Simple assault

RANSHAW — Patrolman Seth Hart charged James Moore, 41, of 528 Webster St., Ranshaw, with simple assault and harassment relating to an Oct. 10 disturbance at Brady Fire Co.

Police reported Moore is accused of assaulting Dale Wilk Jr., causing a head laceration and multiple scrapes and bruises on his back, hands and knees.

Police said the assault occurred shortly after 9 p.m.

Disorderly conduct

SHAMOKIN — Bradley M. Farrow, 27, of 108 S. Diamond St., Shamokin, was charged by Patrolman Ethan Roughton with disorderly conduct, simple assault and harassment.

Police reported Farrow is accused of punching Brenda Keller in the ribs in the 100 block of South Diamond Street shortly before 3 p.m. Oct. 17.

DUI

SHAMOKIN — Patrolman Benjamin Busko charged Anthony T. Polek, 70, of 51 S. Shamokin St., Shamokin, with three counts of driving under the influence of alcohol and one count of careless driving relating to a two-vehicle accident Sept. 24 at Market and Arch streets.

Police reported Polek had a blood alcohol content of 0.181%.

Criminal trespass

SHAMOKIN — Patrick D. Dowling Jr., 27, of Shamokin, who is homeless, was charged by Patrolman Benjamin Busko with criminal trespass, disorderly conduct and possessing drug paraphernalia involving an incident at 412 W. Chestnut St. at 1:17 a.m. Wednesday.

Dowling was arraigned at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday by Magisterial District Judge William Zalinski and committed to Northumberland County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail.

Burglary

SHAMOKIN — Patrolman Derek Jenkins charged Justin Dobson, 40, of 11589 State Route 61, Kulpmont, with felonies of burglary and flight to avoid apprehension, and a misdemeanor of disorderly conduct.

Police reported Dobson, who was wanted by state parole agents, is accused of unlawfully entering a basement at 309 S. Fifth St. on Friday morning and banging on the door after fleeing from authorities who initially spotted him walking in the area of Mulberry and Sixth streets.

Dobson was arraigned Wednesday morning by Magisterial District Judge William Zalinski and released on $20,000 unsecured bail.

Fi****ms violation

SHAMOKIN — Earl R. Huling, 52, of 1230 Center St., Apt. C, Tharptown, was charged by Patrolman Benjamin Busko with a felony of making a false statement on a form while attempting to purchase a firearm and misdemeanor of unsworn falsification to authorities.

Police said Huling was a fugitive from justice when he attempted to buy a firearm at Postage Plus on South Market Street on Feb. 28. Police said Huling had an active warrant from Sussex County Family Court in Delaware for failing to appear for a hearing.

Huling was arraigned Wednesday morning by Magisterial District Judge William Zalinski and released on $10,000 unsecured bail.

Garbage fire

SHAMOKIN — City firefighters responded to a garbage fire at the rear of 108 S. Shamokin St. at about 6:15 p.m. Monday.

Cpl. Alexis Temple, who also responded to the scene with Patrolman Ethan Roughton, said a neighbor grabbed a garden hose to bring the fire under control before firefighters arrived at the scene.

Heavy smoke was spotted at the scene as a result of the minor fire and no injuries were reported.

The scene was cleared at 6:50 p.m.

Ceiling collapse

KULPMONT — Kulpmont firefighters were summoned to a drop ceiling collapse at an apartment building at 640 Chestnut St. at 6:24 p.m. Monday that resulted in no injuries.

Borough firefighters were assisted at the scene by ladder truck personnel from Mount Carmel.

The scene was cleared in about 30 minutes.

COAL TOWNSHIP — Police here are investigating the theft of copper from Verizon utility lines in the village of Burnside.

Sentencing

SUNBURY — The following defendant was sentenced in Northumberland County Court of Common Pleas:

Wilfredo Ortiz, 45, of Coal Township, 21 to 42 months in state prison, $100 fine plus costs for possessing a weapon while attempting to escape.

Retail theft

COAL TOWNSHIP — David Dehoutaint Jr., 48, of 24 S. Owl St., Coal Township, was charged by Patrolman Nathan Foust with retail theft for allegedly stealing a pair of tin snips from Jones Hardware and Home Center along Route 61 on Sept. 11.

Furnishing drug-free urine

SHAMOKIN — Brandon Mark Garancheski, 30, of 634 W. Pine St., Shamokin, was charged by Patrolman Wesley Jordan with furnishing drug-free urine Sept. 12 at Shamokin Police Station.

Garancheski also was charged by Patrolman Travis Minnig with possessing drug paraphernalia Sept. 11 on Terrace Avenue.

SHAMOKIN — Patrolman Travis Minnig charged Janelle M. Sassani, 38, of 332 S. Seventh St., Shamokin, with possessing methamphetamine, possessing drug paraphernalia and driving under suspension relating to a traffic stop at 1:54 a.m. Friday at South Sixth and West Mulberry streets.

Recklessly endangering

SHAMOKIN TOWNSHIP — Trooper Austin Bennett, of state police at Stonington, charged April L. Hayes, 28, of 58 N. Sixth St., Sunbury, with recklessly endangering another person, reckless driving, careless driving, failing to drive in a single lane, driving at an unsafe speed and passing a vehicle in a “no passing” zone in connection with a Dec. 16 accident on Route 61 in Shamokin Township.

COAL TOWNSHIP — George J. Frick Jr., 30, of 917 Pleasantview St., Trevorton, was charged by Trooper Lucas Roshannon, of state police at Stonington, with three counts of driving under the influence, careless driving and failing to drive in a single lane relating to an Aug. 14 traffic stop on Route 61 in Coal Township.

SHAMOKIN — Patrolwoman Mariah Vetovich charged Eric Perry, 58, of 201 S. Market St., Shamokin, with possessing drug paraphernalia Sept. 9 at 77 Raspberry Hill.
