Still riding high on all the spooky vibes I harvested from last weekend's Halloween bash! ๐
You can now listen to my mix on SoundCloud to relive our trip to the lake of the lost. ๐ฃ๐ถ๐ป
Huge shouts out to all the artists who played, as well as the staff, bartenders, photographers, and promoters who made this night a success! Thank you for fulfilling a dream booking of mine, and for going ALL OUT on ambiance. 10/10 would spook again. ๐
โจ๐โจ..Story Time...
For those who know me well, it's no surprise that Halloween is my favorite holiday. So to say this was a dream booking is only a slight understatement. ๐ค๐ My initial forray into house music was heavily influenced by Dirtybird, so I have looked up to both Sacha Robotti and Christian Martin for quite some time. As someone who spins both house and drum & bass, seeing these two rep both genres on the same bill, at my favorite Seattle venue, with a KILLER local lineup was some serious cosmic alignment! โจ
The Martin Brothers' drum & bass mixes are what pulled me head-over-heels into the world of breakbeats and inspired me to begin tinkering with sounds outside the bounds of 4 on the floor. Both Justin and Christian's Twitch streams were a huge source of musical exploration and refuge from real-world struggles for me during the pandemic. I wouldn't have half the d&b library I do today without their influence. Christian's set last weekend had me in perma-bass face mode, and I haven't moved my body like that in a long time. ๐น
If you've read this far, I'll let you in on a little secret... My DJ monaker was inspired by one of my favorite Sacha Robotti tracks by the same name, and serves as a little nod to the lasting impression his music has had on me over the years. It's been a wild ride witnessing his sound evolve from Dirtybird to Slothacid, and now under his Third Culture alias in collaboration with Sian. As always, it was a pleasure seeing him throw down gnarly beats last weekend that went bump in the night. ๐ ๐
Eternally grateful for little moments like these.
Thanks for coming to my TED Talk. Stay spooky, y'all. ๐ฆ๐
