It has been my pleasure to work with Brides and Grooms, families and companies on both coasts, first in San Diego and the Fresno California area and then in my home town of Pensacola. Now I am back in California's Central Valley and ready to help you take your event to the next level. If there is one thing I am sure of when it comes to weddings, it is that what the Bride and Groom need is someone
who is professional and personable who can take their vision for their ceremony and reception and make it a reality. By custom writing every wedding ceremony I perform for each specific couple, and by creating a customized playlist of the music they love, I ensure that every aspect of their big day is exactly what they dreamed of and hoped to achieve. As an officiant, I will work with you to create a unique ceremony that goes beyond the standard "I do" "I do." I am an English teacher, a poet, and a spoken word artist with decades of experience crafting words and speaking in front of crowds. When I create a ceremony for you, you can be sure it will be personal, poetic, and spoken with clarity and sincerity. I will meet with you, talk about what you want in a ceremony, ask questions that help me to discover who you are as a couple and to find the elements of your relationship that make it unique. With all those things in mind, I write you a draft of your ceremony which I will email to you for your approval. A current client, upon seeing their draft, had this to say: "I almost cried just reading it and imagining everything happening! I appreciate you writing all of this and thank you so much!"
Here's a letter I recieved from a recent Bride regarding my officiant services:

Our guest were amazed to discover we had only met you once. They felt the words were personal and truly reflected us. Thank you for sharing our special day and making us feel so comfortable with you. I would also like to thank you for helping to calm and ease Kyle. When I found out how nervous he was and how sick he had been from it all morning I was shocked. But, he told me how you helped him a great deal and after talking with you he just felt calm. We truly feel you were who was meant to perform our ceremony and we could not be more pleased. As a DJ, when we meet, I will walk you through a timeline for receptions that has worked for my clients for years. As we talk, I will change/add/delete elements of that timeline to fit the ideas you have for your reception. I will make suggestions, giving you the opportunity to choose the music for those special moments (eg: grand entrance, first dance, bouquet, and garter toss) so that you and your guests will be able to feel your personal touch in every event. In addition, I will be your on-the-spot coordinator, working with the caterers, servers, photographer, videographer, and all other vendors to make sure that everyone knows what is happening and when, and ensuring that everyone and everything are where they need to be so that your event runs smoothly. I will also ask questions to find out about your taste in music and that of your guests and put together a playlist for your cocktail, dinner, and dance time that will keep you and your guests happy and having fun all night. What a great weekend up in the mountains at China Peak Mountain Resort ! We were amongst family, so that made it even more special!
I had the honor of performing Emily and Garrett's wedding, and the day was absolutely perfect for it!
It got cold early, so the dance floor was not too crowded, but everyone had fun, and we kept it up at the fire pit even after the reception AND closing down the bar!
I love being able to perform both services for my clients and family! It's always fun to see/hear guests reactions when they realize I am doing both!

When you email the Bride a draft of their ceremony and get this reply by text a few minutes later...
I am a poet and an English teacher, and I love custom-writing ceremonies for my clients! It's gratifying when they react like this to the words I write to celebrate their relationship!

Every wedding is different.
I have seen/heard DJs say it.
I have said it.
I have never seen it so clearly illustrated than in the past two weekends.
Last Saturday night, I worked with a great couple. They asked for, and took, a lot of advice on the planning. We followed my timeline and everything went smoothly.
The groom is a karaoke nut, so we even planned a little "show" in the middle of the reception because he said "His family and friends would not know it was HIS reception" if he didn't sing! It was awesome! I brought my 55SH mic for him to use.
The dance floor was slow to start, but then I found the right mix for them and they had a blast. They went all-in for the fun, line-dance stuff and then stayed out for a steady mix of pop/dance stuff and a healthy dose of Vicente Fernandez for the parents.
The night ended with the groom saying to me, literally, "You are the best wedding DJ I have ever seen!" (And a tip!)
Last night, I had another super fun couple. They had a coordinator from the venue and had their timeline already set for me to follow.
These two met at a Lane 8 show (EDM). They have spent their entire relationship going to concerts and festivals, dressing up, painting up, neon-ing up, and going wild. The groom even proposed in the middle of an Above and Beyond set.
After the first dance and traditional stuff was blown through quickly, the rest of the night became a private festival for the Bride and Groom; a 1.5 hour set of straight power, nothing under 128 BPM for the entire night.
They loved it! They had these ENORMOUS Japanese-style fans that they all took on the dance floor, and they would snap them open to the beat of the clap/click track! It was so LOUD!
The night ended with the Groom, obviously a huge DJ fanatic, telling me, "That was an amazing set! I will definitely be recommending you!" (And a tip!)
Every wedding is different.
I have seen/heard DJs say it.
I have said it.
Don't you want to hire a DJ who is FLEXIBLE and ready to help you create the day that YOU want for yourselves and your guests? I have been that DJ for 25 years, and I am still at it!

Loved seeing this this morning in my email...
I started DJing in 1994. I have seen more reviews of my services than I could ever remember, but I remember this fact...Never...not once...have I gotten less than 5 stars!

More to the point: Wouldn't you RATHER have a DJ at your event that brings TWENTY-FIVE years of experience, STILL loves what they do, and still CONSISTENTLY goes over/above/beyond expectations for their clients?

Had a great time tonight with Francois and Melissa and their families and friends! It was a beautiful afternoon/night and The Boathouse at River Islands was a great venue! The staff was very accommodating and on point all night! Thanks to Marcus for all his help! Thanks also to my wife, Amber, for taking care of the ceremony music; flawlessly, I might add, while I officiated.

Last night was so amazing!
I don't often drive that far for a wedding gig, but then I don't often get to DJ for a friend and former teaching colleague, so exceptions are made.
Kelsey and Tim are simply two of the coolest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting, and I was not at all surprised to find that their families and friends were some of the most fun, patient, and appreciative guests I have experienced as well.
The evening was nearly flawless, and those things that had to be adjusted on the fly were unnoticeable to any of the guests. This was not just my doing. It was the staff from CaterMarin, the venue manager from The Outdoor Art Club, and especially the photographers (I will add their names later...I did not get a card). Everyone worked well together and everything happened just the way Kelsey and Tim had planned with me in our meeting.
The toasts were hilarious! I am not kidding when I say that the Brother of the Groom got away with saying some things that I never would have thought possible...LOL...
Everyone danced! Even the 86 year old Grandpa hit the floor when I played "Moon River" for him!
No two weddings are the same, but when you get that magical combination of great vendors, venue, clients, and guests, it sure makes the job easy...and so much fun!

Sit down at Starbucks to prep paperwork and wait for a client, and I hear a voice say, "Are you Jay? You're Jay right? You DJ'd our wedding!
We chatted for a few minutes, and they were off with their adorable little daughter (wonder if the music helped with that...LOL).
It's fun being a part of people's special moments!
