INTERRUPTION OF WATER SUPPLY AT UMLAZI AND CHATSWORTH DUE TO EMERGENCY REPAIRS

Residents who are supplied through the Southern Aqueduct pipeline are informed of an interruption of water supply from this evening, 25 June.

A Municipal team is undertaking emergency repairs on the section of the Southern Aqueduct pipeline following the discovery of a leak in the vicinity of Alpine Drive in Shallcross.

The pipeline has been isolated to undertake emergency repairs.
During this process, there will be no inflow to all storage reservoirs until the repairs have been completed later.

Residents are urged to use water sparingly to avoid depletion of reservoirs.

The City will deploy tankers to affected areas.

Affected areas:
• Chatsworth 1 reservoir: Bayview, Bulbul, Croftdene,Havenside,Kharwastan,Silverglen,Umhlatuzana,Westcliff and Woodhurst.

• Chatsworth 2 reservoir: Bayview,Chatsworth Town, Centre,Kharwastan,Silverglen,Umhlatuzana,Westcliff and Woodhurst.

• Chatsworth 3 reservoir: Arena Park,Chatsworth Town Centre,Croftdene,Montford,Silverglen andWestcliff.

• Westcliff reservoir: Bayview,Havenside,Woodlands and Yellowwood Park.

• Umlazi 1 & 1A reservoir: Umlazi A, B, C, D, E, F, V, S, T Sections.

NEW DATE FOR PLANNED SHUTDOWN OF NORTHERN AQUEDUCT PIPELINE

As part of continuous efforts to restore water supply to areas that have been experiencing prolonged water outages in the north, eThekwini Municipality technical teams will on Tuesday, 27 February at 8pm shut down the Northern Aqueduct Pipeline to install new valves.

The shutdown of this pipeline, that carries water from the Durban Heights Treatment Works to areas in the north, will result in interruption of water supply while work is being undertaken.

This is part of ongoing work that the Municipality has undertaken on the Northern Aqueduct to ensure efficiency of water flow and to increase pressure within the pipeline.

A larger part of the work has been completed. This includes repairing leaks and replacement of air valves in other sections of the pipeline. However, the outstanding valves require modification to fit into the network which also requires a shut down.

This work is expected to be completed on Wednesday, 28 February at 5pm.

The reservoirs will be open during peak period in the morning and afternoon on Wednesday, 28 February. However, water supply will depend on consumption patterns. We appeal to residents to use water sparingly.

In addition, water tankers will be deployed to affected areas.

Affected areas include:
• Phoenix 1 Lower-Level Reservoir: Mount Edgecombe Hospital, Mount Edgecombe Estate, Broadlands, Southgate, Stonebridge, and Clayfield.

• Phoenix 1 Higher Level Reservoir: Bishop Gate Road, Pillargate Place, Landsgate Place, Rise Hate Place, and Rest Gate Road.

• Phoenix 2 Higher Level and Lower-Level Reservoirs: Sunford, Hannaford, Phoenix Highway, Longcroft, Longbury, Plaza, Southberry, Eastbury, Groove End, Sastri Park, Caneside, Canehaven, Woodview, and the Grove End area.

INTERRUPTION OF WATER SUPPLY FROM SOUTH COAST AUGMENTATION SYSTEM DUE TO STORM DAMAGE OF INFRASTRUCTURE

Residents are informed of the interruption of water supply to areas supplied through the South Coast Augmentation (SCA) Pipeline System.

This is due to damage of a section of the 1200mm diameter SCA steel water gravity trunk main after the heavy rains this past weekend.

The affected trunk main is near the Umbilo River and to the east of the sports fields and Vusi Mzimela Road.

The City’s technical teams are busy with an assessment of the damage in order to undertake the necessary repairs.

This trunk main supplies bulk water from Woodlands 3 and 4 Reservoirs to the SCA Pumpstation. This in turn supplies Amanzimtoti and the entire south, down to Scottburgh in the Ugu District Municipality.

In the interim, residents will be supplied with water tankers.

Affected areas include:

The City will tomorrow, 25 October shut the new SCA Booster Pumpstation from 9am to complete pump and valve maintenance on the pumping line.
