TENACITY 💯 Last month, Nick and I hosted ETHERNETWORK for Cincinnati-area creatives. It was a great honor to be joined by so many friends, old and new. Inspiration comes in many forms. Sometimes isolation. Sometimes togetherness. This was the latter. I left feeling more motivated than ever to triple down on every project in my life. I sincerely hope everyone who attended feels the same way. More photos and videos to come.

Everyday (literally) I see beautiful talented people struggling with self-doubt directly related to likes, views, plays or whatever vanity metric they’ve chosen to define their worth.

⚠️ 🛑 STOP IT 🛑 ⚠️

Creating something is valuable in it’s own right. The process is the power.

When you bow down to vanity metrics you surrender the power to a little number on a screen.

It can ruin the thing you enjoy the most. It crushes dreams and makes you want to give up.

TAKE THE POWER BACK 💪
Ignore those numbers and create with your heart. Don’t let likes ruin your life.

The goal should be to get your music into peoples’ ears and grow your following so you can start climbing the ladder of success. When you’re independent that means you have to use your limited resources to their full advantage. You have to be far more strategic and tactful than major artists that can afford to deploy multiple millions of dollars on marketing to cast the widest net.

This year has been full of new things. Maybe more than any other year in my life. My favorite part has been starting the I Get It podcast with Nick. We had no idea about podcasting and had to throw ourselves in the water in order to learn how to swim.

I truly appreciate the work that people go through in order to deliver quality podcasts every week. Some do it multiple times a week or even every day! Shout out to everyone that inspired us to keep going with this project and everyone that continues to tune in to the new episodes every week. We want to keep improving the experience for you. If there’s one thing we hope you take away it’s that you should never be afraid of speaking your truth. Tell your story. No matter what.

Today while cleaning out my garage I stumbled upon my first real film camera. Back in high school we learned how to shoot and develop black and white photos. Then I carried the same camera on into college before I moved away from photography.

It reminds me of my first ever camera as a little kid. This blue and yellow plastic toy camera that used real film. Being a naive young boy, I tended to pull open the back and exposed all of the film 😂

Any chance I could get my hands on those old kodak disposable point-and-shoot cameras I would quickly fill the film roll and beg my parents to take me up to Walgreens to have them developed. 📸

My brother and I quickly commandeered the family camcorder as soon as we figured out how to use it and filled countless tapes (yes they used tapes back then 👴🏻) with short movies and skits. It seemed like we were constantly out shooting or editing on the family computer with the free Windows Movie Maker app.

It was when I picked up music that I slowly lost interest in film making. This year though has had a funny way of bringing our old hobbies out of retirement and I’m excited to hop back behind the camera and create more visually. Anything and everything.

Many people (myself included) frequently fall into the thinking trap that if things aren’t complicated then they aren’t interesting.

We subject ourselves to FOMO, envy, and overly critical self examination in a fruitless search to spice up our lives. Yet all we get in the end is further anxiety and insecurity.

I believe that’s why we’re seeing the reemergence of minimalism and minimalistic design. We’ve overwhelmed ourselves and our overworked minds hunger for something that isn’t over stimulating.

Apple knew this years ago with their flat featureless white branding. Simplicity is not laziness. On the contrary. It is a BOLD choice!

If you are feeling wound tight, frazzled, and short of breath; give simplicity a try and see if clarity doesn’t follow with it. I think you’ll be surprised.

I know feet pics are not typically in my algorithm. What about yours? 🦶 After a hectic week - hell, it’s been a hectic week - I get to enjoy a moment of tranquility. Yet it’s only a moment. Like a single deep breath in a marathon, it’s here and it’s gone. But in this moment, let’s pretend time can stand still and tomorrow is a sequel that may never come. One life - summed up in a single day. If that were the case, it’s been my greatest pleasure to have shared it with you. Cheers friends, and goodnight 🥂

This year has been a wild ride for everybody. For me, it meant losing my last remaining grandmother, putting my businesses on hold, and now moving out of the house I’ve known since childhood.

Sometimes change comes FAST and hits HARD. While we can always manage to survive, to adapt to new conditions; the mental part of these happenings takes a lot longer to mentally process. Not like the healing of a scar but rather like the recovery of a sore muscle - making it stronger as a result.

We will be stronger. We shall endure. I love you, friends. Have a good night.

Hey guys, unfortunately I will have to suspend the MornHub live streams for the time being. The music copyright claims continue to be a big problem and the time slot of 11am is not going to work out consistently in the near future.

I will be working on a solution to all of the things holding the show back and in the mean time I will still be releasing videos on YouTube and my DMs are still open for any questions and conversations.

Thanks to everybody that has been a part of our little community. We’ll figure out a way to come together again soon.

Today is my first show back with since quarantine locked us down in March. It feels like forever. This is picture is a little older than that, back to a simpler time. No matter where the world goes from here music will always be a part of it. If you’re a musician feeling down or hopeless with our current situation, just know there will always be a place for you. Keep creating, keep innovating.
