"What if we fail to stop the erosion of cities by automobiles? What if we are prevented from catalyzing workable and vital cities because the practical steps needed to do so are in conflict with the practical steps demanded by erosion? [...] In that case we Americans will hardly need to ponder a mystery that has troubles men for millennia: What is the purpose of life? For us, the answer will be clear, established and for all practical purposes indisputable: The purpose of life is to produce and consume automobiles." —Jane Jacobs in The Death and Life of Great American Cities (1961)

The fact that we don't think twice about taking the car to the parking lot to the escalator to the treadmill in order to walk is one reason why we now have the first generation of Americans expected to live shorter lives than their parents

Congestion Pricing NOW!

Congestion pricing is a program to charge drivers entering a certain congested part of cities during rush hour, saving drivers time, reducing traffic congestion, alleviating noise and pollution, and making streets safer for everyone. And yes it also generates revenue that can be used to improve transit (NYC's is earmarked for the MTA projects). And Governor Kathy Hochul, who was once a supporter, indefinitely "delayed" it less than a month before its implementation.

We cannot afford to congest our streets with the least efficient mode of transport any longer. We need congestion pricing now.

Dense, walkable cities not only save nature, but make for better cities. Why aren't we building this way anymore?

Let's save Earth by building denser, walkable cities that also make us happier, healthier, and more connected.

Why do state DOT's keep building highways? Because they are also in charge of predicting the demand for highways.

If you give the power to estimate demand for roads to road engineers, of course they will say the demand is going to go up. Let's follow what the real trend says. America already has too much highways.
