MOUNT CARMEL — William J. Velez-Molina, 25, of 12 N. Cherry St., Shamokin, was charged by Patrolman James Hornberger Jr. with terroristic threats, simple assault, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, public drunkenness, harassment, failing to obey traffic-control devices, careless driving, reckless driving and driving at an unsafe speed involving a disturbance early Saturday morning at Turkey Hill Minit Market, 130 E. Fifth St.
Velez-Molina is accused of repeatedly opening his car door and striking the front passenger door of Peyton Galitski’s vehicle shortly before 3 a.m. When confronted by Tyler Williams about hitting Galitski’s vehicle, Velez-Molina exited his car and punched Williams five or six times in the face and threw him to the ground, police said. During the fight, Velez-Molina claimed that he had a pistol and threatened Williams with it, police said.
Police said neither Williams nor Galitski saw a firearm during the incident.
Williams and Galitski reported Velez-Molina then got back in his car and drove away.
Patrolman David Bucher said he later located a loaded 9mm handgun in the center console of the vehicle driven by Velez-Molina.
On-call Magisterial District Judge Rachel Wiest-Benner, of Sunbury, arraigned Velez-Molina on Saturday and committed him to Northumberland County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
