You don’t need to believe in the supernatural to still see the world as miraculous.
They say that like it’s an actual argument. It’s just been drilled into so many people’s heads that faith is necessary and any concrete assurance would ruin that, which would be…bad? Somehow?
In what other relationship do we operate like this? My kids certainly don’t need to take my existence on faith.

Farewell to Dan Dennett, one of my intellectual heroes. Just heard that he passed away today. His ideas and ways of thinking were highly influential on me in my deconversion journey. He will be greatly missed.

This is exactly one of my main contentions with religion: God apparently can’t be bothered to sort out our misconceptions. Instead, he relies on imperfect humans to offer their perspectives, making it completely indistinguishable from “people just making up stuff.”

A lot of atheists say that they only have a problem with religion when it interferes in the public square, particularly politics. But it’s s**t like this that’s done within the confines of their own spaces and homes that I still have a MASSIVE problem with.

When you think about your own beliefs, a certain area of your brain is active. When you think about someone else’s beliefs, another area is active. But when you think about God’s beliefs, the same area is active as when you think about your own.

So frustrating when apologists try to have it both ways. God is “so obvious and apparent and provable” when you need him to be, but also “beyond reality and our perception and what do you mean you want proof?” Whatever suits the occasion.
It’s almost like it’s made up and can be wherever you want it to be.

That’s the fun part about having a Bible that doesn’t have A singular picture of God. You can pick and choose between all the various, sometimes contradicting, representations of him (or just make s**t up that isn’t even in there like that “being itself” nonsense) to suit whatever argument you’re trying to make! Completely ! It’s fool-proof!

Don’t bulls**t me. But if that is your honest answer, doesn’t that bother you? How are you supposed to share the gospel with someone if you can’t give any assurances?
Fantastic points in this video (link in comments) about how religion tries to get kids to immediately distrust anything outside of their presupposed beliefs. It’s like if you ingrain certain ideas into a mind before it’s capable of critical thought, it will have a hard time actually figuring out if it’s true or not.
And if your beliefs are so right and correct, then why fear them going outside of your teachings to find truth? If your faith is so in line with reality, then what are you really afraid of?
