: In a sprawling settlement of mud brick huts in western Afghanistan housing people displaced by drought and war, a woman is fighting to save her daughter.

Aziz Gul’s husband sold the 10-year-old girl into marriage without telling his wife, taking a down-payment so he could feed his family of five children. Without that money, he told her, they would all starve. He had to sacrifice one to save the rest.

A Jumma garment worker arrested by army and Mog Party in Kaptai
By Hill Voice -December 22, 2021

Hill Voice, 22 December 2021, Rangamati: It has been alleged that a Jumma garments worker has been arrested by the army and Mog Party members putting an arm with the arrestee from Raikhali Union in Kaptai Upazila of Rangamati District.

The detainee was identified as Anumong Marma (38). He is son of Chingsamong Marma of Jagannachari Para (Panchhari) of Ward No. 1 of Raikhali Union in Kaptai upazila.

According to local sources, on Monday (December 19) at 4:30 am, 15 army personnel led by Subedar Md. Quddus (56E Bengal Regiment) along with Awami League and army-backed Mog Party’s two terrorists led by its third-in-command Uthowai Ching Marma (Sabuj) conducted the patrolling operation.

During the operation, army and the Mog Party members surrounded the house of Anumong Marma in the dark of night. Upon entering the house, members of the army and the Mog Party ransacked household items and verbally abused Anumong Marma’s wife and children. It is learnt that Anumang Marma was later arrested and taken to the camp where he was severely beaten.

The next day, around noon on Tuesday (December 20), the army handed Anumong Marma over to the Chandraghona police station putting a country-made gun with the arrestee.

According to local sources, Anumong Marma was once an active member of the Parbatya Chattagram Juba Samiti (Chittagong Hill Tracts Youth Association). He is currently inactive. He was working as a laborer in a garment factory in Chittagong city for a year.

He came home because of his wife’s illness. At that time, he was apprehended by the army and terrorist members of the Mog Party. It is learnt that there was no case in his name in the police station.
