Did you know? Community members will have a hand in deciding a mystery conductor at a special Messiah Sing-in on December 14 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Northport Village.

The conductor, selected by friends and neighbors, will make a special appearance during Handel's “Hallelujah” chorus. So vote for your favorite Northport icon, someone who represents the best of the community, someone who deserves to be honored as the most famous chorus ever written is sung at Trinity. To vote, email [email protected]. Deadline for submissions is Friday, October 31.

This just in… La Porta Ristorante owner Rob Simmons is branching out and opening just around the corner from his current location a traditional pizzeria focusing on takeout and delivery. Think large pies, garlic knots, pinwheels and yes, pizza by the slice.

Pamela Dayton, who will lead the parade, represents a deep connection to Northport-East Northport’s musical legacy. She is the daughter of the late Robert W. Krueger, founder of the Northport High School Marching Band and a driving force behind the school’s renowned music program. “Having Pamela Dayton as our first Grand Marshal makes this year’s parade especially meaningful,” said Robert Dennis, principal of Northport High School. “The marching band has always been at the heart of our school spirit, and Ms. Dayton’s connection to that history makes her the perfect person to lead this milestone moment.”

Pamela Dayton has been named Northport High School’s first-ever homecoming parade grand marshal, the school announced today.

The Northport Village election is set for March 2026, with three open seats on the ballot: one for mayor and two for trustee, each carrying a four-year term. The seats currently held by Mayor Donna Koch, Deputy Mayor Meghan Dolan and Trustee Joseph Sabia will all be decided in the race.

Although the election is months away, several candidates have already announced their intentions. Other potential candidates have time to enter the race; petitions to run are due in early February.

Announcing their candidacy so far are Mayor Donna Koch, who hopes to retain her seat, as well as Trustees Joe Sabia and Dave Weber, Jr., who will challenge Koch for mayor. Northport resident Monica Zenyuh has also announced her intentions to run for trustee.

I found myself home later that night telling my 9-year-old son, who loves rock and roll, about Randy Jackson and Zebra. The following day, on a walk downtown, my husband and I happened upon a record sale at a Woodbine Avenue home, an up-the-stairs front-lawn stand run by a teacher, artist and musician named John. We had a lovely conversation and I brought a few records (KISS, Steve Miller Band, Crabby Appleton) home. That weekend, my son and I took a trip to John’s together.

As we neared the end of the alphabetized records, my son said, “Look mom, the guy from La Porta!” He had spotted a Zebra album...
