We're extremely proud to be representing our part of the musical community at UEA, along with LiveWire and Music society, tonight on BBC radio norfolk's The Social! Huge thanks to the brilliant artists involved, from us namely: Harry Lofthouse, Sophie Frear, Xiang Su, Duy Nguyen and Helen Li ❤️🔥🎹🎧

It's feature time!
Our artist for this week is Helen li and we're featuring her track “GC - AC Collection”. Helen is a singer who has been doing a lot of song covers, which you can check out here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyfAMp1iet2_OzY_SCBA8Iw
Helen has also been getting into music production lately and her progress is astonishing.
Sometimes life can get really busy and tiring, and her track “GC - AC Collection” is a perfect reminder for you not to take life too seriously. Its beautiful melody, played on the adorable sound of chimes, is so relaxing that you'll surely forget about your problems for a while.
You can check out her track here: https://soundcloud.app.goo.gl/pCPBCPmM7iwfHpNW6
Thanks!

It's taken us a lot longer than expected, but we're now proud to kickstart MRPS' publicity programme! Each week we want to share some of the music made by producers at UEA, of any genre and of any background. We hope you enjoy these weekly features, and if you make music and would like to get some free publicity/critical insight, please get in touch 🧡🧡
Our artist this week is Jaime Duarte, and we're featuring his track 'LZ U'.
Jaime is a classic sampling producer, and this track is a great example of how retro material can be used to make an awesome bop that also doesn't detract from the feel/atmosphere of the original sample.
Jaime sampled sections from 'I Don't Want to Lose You' by Carolyn Franklin, a vocal driven pop hit from 1969. The defining part of this remix is the chopping of this main vocal sample, which is sequenced to create a fresh chord progression and rhythm alternative from the original...Jaime describes using a stereo-extraction technique to retrieve unaccompanied piano from parts of the original song, which you can then hear behind the vocals in this remix - he notes this kind of work often degrades the quality of what is extracted, but luckily not to an uncomfortable extent by any means. This vintage vibe is well supported by the choice of drums: a bitcrushy kit which plays heavy breaks underneath this vocal chopping; all of which makes for a really successful and enjoyable sampling remix.
Give it a listen here! https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fsoundcloud.app.goo.gl%2FDnv6%3Ffbclid%3DIwAR2zYhhMW69ffpLRI-VbgSd61rbkebh4p8QinHBAl-sRjrFUtOCV6ci95cE&h=AT3MVHRhSjzoZf2zZkanawLE-fRTXNOWf0AqjIQopj8BcAfRlbAVeF7viCYZh1It7m-pjAetIqBj5QPLK4diu2unGWCGaqB1SJ87wmlRzl_3YKrRmM9ku3d-WfYylymnhAPv7jb8UqU

We've had a great couple of weeks in MRPS, exploring cool techniques, hearing each other's music and arguing about quantising applications 🎧😱😱 ...
But the show is only just beginning!
Monday the 2nd nov will be session 4 of our MRPsoc Mondays workshops, and this time we'll be looking at EQ, one of the most recognisable and important functions in sound production.
If you're not a member but want to try, you're welcome to join on monday to see for yourself!

About MRPS
Welcome!!! Are you into EDM? Are you a singer-songwriter who is wanting to record a song? Do you rap, and want to design backing tracks to freestyle over? MRPS is UEA’s brand new society of producing musicians that covers all these bases and so much more -- we are super passionate about helping you create your music this year!
What we can offer you: regular workshops, where we meet in the CP lab and create together. Every session we host will have a focus, where, led by one of our experienced committee members, we’ll cover an element of music production from the ground up (such as EQ, compression etc) or we’ll provide useful tutorials on Garageband, the software we use. -- A note about software -- if you’re reading this as someone who already has experience in music prod. and uses a different DAW other than Garageband or Logic Pro, we apologise, but fear not! All DAWs are supported in workshops because the theory remains the same whatever you use.
What may be most useful to you is that we offer access to the edit suites in the music building, and can show you how to use the facilities. Once you’ve joined us, you can enrol on the media centre’s safety course and book rooms for free, otherwise only available for HUM students. The media centre’s facilities include: over a dozen soundproofed edit suites each with an iMac, a recording interface and a pair of monitor speaker (software Garageband), and also the recording studio, which most notably is equipped with Logic Pro X, Garageband’s professional counterpart. The studio is packed with other juicy features such as the several high quality dynamic mics mounted to the desk, or the multi channel recording interface which allows for more intense recording sessions.
Last year MRPS also got involved in collaborative work with the other music societies: most prominently organising the recording of Music society’s new Jazz album, and also recording Live Music society’s fantastic open mic sessions. We hope to do even more of the same kind of events this year, so like our page/become a member if you want to know what’s going on!
At minimum, we’re a society with a shared love of crafting music, and to support you in taking your work further. Last year was so successful and so much fun; we highly recommend you join up and get involved! Thanks for reading!
