Moonton Matchmaking..Is it just me?

As a solo player I've noticed that ML has a habit of throwing you in random matches where your team rank is mixed but the enemy has multiple players that are ranked higher than your team.
Can someone explain to me how this qualifies as " Fair Matchmaking"?
