With the rise of cafes on almost every block, the real challenge for any cafe is how to stand out in a crowded market.

When the owners of Apaw Flavor Cafe shared their vision for their business and what makes them stand out— we knew that we wanted the brand identity to showcase exactly that.

Imagine a menu with Salted Caramel Egg Yolk, Iced Ameri-cola, or Orange Garlic Butter Shrimp! It's like a Disneyland for all foodies and coffee lovers ready to explore an overflowing fusion of different flavors with overflowing taste.

So, when designing for their rebrand, we knew the best approach was to design a brand that brings out its playful, creative, dynamic, and sophisticated yet 𝘬𝘢𝘭𝘰𝘨 personality.

The visit to the dentist isn't usually something we look forward to. We tend to put off cleanings and check-ups until the pain kicks in, and by then, it's often too late!

Happy Tooth wants to break that exactly that stigma and make the visit to the dentist something the whole family (especially the kids!) will look forward to.

(I'm not a ghost, I promise 🙈) I know I've been silent most of the year here on my socials, and that's because I was so busy with client work that I barely had the time to work on the business. But just before the year ended, God answered one of my prayers for the studio: to add people to the team to help me with work, giving me more time to focus on the business... and well, show up here even more. 🙋🏻‍♀️

If there's a word to sum up this year, it would be 𝗘𝗡𝗗𝗨𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘. 💪🏻 This year, I've learned to endure amidst my countless episodes of imposter syndrome, the months when we lived from paycheck to paycheck, my deteriorating mental state from working at home and alone, and my painful back problem that hindered me from sitting for a long time.

But despite all that, I can't end the year not thanking God for the year that taught me that 𝙂𝙤𝙙'𝙨 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙨𝙚𝙨 𝙧𝙚𝙦𝙪𝙞𝙧𝙚 𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙪𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚. ✨

Our recap in numbers may not be as big compared to other businesses— and initially, I was so intimidated to do this when everyone else are posting theirs with much bigger numbers, but I also realized that it's through these numbers that I see God's faithfulness in the studio. It may not be a big number, but I remember the days when we were starting. We started from zero, yet here we are, and we're just getting started. ❤️

“Who’s your target market?”
“Everyone!” some of my clients would say.

Ofc it would be nice to have EVERYONE hire you, right? But the truth is, that’s just not how it works. 🙈

Try telling a story that appeals to everyone, you’ll end with an audience dozing off or leaving the room.

Different audience segments have their own struggles, aspirations, and values. And the key is to identify your ideal target audience and take time to get to know them. And by knowing them, I mean getting to really know them and know them wholly. ⚫️

What are their struggles?
What ignites them?
What annoys them? What do they hate?
What are things that they strongly passionate for?
Why do they do what they do?

By going deep and going beyond the surface, you tap into an emotional connection that strongly bonds your brand and your audience.

You will end up with brand heralds who will not only love your brand but tell the whole world about it. 🤍

How often have you chosen a brand over another for the packaging alone?

Or, how many times have you bought something that you don’t necessarily need but just got reeled in because of how pretty the packaging is?

🙋🏻‍♀️ 🙋🏻‍♀️ Way too many times.

On buying my skincare products, will it look good on my bathroom shelf?
On candles, will it fit the aesthetic of my shelves?
On coffee— I may have tried a couple of coffees that don’t exactly have the best packaging but are just accessible, but only selected few make the cut on the Insta 🙈

Packaging can make or break any product. No matter how good the story or the values of your brand is, if the design of your packaging is poor, you lose the opportunity to create a strong first impression.

Up until now I still the rush of fear every time...

I post on social media about what I do (Especially when I show my face on IG Reels *cringe cringe* 🙈)
I get on a client call
I tell a client about my rates
I send a project proposal
I get on a strategy call
I launch with a client

I do it all the time, yet it still feels like I’m jumping off a cliff ᴇᴠᴇʀʏ ᴛɪᴍᴇ. Yet once my toes touch the waters, descend to the deep, and swim back up the surface, I look back up to the cliff and think to myself, “I wouldn’t mind doing it all over again.” 🥰

❗️ LONG AND PERSONAL HONEST POST AHEAD 😶‍🌫️

Admittedly, I was starting to fall into the deceit that these were the things I needed to attain success.

✨ "𝘓𝘦𝘵'𝘴 𝘴𝘬𝘪𝘱 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵" *inserts success story here.*

In this day and age, we only see the good part. People rarely talk about the betweens and the lows.

And as more and more of these Reels show up on our feed, we start to believe that we can skip to the good part, and waiting is unnecessary.

However, yesterday, before I started to entirely fall into this deceitful pit, God led me to this sermon by Pastor Micheal Todd.

"There are things in your life that the only cost is 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲."

AAHH Patience. In this day and age of fast food, same-day deliveries, high-speed internet, and fast loans, patience is starting to seem like a thing of the past. But it's not. It will always be necessary for the process, and without it, the joy for the result will fleet just as fast as the process took.

An 11-day journey turned to a 40-year journey for the Israelites simply because they had no patience to wait on God.

I have many dreams and goals for my business and my family, and sometimes the temptation is to hustle harder, which also means spending less time with my family. Compromising my sleep and health. Having less time for God.

But now I am reminded of this: I am exactly where He needs me to be and the pace I'm running on is exactly where I need to be. If there's anything I need to work on the hardest next year, it's to wait on God patiently and faithfully. 🙏🏻

OK SO, let's define these two terms first.

What is a 𝗕𝗨𝗦𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗦𝗦? It's is merely the transaction between you and the buyer, while a 𝗕𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗗— well, it is the 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙩 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙨𝙤𝙪𝙡 of your business that your audience resonates with.

Thing is, every business has the potential to be a brand, but not every business will realize its boundless potential.

Think of the biggest brands today. 👇🏻

Think of 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗲. More than its technical specs, Apple is loved by people because of the emotional and intimate connection it has built with its audience. Although its competitors are clearly more technically advanced, it has built a loyal following that supports them (myself included! 🙈).

Think of 𝗟𝗼𝘂𝗶𝘀 𝗩𝘂𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗼𝗻. Despite the hefty price tag, people dream and rave about getting their hands on their products in the name of the prestige, identity, and refinement that their brand brings.

In the eyes of business, Apple is just a technology company, and Louis Vuitton is just a luxury company— but in the eyes of branding, they are so much more. 𝗦𝗢 𝗠𝗨𝗖𝗛 𝗠𝗢𝗥𝗘 that it is exactly what makes them the 𝗕𝗜𝗚 brands they are today.

The big question now is: 𝗗𝗢𝗘𝗦 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗕𝗨𝗦𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗦𝗦 𝗛𝗔𝗩𝗘 𝗔 𝗕𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗗?

And just like that... We now have a 1 year old! As cliche as it sounds, "Days are long, but the years are short." has never felt more real.

Around this time last year, I was on maternity leave from my full-time work while side-hustling on 's website. Today, I am a full-time Mom and a whatever-time's-left business owner of this branding studio. 😅

Motherhood sure entails a lot of sacrifices, but nothing is more valuable than seeing Noah's smiles and getting to witness his milestones.

As working Moms, we can only do so much, but if there's one thing I need to constantly remind myself this season, it's that I just need to trust God's pacing. It may be slow, but I am never on the losing side. 🙏🏻

For Nestology Studio, not only did we want to create an aesthetic website, we needed it to be functional too. Sam is a photographer and used to do most of her booking process manually. However, as her business grows, she knew it was about time to streamline and automate the process. The website needed to have a booking and payment gateway system and automated emails.
