many times I doubted myself and whether I could even get strangers interested in talking to me! And so im thankful to the friends I had willing to share their story and time with me, and for all the new friends who answered my random intro DM to chat. You’ve all made my day when we talk, and week when I put out your story and feel like we’ve put some goodness out into the world! And a special thank you to for always encouraging me and believing me every single time I don’t.

Running is good for the sole 👟 indeed! Obsessed with my new top 💜 that I wore for a quick run today.

No new episode this week, but next Wednesday I will share my conversation with .kimpossible , founder of where we dive into representation in the running community and the importance of groups like Latinas Running.

If you have questions for any of the guests I’ve had this past year you can also pass them along and I will work to get them answered! Yes or no? If yes, I’ll post a comment box in my stories for your questions, you can comment below ⬇️ or send an email to [email protected]. I need enough questions to make an episode so don’t be shy!

An last, if you’re looking to revamp your running gear for the new year, don’t forget to check out Stiletto Running and use the code OPTIMISM for 25% off!

Today I have the absolute honor to share my conversation with Yulady Saluti, second place finisher in the women's division of the Atlantic City Half Marathon fighting through chronic pain with running. Yulady is a breast cancer survivor and person with an ostomy, but mostly she’s an inspiration to those seeking representation in running while reaching incredible running goals.
You can listen to episode 20 with Yulady at the link below or wherever you listen to podcasts.

Your is here! Check out 8-year-old Izzy, who we call our Izzy Warrior Princess, during the New York Road Runners (NYRR) 1-mile Run with Champions race in Central Park on Nov. 5. Izzy was diagnosed with a spinal cord tumor when she was 12 months old, and as many of you who've been listening from the start, she is my inspiration for running, and well, for Running on Optimism. Listen to her share her experience during the race on episode 17 wherever you listen to podcasts.

Check out my conversation with Amanda Brooks, run coach, creator of RunToTheFinish, and author of the book Run to the Finish: The Everyday Runner’s Guide to Avoiding Injury, Ignoring the Clock and Loving the Run. It was Amanda’s out of the box "Couch to Marathon" plan that helped me return from a stress fracture in May and complete my first marathon this past November, so I was so excited to pick her brain on running and of course share her story on when she decided that Run to the Finish was the direction she would take her running. Find her on IG, FB, Twitter and at site: runtothefinish.com.
